To think this was a bit tactless of the teacher

The teacher in question referred to friends daughter (Year 4) as 'bonny'. I realise that there are areas of the country where this is just a compliment without any other connotations but here it essentially means 'fat.'

The friends DD was a few minutes late due to helping set up the assembly and upon entering had gone to sit with her friends and was stopped by the teacher who tried to steer her to the year 6s and when she politely explained she was in year 4 the teacher commented (in a whole school assembly where the children could all hear her) 'well, you are a very bonny girl for year 4, aren't you?'

Not the teachers finest hour, I don't think?

I liked to the other thread 5 posts in on page 1 but everyone just rehashed it anyway.

Why did the teacher not know that she was in Year 4? Every teacher normally knows which year group every child in the school is in. Is this an especially large school or was this teacher a supply teacher? Also, has your friend asked the teacher about what she said? She could always ask the teacher to clarify what she meant. I'm sure most teachers are willing to talk to parents and would be happy to explain. Surely this would help to clear things up?

Frangeslistic, why do u want to put this on Twitter and Facebook?

PerspicaciaTick · 17/06/2016 15:15

Frangeslistic - what a very peculiar conclusion to jump to, and why on earth would you want to share it all over socal media?

I don't think MNHQ have the time or energy to make up threads like this - a lot of topics get repeated because there are 4million MNers and very few of them will have read every other thread, some duplication is to be expected.

Why do some people insist that teachers are pure evil with hatred towards children? They chose to work with children because they like children and teachers are normally nice people, not evil villains! These posts make me laugh. I am yet to meet a demon headmaster or a Mrs Trunchball! What a stupid feed. glad most of the replies speak sense

Bath - really? You're fortunate then. Some are utter fuckers that make kids' lives hell and they wouldn't survive 5 mins outside the school environment. Some are lovely, inspiring and encouraging. Same as any other profession. You're more likely to read posts about the utter fuckers in AIBU.

This really isn't a Fat Baby competition.
