WIBU to ban DH from touching the cake?

Germgirl · 15/06/2016 09:06

I mean look at it! I baked a coconut and raspberry jam cake yesterday. We had a small alive last night & then dh woke up at 2am peckish so I said to go down & get some more cake.
He reappeared with a plate but I was nearly asleep so didn't notice the state of it.
It appears he 'cut' a slice with either his fingers or a spoon!
My lovely cake! Mangled!
So, WIBU to not allow him to cut his own cake in future?
This is obviously lighthearted. Do I need to say that?

That might not work Anna. Dh told me he wasn't that keen on either coconut or jam but I went ahead and made it anyway because I'm a selfish git and I fancied it
And yet he's managed to force down 3 slices so far.

"And yet he's managed to force down 3 slices so far." Grin

My DH also doesn't like coconut but I bet exactly the same would happen!

Thanks for the recipe OP Flowers

LizKeen · 15/06/2016 15:27

I have it in the oven right now. Can't wait.

Told DH I was making it and he now apparently can eat coconut in something, just not on top. Hmm

Germgirl · 15/06/2016 15:57

That's exactly what my dh said Liz. Even though he always says he doesn't like coconut in curries, biscuits, or on top of things, apparently it's acceptable in cake.

Argh, my cunning plan foiled. I could put lots on top?

Lovewineandchocs · 15/06/2016 19:14

Thank you so much for this thread! We are having a cake day at work and I didn't know what to make! Definitely coconut and raspberry jam cake now Grin Cake

LizKeen · 15/06/2016 19:21

It is amazing. They are asking when I am making it again and we haven't even finished this one!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 15/06/2016 19:30

I don't have cake. :( :(

00100001 · 15/06/2016 20:58

look...look at the box!

WIBU to ban DH from touching the cake?
LBOCS2 · 15/06/2016 21:14

Yep. That's what my DH does too. To things like cereal boxes. It makes me SO ANGRY.

He has also been banned from the cling film forever and ever and ever.

Germgirl · 16/06/2016 07:14

Oh god, the cling film! Actually dh won't go near cling film, he just can't manage it. But the foil! We had a new box of foil, I found it yesterday, one end ripped off & the side opening bit still intact. So now I can't do the pushy-tab thing that keeps the foil in the box. It appears that opening the box properly was too hard so he just ripped one end off and slid the foil roll out.
The cake has gone. I had one more slice and he ate the rest, I might make another coconut cake today, a lemon one this time.

I'm glad it's nice Liz. Btw, the original recipe has the jam spread on top of the cake & then lots of coconut sprinkled on, I decided to put the jam inside because I couldn't bear the thought of the mess my dh would get into when trying to cut and eat a cake with jam all over the top.
That didn't work did it? He still mangled it.

As others have said. LTB.

DSis once baked a lovely round cake for Mother's Day, real work of art. She was sharing a flat with a bloke whose DD aged 3 visited at weekends. She went out the evening before Mother's Day and late at night received a text from flatmate saying "Hope you don't mind, DD was begging for cake so I gave her some." She was fuming enough, but when she got home she found he hadn't even taken a normal wedge-type slice, he'd cut a straight slab off one side so it was a D shape.

Our DM didn't mind, but the writing was definitely on the wall for flatmate. When the tenancy came up for renewal not long afterwards, DSis told flatmate she was out and, as he couldn't afford the rent on his own he had to move out also. And DSis was much happier with her new flat.

DH opens bags of frozen peas etc by ripping a hole in the middle of the top of the bag, instead of one side so it's easy to pour, clip etc.

And it's not even along the edge of he bag, it's usually at least 5cms below the edge, so pouring out stuff ends up with the bag pretending to be a hamster and filling up the corners which then promptly empty when you stand it back up.

Aaaarrrggghhh!!!!!

Germgirl · 16/06/2016 13:21

I have coconut & lemon cake this in the oven at the moment. DH has been informed that if he wants some he has to ask me to slice it for him Smile

I am sometimes a bit mean when it comes to home-made cakes and bread and things. I make it and slice it up into portions as soon as it's cooled.

It started with the bread, which I put through the food slicer, as DH some people, think it's acceptable to have a sandwich with an inch thick slice and a wonky slice. So, it got sliced my my slicer (good old Lakeland) and it lasted much longer. So I thought, sod it, I'm doing it to EVERYTHING. So all cake (not for display/others) gets baked, cooled and sliced.

Works a treat Grin

Germgirl · 16/06/2016 14:25

Excellent idea binary. I don't pre-slice because I don't want it going dry, but tbh it only hangs around for about a day so I think it'd be fine.

Bacofoil makes a cling film dispenser which works a treat. I bought one with hope mingled with anticipation, fortunately my faith in Bacofoil was justified. DH looked at my purchase with slight bafflement, as he doesn't have the terrible struggles that I do with cling film, but even he has said that it's marvellous.

But now I want cake. Sooooooooo bad Sad I shouldn't have looked long and hard at the cake pictures...

Sparklesilverglitter · 16/06/2016 14:46

I cut cake like your DH Blush

Sparklesilverglitter · 16/06/2016 14:47

I can't even cut bread properly always mean to ask the bakers to do it but always forget

FireTruckOhFireTruck · 16/06/2016 15:58

Looks lovely but you are definitely NBU to ban him from touching cake again!

00100001 · 17/06/2016 16:20

Doesn't go dry if its in a tub /or wrapped in clung film :)

FireTruckOhFireTruck · 17/06/2016 16:50

Cake doesn't hang around long enough to go dry at mine! Grin

countrybump · 22/06/2016 10:53

Thanks for this recipe - I made it at the weekend and it's delicious!
