To want my money back after wasting it on a 2nd hand Maclaren?

A few days ago I bought a Maclaren buggy for £40 from a popular ad site. The harness straps at the back were only held up by Velcro so whe I put DD in and she leaned forward, the straps would become loose putting her life in danger. The woman that I bought the buggy from didn't show me this and I couldn't go back on the same day as I had to be somewhere. I feel like I've been sold a faulty item and feel like a fool. I'm pretty skint right now so I can't just go out and buy another buggy. I've texted her today but I've had no reply. Aibu to try and get my money back by turning up at her house?

You can try, but she may well tell you to get lost, especially if she has ignored your text. Unfortunately, these sites are a bit 'buyer beware' as stuff is bought as seen. You just have to hope that the seller is honest and trustworthy.

You can try but I doubt she'll give you it. Unfortunately this is the risk you take with these selling sites.

Putting her life in danger Hmm 5 point harnesses aren't that expensive to buy are they? Agree you likely won't get any joy from the seller as you viewed it before buying.

We have a maclaren, the harness threads through the plastic frame at the back. There are two velcro strips on the back of the seat where you attatch a newborn head hugger. Did the woman remove the fabric to wash it and not thread it back? Have a look by lifting the cover off and seeing if you can find the holes.

What Dizzy said. I don't know which model you have, but you can download the manuals here www.maclaren.us/Operating_Instructions they have illustrations of how the velcro threads through and attaches at the back.

I think 'putting her life at risk' is an over reaction. It was sold as seen, and as others have said I would check they've been put on right and if not just get a new harness.

This is the back of my buggy seat, you can see where the strap threads through. The velcro is for the headcushion thingy. Sorry if the picture's not clear.

I think it can easily be sorted. Follow the image in dizzy's post.

"Life at risk" is quite hysterical (but this in MN so understandable). If it can't be fixed then I suspect it can be easily and cheaply fixed. Very cheaply if you're handy with a needle and thred as opposed to replacements from MacLaren.

Life at risk? Holy hell! You looked at it when you collected it. Research caveat emptor

If you don't like it, a needle and a spool of thread to secure it shouldn't cost you more than 50p.

I figure you will spend more on the cotton wool you wrap your PFB in.

Contact maclaren directly, they will replace as I've had a similar issue and they informed me that all maclarens have a lifetime guarantee

Maclaren wont replace it. They'll tell you very nicely to stop being a tit and thread the straps through the holes provided 😁

Is it threaded correctly? My Maclearn has velco but it's for a buggy snuggle.

When I bought it off the woman she gave it to me with the straps attached to the Velcro. I've never had a maclaren but now the brakes aren't working. I may just have to sell the bloody thing myself and get a decent light weight. I'm put off buying a new Maclaren. It's the techno XT that I bought.

How are the brakes broken OP?

Our XT, whilst looking a little worse for wear, is in 100% functioning order after 7 years of abuse.

It sounds to me more like buyers remorse.

When I put the brakes on they don't stay on. I need to investigate what it is that's causing this but yep, maybe it is buyers remorse. Spending £40 on a buggy I expected more from.

We had a techno XT. It was a fantastic buggy. Had 5-6 years of use and looked very worn but still far sturdier than the quest based model I had also bought.

Yellow it was sold to me like that so I don't see why I can't sell it in the same condition that the woman sold it to me

Clean the breaks. Mine did this, was dirt causing the break not to engage.

Maclaren should pay me Wink
