To think that Classics should be renamed Shittics?

.....or Trollics?

I used to love a trawl through whilst waiting for an appointment or on a train etc.

Now they're all 900 posts of placemarking, trolls who think they're funny, or someone wondering why a squirrel is sitting in a tree before finally scaring it off with a hose.

I mean come ON.

Forums evolve and the 'oldies' here seem to continuously harangue and moan about the evolution.

Now THAT was funny.

There are some amazing threads in Classics, from the hilarious to the truly poignant. It's just lately I think the standard has really dropped and they shove any old troll crap in there.

And yes I'm aware I'm moaning.

Oh yes, EM's thread was genuinely moving. Auntie TantrumsnBalloons's weekend was so funny and well-written. And I love the anecdote type ones, like the spooky thread(s).

Maybe a year back, there was a marvellous thread for aspiring / trainee lawyers that has been consigned to the dustbin of history. It was bloody useful as well as fascinating!

I think they should have a place to preserve chat threads that are of some interest, but not clutter up Classics with it. Most of the good threads have been moved off the front page of classics now. A newbie wouldn't bother reading through to find the good stuff.

This has made me go and look for my favourite thread on classics. Tears of laughter rolling down my face. It is the DH doing the christmas shopping.

I agree though so of the more recent classics threads are totally unfunny.

Oooh one of threads I started under a previous name went into Classics a couple of years ago. My OP was in no way funny, but subsequent posts definitely were, especially HoneyDragon's picture contributions.

MN has completely lost sight of what 'classic' means. There's some boring and not at all funny shite in there now.

A few weeks ago I saw a thread where the SEVENTH post was 'oh this is hilarious, has to go into classics!'. It had seven posts!. It wasn't hilarious either.

What happens to chat threads? I bet no one physically deletes them so they must be languishing somewhere. I keep hoping Olympic horses will one day be retrieved and rightly take its place in Classics. It was a scream

Rather off-topic but I thought it was a little off and rather bad form that MN Towers started a "funny things your children have broken" thread themselves. Didn't that feel a little bit not the thing? Not the sort of thing that would have happened in the olden days?

I saw that and hope they don't make a habit of it. Maybe it's a response to all the troll threads, after all you've got to fill the site with something. Money Saving Expert started doing something similar a while ago and they look like hypothetical debates and I avoid them.

Also amazed that the squirrel thing went into classics. It was so obviously a deliberate attempt to be quirky and a bit daft. It was tedious.
