AIBU?

Colleague senior academic associate wrote' We'll make due' in an email

It's 'make do', right?

Yep.

And... I am wary of upsetting her... though I can see you may also be weary from doing so... and many more, I am sure Smile

oldlaundbooth · 30/05/2016 17:56

Thanks, Blanche.

I knew I was right!

Yep.

Gide · 30/05/2016 19:30

Ex-colleague did similar-without further adue instead of further ado. Drove us all nuts, we'd be chorusing the correct version at her eventually. Bit poor when she was addressing a staff of maybe 100 about the need for improved literacy.

Balletgirlmum · 30/05/2016 19:36

Yes, unless they mean make due recompense.

Rainatnight · 30/05/2016 19:37

Yes, and I think it would be fair does if you were cross (this drives me mental)

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 19:40

Yes. Just like it's 'another thing coming' not 'think' as some bonkers MNers will have you believe. Tut.

thecatfromjapan · 30/05/2016 19:41

Could it be auto-correct?

Even if it's not, it will make you a lot happier to pretend it is. Grin

My auto-correct changes every 'its' to an 'it's'. It drives me utterly crazy and I don't always manage to catch the over-exuberant apostrophes before I press 'Post' on here.

Seriously, just tell yourself it's auto-correct and you'll find yourself able to read the emails without flinching. It'll make your life so much easier. Smile

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 19:41

It's fair dos.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 30/05/2016 19:45

Yep

I'm a bit obsessed with 'en route' at the moment. Even the school website has 'on route'!

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 19:45

Oh Lordy. This drives me crazy.

runningincircles12 · 30/05/2016 19:50

Cringe. Yes, you're right. It's make DO.

I actually saw a senior lecturer make the your/you're error. It was on facebook so I really hope it was an autocorrect thing.

BestIsWest · 30/05/2016 20:02

It IS 'another think coming.

DuvetDayEveryday · 30/05/2016 20:05

I've seen 'persay' more than once recently. And someone on FB used 'walla!' to mean, I can only asumme, 'voila!'

DuvetDayEveryday · 30/05/2016 20:05

'Assume' obviously. Pedants' curse at work.

Wolfiefan · 30/05/2016 20:06

Make do and mend.

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 20:07

Bestiswest....it really isn't. It doesn't even make sense. So many people on here swear blind it is but it 100% isn't and never has been.

DuvetDayEveryday · 30/05/2016 20:08

It really is another think. You are wrong.

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 20:10

You are wrong. What planet are you on?!

BestIsWest · 30/05/2016 20:11

It really is 'think'.

As in, 'if you think this is right, then you are wrong, you have another think coming'.

Thing does not make sense.

EEVEElution · 30/05/2016 20:13

It is think, not thing.

DameXanaduBramble · 30/05/2016 20:13

No no no. That's not even the whole phrase, people don't say that. 'Think' makes no sense whatsoever. Another think coming? What a load of old rubbish. You're all completely brainwashed!

DuvetDayEveryday · 30/05/2016 20:14

I'm on the planet of correctness.

Google will help you.

Sceptimum · 30/05/2016 20:14

I wish people would rein in these sort of mistakes. (Every time I see "reign in" used to mean bring to stop I want to scream.)
