To wash my hair after going to the hairdressers

This isn't a TAAT honest.

I got my hair cut after work. The hairdresser washed, cut and styled it using heat spray, smoothing gunk and hair spray. It looks great.

I mentioned to DH that I'll need to wash it before bed. DH thinks it's daft to wash it as it has been washed and styled and would be still nice looking for tomorrow. I can't go to bed with product in my hair. It seems dirty.

Aibu? Am I weird? Do you wash your hair after going to the hairdresser?

I don't like "gunk" in my hair either Grin

My hair is thick and dry and apart from a hair oil I can't stand gel/mouse/styling spray in it.

Tbh I simply ask my hairdresser not to use products I don't like then I can keep my nice blow dry for as long as possible.

If they did use product in my hair I don't like then not only would I be cross I would absolutely wash it and not go back there again.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 20:31

Wtf is a silk hair bonnet?

Hmm
Tiggywinkler · 30/05/2016 20:32

I'm weird although I knew that loooong before this thread but I love the hair drying, the swooshiness, the fancy presentation of the back of my own head.

I also love the going home, washing it myself, and blow drying it the way I do it.

Hair dresser gets paid, I'm happy, I've had an hour with no kids climbing up my legs. Win win, product or not!

Must admit I'm quite agog at the silk hair bonnet Confused what's it gentle for? Don't quite understand sorry.

Yanbu if you want to wash it, wash it.

Personally i only wash my hair once or twice a week as its thick and wavy Afro Caribbean hair, I very rarely brush it aswell but I leave it as long as possible after going to the hairdressers as it looks lovely and I like the smell of the serum. I pay a lot for the blowdry and styling so I make the most of it.

Maybe be forceful if you don't want them to put product in it if you've asked before and don't listen?

Forty five quid!

DumbDailyMail · 30/05/2016 20:41

This is one where it's definitely 'just you' OP.

WRONG! I always wash my hair after going to the hairdressers. I hate 'products' and I don't want the little bits of cut hair going everywhere.

Sometimes I as for it to be washed after it's been cut at the hairdressers, they don't seem to mind.

Thankfulforeveryday · 30/05/2016 20:43

No way, if the hairdresser drys it it last for days without washing it!! I love having it done.

PalcumTowder · 30/05/2016 20:43

God yes, I always wash my hair after the hairdressers. For this reason I always leave the salon with it wet and unstyled after a cut/colour but they always sneak in some product so I have to rewash. Hate the feeling of gunk in my hair.

Sherlocked1606 · 30/05/2016 20:43

I lost much of my hair following chemo so my hairdresser suggest wearing silk around my hair as it is gentler than cotton pillowcases. It means my hair won't be rubbed about when I am sleeping as it grows back and as I grow it. It has helped reduce the amount of broken hair and fall out. DH wasn't keen at first but given I also wear a mouth guard over my brace it doesn't make much difference. Wink

In that case, Sherlocked, it's money well spent.

I'll re-wash my hair if they've made a mess of styling it.

PogoBob · 30/05/2016 20:58

All those saying about not liking product why not just tell the hairdresser not to use?? I also hate anything on my hair but have never had an issue as tell the person not to use - you're paying them so can expect them to listen! Only had one hairdresser try to ignore so simply repeated myself (politely - never rude to people holding scissors by my head Wink) and she put the bottle down.

It looks like a hat from the 1930's Smile

If it works then why not...

Justtrying · 30/05/2016 21:04

I have very short hair, but will always wash it before bed after it has been cut to wash away all the bits cut off away. Hate the itch they cause.

I will then have to wash it again in the morning as I wake up looking like I have a Mohican. In fairness it takes less than a minute, I put a brush though it and it's dry within half an hour, or by the time I get to work.

I very rarely use product, maybe a tiny bit of texture blast and wax if on a night out, or a touch of hairspray if it needs cutting.

I'm lucky, when very short my fine hair is easy, just what I need when working shifts starting at 4am, when it was longer it still needed washing everyday, as I wear a hat, part of uniform, so the top gets greasy, it was always up in a bun anyway, even on a night out I normally wore it up, with it short I have no options but it takes minutes.

Only problem is I'm inept at doing dd's, age 5, hair. Also fine but curly, occasionally I get it right and it will fall into ringlets, but plaits or ponytails are a nightmare as it is barely long enough but unless not washed for days so soft I can't do anything with it.

BennyTheBall · 30/05/2016 21:07

Whaaaat? I am on a mission to not wash my hair for as long as possible after the hairdresser.

itsbetterthanabox · 30/05/2016 21:40

I ask them not to put product in

GreatFuckability · 30/05/2016 21:42

i had my haircut on friday. haven't washed it yet. she styles it far better than i can.

the only time i've ever washed my hair after going to the hairdresser was when i dont like how its been styled.

PalcumTowder · 30/05/2016 21:46

I always ask them but they always do it anyway. Every hairdresser I've ever had. And when I question it they say something like "oh but it's only serum" like that doesn't count Hmm so now I just let them get on with it and wash it at home, everyone's happy!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 30/05/2016 21:55

I hate my hair fresh from the hairdressers.
I like to wash it, so the cut falls just how I want it.

GreenMarkerPen · 30/05/2016 22:00

yanbu
I have to wash my hair after cutting. all those tiny hairs on my skin make me itch...

ToucheShay · 30/05/2016 23:12

I get a wet cut, go home and shower. I have to change my clothes and underwear too as I hate the cut hair that gets everywhere.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/05/2016 23:26

I always wash it, I hate the way it's blow-dried,it doesn't look like my hair! Fantastic cut though Grin

RobinsAreTerritorialFuckers · 30/05/2016 23:32

Of course wash it - who wants to walk around with hair snippets falling everywhere?

I would assume a good hairdresser would make it look nice enough for me to get through the day, but it is a bit unpleasant not to wash it asap, surely? Unless you have a full body shower at the time, there will always be stray hairs left on your skin.

DropYourSword · 31/05/2016 14:24

I don't mind getting my hair styled with product as I always watch how she does it and I ask her to use the products I already have (I buy them from her). I talked a photo of my hair when it is styled so I can do it myself

So do you wash your hair in the morning and use product, then wash your hair again the same day before bed?
