Beginning to get pissed off by all these predictive text/autocorrect mistakes

Buttock · 05/06/2016 12:06

Just opened about 4 different threads and auto correct/predictive text mistakes in the first few comments not making sense at all.

I'm not bothered by spelling/grammar mistakes because a majority of the time a sentence still makes sense if you've spelled something wrong. These new autocorrect and predictive text mistakes alter a whole sentence.

It's just ironic that something that's been invented to make typing easier and clearer makes it worse.
I also hate the hilarious (!) comments that follow an autocorrect error...or the obligatory "bloody autocorrect!"...just check before you post ffs.

I fail to see how that is any different to a small mistake in grammar such as yours.

Because many predictive text and autocorrect mistakes alter the meaning of the whole post.

Think this thread is just repeating itself now. Lets just let it die.

But so can grammar mistakes.

Why get upset about one, and not the other? Confused

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 06/06/2016 10:04

I think I'm guilty of not previewing.

Sorry, Bullock.

AllegraWho · 06/06/2016 12:59

I laughed out loud at this thread more than any other thread I read recently.

I did use to think that previewing and correcting should be easy enough to do though, until I started typing on my phone (when on a flare, laptop is too heavy and can't sit at desk).

It's then that I found that every time I spotted and corrected an autocorrect override, the stupid gremlins in the phone would sneakily change several more in the paragraph I thought was done and dusted.

And I'm too dumb to figure out how to turn it off.

Therefore, I just go with the flow now. Ultimately, my quacking in the void will be no greater unautocorrected than left to stand as is, and sometimes the autocorrect Monkeyspeare makes more sense than I do.

So YABU.

I leave you all with a bit of autocorrect Shakespeare:

Goldenberg lass and Gurley all MUST
Likely chimneys sweeter
Turning too dumb

Tisgrand · 06/06/2016 13:28

Yanbu. Does nobody read what they've written before they post? Just to make sure that they've said everything they wanted to say, if nothing else?

Mommawoo · 06/06/2016 13:57

Yabu

The funniest post I ever read on here was the lady who wrote an entire paragraph on how she took care of rescue dicks. Complete with details of how she fed and cared for them.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 06/06/2016 14:15

My phone often 'corrects' a whole sentence when it clearly doesn't need to.

Why are you so annoyed?! I presume you're not reading text books with strings of gobbledegook in them. The odd post here or there is nothing.

GarlicSteak · 06/06/2016 14:24

They mostly make me laugh, often very loudly.

But I know the kind of posts you mean, Buttock. Sometimes there are five lines of word salad, which don't even give you a context for guessing what the author meant. And then they don't re-post to explain!

Weird.

AllegraWho · 06/06/2016 15:18

Hahahaha rescue dicks. I just read one where someone kept their potatoes and opinions in string bags...

SoupDragon · 06/06/2016 15:19

Surely you could have envisaged how this thread would go?

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2016 15:22

I've told people to stay away from illegal frogs instead of drugs...

MissHooliesCardigan · 06/06/2016 15:32

You are Bing Crosby.

Namelessbabe · 06/06/2016 15:36

Get a life OP!

SoupDragon · 06/06/2016 16:26

Shouldn't that be "get a lift up!"?

UmbongoUnchained · 06/06/2016 16:35

Well thank GOD for context then so that most people with a few brain cells will still understand what the person is trying to say when a word slightly changes.

Wonker.

Who doesn't love a good old autocorrect? Grin
