Why is it so fucking slow? Why is there a 10 second delay after I press any button? Why does it not let me pause a catch up programme and come back to it later? Why do I have to start from the beginning? Why are the menus so ugly?

AIBU to want to go back to sky?

I have a non sleeping baby and have quite a short fuse at the moment and find myself shouting at the tv quite a lot.

I remember seeing TiVo on sex and the city and thinking it looked SO cool, now it's randomly recorded "lip sync battle" cos it thinks I might like it and I'm just offended to be honest.

Virgin broadband is fantastic where I live. I have no complaints at all; it's superfast, we all stream from different devices at the same time with no issues.

I don't use the TV service so can't comment. My sons do occasionally but we all tend to use Netflix, Amazon Prime or others via the firestick.

Been with Virgin for just under a year. The broadband is fine but I can't say I rate anything else.

We have the boxes all round the house and out of 3 2 have packed in within the same week. I am ringing them today and downgrading our service to the absolute min.

There catch up service is utter crap and is always temp unavalible.
The menus are so bloody slow.
The box is always clogged up with stuff it just records itself.

And they keep increasing the prices I'm upto over £150 a month.

Sky on the other hand were utter shite. They kept billing us for 2 subscriptions for over a year. They said one of our boxes was not online but we had the Internet line extended so it went to the first box then went round into the joining room. If the furthest box wasn't online I could understand but it was the one closet to the router.

We constantly had them back as the dish kept breaking and loosing signal. In 5 years we got through 4 boxes.

Hate sky with a passion Virgin come in second.

I've just bought kodi boxes for £65 and it has everything on it all the channels and anything you could ever want so I can ring Virgin today and tell them to shove there service

Well SoupDragon well for us it is, after a certain time of the day the Internet slows down and becomes pretty much unusable for a period.

According to the Virgin Media service checker 'it's fine' but perhaps it's because there are a lot of devices all trying to use the wifi at the same time (5 smartphones, 2 tablets, 2 laptops and 1 PS4)... The TV service is better though, apart from the random TiVo recordings!

MackerelOfFact · 06/06/2016 10:59

It's rubbish. I had it in my previous place as there was no Freeview reception, I just had the basic free channels plus TiVo and fibre optic broadband, for £45 a month.

There were somehow how fewer 'free' channels were actually on Freeview, the broadband was horrendous (much slower than normal non-cable broadband) and had terrible range and would drop out randomly, and it was just extortionate.

I now have Freeview, a Now TV box for the catch-up channels, which was £9.99 one-off with no subscription, and Sky broadband which is less than a fiver a month (but free for first 6 months). It's WAY better. The only thing I miss is not being able to pause the telly (but I can pause catch-up).

To make matters worse, when I tried to cancel Virgin because I was moving they apparently 'couldn't close my account without the new address.' I kicked up an almighty fuss as it has FUCK ALL to do with them where I'm moving to, and they clearly only wanted to know so they could relentlessly contact me to get me to sign up again.

My TiVo has started to play up something terrible. However prior to this I found sky is more laggy when hitting play while fast forwarding.

I have sky upstairs, Virgin to broadband and phone line downstairs.

MustBeThin · 07/06/2016 09:57

You can turn the suggested recordings off in settings, that way your box doesn't end up full of programmes you won't watch.

VM business broadband installations don't come with a landline. They are standalone.

I had one run in after BT finally (after a lot of 3rd degree grilling) admitted that not only could I not get in excess of 3Mb, but I would unlikely to in the next 5 years (which contradicts the leaflets they shove through the door every week).

Never had any problem with VM broadband or TV. However, TiVo is shite and only gets used as a dumb PVR.

Historically VM is a patchwork of previous suppliers NTL, Telewest, and others. The service you get depends on the underlying infrastructure. I can't speak for Telewest (my old supplier) but going back, you had "NT Hell" being mentioned a lot.

You mean they don't come with a telephone line

Honeyandfizz · 07/06/2016 10:25

Its absolutely terrible. We had it in for a year and then moved house and went straight back to Sky. It used to make me want to smash the box every time i used it!!

LurkingHusband · 07/06/2016 10:36

Quite right Blush. And it's blazingly fast. 100Mbs - which is better than our CEO can get at his house. Not bad for a Gordon-Brown certified "deprived area" Smile

Sallyingforth · 07/06/2016 11:10

I get a consistent 200Mb/s from VM. Ridiculous isn't it?
