Beginning to get pissed off by all these predictive text/autocorrect mistakes

Buttock · 05/06/2016 12:06

Just opened about 4 different threads and auto correct/predictive text mistakes in the first few comments not making sense at all.

I'm not bothered by spelling/grammar mistakes because a majority of the time a sentence still makes sense if you've spelled something wrong. These new autocorrect and predictive text mistakes alter a whole sentence.

It's just ironic that something that's been invented to make typing easier and clearer makes it worse.
I also hate the hilarious (!) comments that follow an autocorrect error...or the obligatory "bloody autocorrect!"...just check before you post ffs.

I still laugh when I remember the poster who complained non-feminists lacked critical honking skills Grin

PortiaCastis · 05/06/2016 12:39

My auto correct is wonkers it has a rind of its town

MrsJayy · 05/06/2016 12:40

Honking feminists Grin op see what you started with your own thread

MsBojangles · 05/06/2016 12:41

YANBU

It gets on my tots something ritten!

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 05/06/2016 12:42

As funny as these are, I agree with you

Autocorrect errors remind me of the phrase "more haste, less speed". The modern day equivalent of monkeys on typewriters producing Shakespeare would be riddled with autocorrect errors.

I tend to MN on my laptop though, so all spelling errors are my own.

NewLife4Me · 05/06/2016 12:44

As somebody who is far from perfect with several learning disabilities and low IQ I agree, there's no excuse. It's sheer laziness, probably from people who think they are intelligent Grin
YANBU. Thanks

exWifebeginsat40 · 05/06/2016 12:51

i don't know about unreasonable, but you might need to go outside for a bit.

Ameliablue · 05/06/2016 12:52

Thing is, my mouth autocorrects too, so predictive text really does mimic proper speech.

Buttock · 05/06/2016 15:59

Thank You AllMyBestFriends ANewLife and Diddl...some normal people who don't get caught up in this autocorrect shit.

My autocorrect app learns the words i use most often, which means it will predict swear words where none are intended!

Teresalosingtheirleaves · 05/06/2016 16:07

get thee t'library, it's proof read m'dear

Buttock · 05/06/2016 19:35

Yeah it's not hard to proof read is it? Just skim read and fix the mistakes. Don't leave it and then write another comment with "oh bloody autocorrect!"...don't blame autocorrect for your laziness.

OP posts:
Teresalosingtheirleaves · 05/06/2016 19:47

You need to get out more.
Woe betide you if you make an auto error !

EastMidsGPs · 05/06/2016 19:51

Guilty as charged Blush
My new phone really does have a mind of its own. It posts what it lumes likes and i am forever apologising in a later post

Personally i miss the days of quill pens and ink wells Wink

LiveLifeWithPassion · 05/06/2016 19:59

Most of my laughter is down to autocorrect. I love all the errors.

That's a bit sad, isn't it?

Tanith · 05/06/2016 20:57

Were it not for autocorrect, I would never have announced to my colleagues that I now had a bugger phone and 23 vaginas Smile

I often post something I didn't Nintendo.

glueandstick · 05/06/2016 21:35

I'll always check after I sent a text about 'those filthy Muslims' when I meant muslins.... Awkward.

00100001 · 05/06/2016 21:54

"Just skim read and fix the mistakes."

aahh, if only you had skim read and fixed a mistake in one of your posts. Grin

Muphry's Law in action?!

Buttock · 05/06/2016 22:05

You do indeed OLO, so live it without being lazy. Thanks.

binary in my first post I said I don't care about the odd spelling mistakes and grammatical errors; we're human, we make mistakes. So if I made a mistake then so what? You still understand what I wrote right? Autocorrect and predictive text mistakes are not human error. It's relying on a chunk of metal to write for you. And a lot of the time it substitutes completely wrong words.

My spelling is so awful at times that auto correct says 'replacement not found' and then I have to think about it, huff

PurpleDaisies · 05/06/2016 22:23

I love a good comedy autocorrect. I'd much rather see one of those than bad grammar. It's a chat forum, not an English exam. I think it's a little unrealistic to expect perfectly typed posts.

00100001 · 06/06/2016 05:57

Hardly anyone relies on the phone to write for you. They just make a mistaken and don't check properly before posting. I fail to see how that is any different to a small mistake in grammar such as yours.
