Husband up to no good? Caught out by fitbit

Imnotbilly · 17/06/2016 08:24

Morning. My dh wore my fitbit last night to walk the dog, so he had something to tell the time by. He was out for an hour.

When he got back I looked at the stats on my phone and it had tracked a 15 minute walk and about 3-4k steps. I asked him about it and he couldn't explain the discrepancy, except that maybe it didn't pick up his steps because he was holding the lead.

This morning I took the dog out and my fitbit tracked a 29 minute walk and just over 3k steps. I held the lead on my fitbit hand.

I don't know what to think, so confused. Does the fitbit lie? AIBU to think dh is the one who's lying?

If he walks quicker than you then that would explain it.

ToriaPumpkin · 17/06/2016 08:25

My smartband often says I've been driving for five hours and only picks up a few thousand steps when I've actually been on my feet and walking around for five hours at work. I put it down to holding trays while I'm walking so my arms aren't moving.

FunkyChunk · 17/06/2016 08:26

If that was my DP I would suspect he stopped in the pub rather than anything sinister. Mind you, he would tell me afterwards!
Do you have any reason not to trust him?

branofthemist · 17/06/2016 08:27

Is there a back story because you sound very controlling z

Yes holding a dog lead can effec steps.

A 15 min walk would produce about 2k -3k steps.

He produced more steps that you. What you do you think he is up to?
And why do you feel the need to check up and tests his theory?

TheNotoriousPMT · 17/06/2016 08:28

Fitness trackers are not famed for their accuracy, and if this is the sole basis of your suspicions then YABVU.

Any thing else going on?

branofthemist · 17/06/2016 08:28

Sorry a 15 minute walk for me would produce those steps.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 17/06/2016 08:28

Holding the dog lead sometimes messes with my Fitbit. So does pushing a pram. Depends on how you walk/swing your arms I guess.
Seems like a wild leap to make unless you already have some suspicions?

Lucked · 17/06/2016 08:30

Up to no good? Really? Or sitting on a bench reading about the football on his phone?

That is some leap to make from a gadget.

TheDuchyOfGrandFenwick · 17/06/2016 08:31

Perhaps it went a bit faulty,...or he had a wee rest on a bench.

branofthemist · 17/06/2016 08:32

Or sitting on a bench reading about the football on his phone?

But that doesn't fit. If he had walked for 29 minutes he would have covered 6k-8k which is more than the op logged on her walk

Only1scoop · 17/06/2016 08:33

What are you thinking Op

Why did too check?

branofthemist · 17/06/2016 08:34

Sorry I misread the thread. He was gone for an hour but it only logged 15 minutes.

I'll go get more coffee. Blush

Yes Fitbit can mis log things

blueturtle6 · 17/06/2016 08:35

He would have less steps than you for same distance as men generally have longer strides, my fitbit only register walk after hr increases. It also tells me I have been on a bike ride. Don't think this is anything sinister in isolation

ivykaty44 · 17/06/2016 08:36

What do you think happened?

Why the same amount of steps in half the time?

Do you walk twice as slow as your oh?

Florrieboo · 17/06/2016 08:38

Well the fitbit doesn't know it's not you wearing it, so it is set for your weight and height and stride, so the fact that someone else wears it will skew the results.

heron98 · 17/06/2016 08:39

Is this the first conclusion you jump to? That he's cheating?

I suggest there are some pretty major trust issues in your marriage.

Flacidunicorn · 17/06/2016 08:40

If he is having an affair then its a bit shit isn't it?
Gone for an hour, 15 mi items walking, that only leaves 45 minutes to do whatever with whomever. You'd have to take incredible time off, secure dog time, redress time, etc etc. Wouldn't leave very long to DTD.

Seems a massive and illogical conclusion to me. The logical conclusion is the Fitbit didn't log his steps for why ever reason. May e he walks really slowly on a field? I used to walk my dog to a field and itd take me an hour to get round simply because I walked at slug speed so the dog could play etc. Not to mention the 20 good still throwing balls and sticks.

NapQueen · 17/06/2016 08:40

I don't understand (1) why you would check up on him via his fit bit or (2) assume cheating.

Is there more? Or are you a jealous person.

StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2016 08:40

So he did more steps than you thought he should in the time? Surely thay means he walks quicker than you. I don't see how he could have stopped

StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2016 08:41

Oh sorry he was out for an hour. Op makes more sense now

Forthispostonly · 17/06/2016 08:41

I think the important part of the OP is that he was out for an hour and the fitbit only recorded 15 minutes

oliveoilandaubergine · 17/06/2016 08:42

The op said her husband was out for an hour and it tracked a 15 minute walk. Could be innocent op but i can understand why you may question it.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 17/06/2016 08:43

My friends fit bit it's often logging less than she has actually done. We have so many conversations about it.

And the other day her and her sister were wearing fur bits to the same venue they spent the whole day together, she logged about 60% more steos than her sister.

She often walks in to her local town and will wander around for hours sometimes her fit bit logs that as 50 minutes of activity sometimes it logs it as 20 or 2 lots of 30.

Could your husband have stopped to talk to another dog walker because it's my understanding that it had to be continuos activity and for a set amount of time before it logs it. So if your husband stopped to have a chat and then wasn't walking long enough after the chat for it to log then it would shorten the length of the walk time.

If your stride length is similar then you seem to have the similar amount of steps so it suggests that he walked the same steps as you but stopped

Imnotbilly · 17/06/2016 08:44

I never said cheating, just up to no good, that he's not telling me about. I checked it because I was just curious about the stats, I always check my own after a walk or whatever.

Some of these explanations make sense, so I'm going to forget all about it. Thanks all.

Oh the number of times my friends been out wandering for 3 hours and only logged 20 minutes of activity cos she's been bronzing shops and stop starting her activity is remarkable! And I know exactly how long she's been out and what she's been doing cos I've been with her
