To give DP lunch for a 6 year old?

NoCapes · 26/05/2016 12:01

DP text me about 10 minutes ago saying he'd forgot to make his lunch so could I throw something together and bring it to him
His office is only about 15 minutes drive so I said yes

However
DP usually makes himself a hot lunch to heat up in the office microwave, but there isn't time for that, and I don't really have a lot of 'lunch' stuff in except the things I buy specifically for DS(6)'s packed lunch
So he has -
A tuna mayo & cucumber sandwich (cut into triangles obviously)
A 'fun size' apple
A little car shaped pot of nuts & raisins
An individually wrapped stick of cheddar
A minion frube
A penguin
And - here's the kicker - it's all in an Octonauts lunch bag

He'll be the butt of office jokes forever won't he? Grin

Canteen's aren't universal and many workplaces are in godforsaken business parks with no bloody facilities. I spent years with nothing more than a vending machine to survive on - wish I could have had a lunch delivered mid-shift (4am in my case!) in an Octonauts bag upon discovering said vending machine was bare Sad

Did it go down well?

SlimCheesy · 26/05/2016 13:13

Now I am craving a tuna mayo sandwich.

Juanbablo · 26/05/2016 13:17

Dh regularly takes the dcs mini rolls or something in his lunchbox. He's currently using a rugby World Cup one that was meant for ds1. His work doesn't have a canteen and its in the middle of nowhere so he couldn't just nip out if he forgot his lunch. He would have to go hungry as it's also too far for me to deliver it to him and I can't drive anyway.

Gibble1 · 26/05/2016 13:19

I would love it! I expect that at least one of his colleagues has a novelty lunch box today. You can tell who has kids or not by the snacks they have in their lunches!

Ivegotyourgoat · 26/05/2016 13:22

Maybe he doesn't like shop bought sandwiches.

I'd gladly do this for dh but he'd do it for me too.

musicmaiden · 26/05/2016 13:23

Hasn't anyone been on yet to say that your selection is not a healthy enough lunch for your six year old, let alone your husband?*

No?

Mumsnet is losing it today.

*Not my opinion whatsoever

NoCapes · 26/05/2016 13:26

Well he was rather chuffed with his lunch

He skipped across the car park swinging his lunch bag exaggerate? Moi?

He didnt have any money with him to buy something by the way, although they only have vending machines anyway

I'd do it. But my DH wouldn't mind if I did and would play along with it all. Likewise, I'd find it amusing if DH did it to me.

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/05/2016 13:48

Whoever shouted about going to the canteen; I have never worked in an office with a canteen!! I don't think they are exactly standard to have.

NoCapes · 26/05/2016 13:48

musicmaiden not one person has said that!
Confused MN? Are you there?!

squizita · 26/05/2016 13:51

A colleague of mine has a chill-bag with paw patrol on it. A hand me down from his son. :)

I cannot comment for a normal DH but mine quite likes children's food so would be very happy. Shame my DD wants grown up stuff like roast chicken usually! Grin

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 26/05/2016 13:58

Now I am craving a tuna mayo sandwich.

This ^^.

redskytonight · 26/05/2016 13:59

My colleagues routinely bring in their lunch in "children's" lunch boxes
(eyes colleague to left with Disney Princesses, and colleague behind with Marvel super heroes).

Do I just have weird colleagues?

summerdreams · 26/05/2016 14:00

Wish that was my lunch today Envy.

CaptainCallisto · 26/05/2016 14:08

My lunch goes to work in a cool bag TARDIS Grin

Sadly it is not bigger on the inside...

FatalFemme · 26/05/2016 14:35

It's not a TARDIS then is it?! Hmm Wink

NoCapes · 26/05/2016 14:49

Fatal Grin

CaptainCallisto · 26/05/2016 14:50

Alas, no. I still love it though Wink

Fluffyears · 26/05/2016 17:47

I've never worked anywhere with s canteen. Do these exist in many places?

FatalFemme · 26/05/2016 17:52

I think it's time to be honest with yourself Captain. It's just a bog standard police box isn't it? Hmm?

CaptainCallisto · 26/05/2016 20:06

It's a distinct possibility, Fatal. Do you think I could sue Asda (who sold it marked as TARDIS) for selling under false pretences?

Janeymoo50 · 26/05/2016 20:20

Work canteens became extinct in about 1989. I have a Minnie Mouse cooler/lunch box. It's the envy of the dept.

FatalFemme · 26/05/2016 20:21

I think it's a case for the Judoon

dillydotty · 26/05/2016 20:25

I worked for a firm with a canteen and nothing else around. All tea and coffee had to be bought there too. It worked out bloody expensive.

wallybantersjunkbox · 26/05/2016 20:39

On my first day in a new job I accidentally took my sons lunch.

My team were a bit amused at me sitting there with a peanut butter sandwich and carrot sticks, with a Petit Filous for pud. Blush

DS ate the couscous salad though!
