Am I the only person who thinks the concept of Mrs M&S is bollocks and finds the whole idea crap?

OP posts:
IpreferToblerone · 27/05/2016 14:24

My screen too! Let's hope our 'MrM&S's don't think oh I'll treat my 'Mrs M&S' to those clothes she's been googling 🙃 Because obviously it's the Mr M&S who would be paying for our clothes at the end of the day 🤔🙄

LunaLoveg00d · 27/05/2016 14:31

I walked through a large M&S today on the way to a shopping centre car park. Food hall was heaving, clothes section quiet. Says it all.

Saw what other posters mean about the clutter and confusion, I saw jeans in about three different sections on my way through. They also had that bloody sleeveless pink linen jacket on a dummy! Saw ONE nice blue dress which looks much nicer in real life than it does on the website. www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-embroidered-dress/p/p60080726

Also their cosmetics and perfume section looks great - very shiny and high end.

RhodaBull · 27/05/2016 14:38

That is a very nice dress, Luna, even if it does have no sleeves! There's always the cardi option...

shinynewusername · 27/05/2016 14:39

I love the model's expression in this one. "Please God, don't let my mates see this." Smile

Why on earth have they got it on a 22ish year old when surely it is designed for Mrs M&S whoever the fuck she may be?

handslikecowstits · 27/05/2016 14:40

www.marksandspencer.com/rose-print-jacquard-maxi-dress/p/p60080854?prevPage=plp

No just fucking no.

LunaLoveg00d · 27/05/2016 14:44

Yes I would always go for the wrap/cardi option.

Phase Eight do this sort of thing very well. Perhaps a bit more pricey than M&S, but designed by people who aren't inhaling crack and clothing which is wearable and flattering for people who don't want to show off upper arms or lots of cleavage.

shinynewusername · 27/05/2016 14:57

Ouch handslike! Same model too - she must have done something pretty terrible in a previous life Wink

handslikecowstits · 27/05/2016 15:04

The fabric's bad enough but the line across the thighs and then the sort of bustle gone wrong is just hideous and not flattering on anyone at all.

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/05/2016 15:43

They are truly awful. I'd love to know who is actually buying this stuff... Is Mrs M&S, Hyacinth Bucket?

SirChenjin · 27/05/2016 15:50

Oh dear...that rose print dress is baaad Shock Grin.

Navy one is quite nice actually - a bit Boden-y

TeaAddict235 · 27/05/2016 16:23

M&S just seems to shout grey ill-fitting viscose trousers, daily mail readers and Costa del Sol over 50s for me. Frump central!

They don't want a young 30somethings cash!

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/05/2016 16:25

The young 30somethings who have kids and houses that need furnishings!! Bizarre isn't it?

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 27/05/2016 16:53

That jacquard maxi-dress looks like an outfit that would be worn by the pregnant character in an early 90s rom com.

Glitteryfrog · 27/05/2016 17:36

I should have been Alexa Chung rummages through the archive target market.
Early 30s, disposable income, size 10, like fashion.

However : slip dresses with no coveragr for a bra - nope. I fucking love grunge queen Courtney Love, but still no.
Diana princess of Wales shirts (ruffly neck) - nope I remember it the first time.
Dresses were mega short, I'm too old to be flashing my pants.
The green coat was odd.

Oldraver · 27/05/2016 18:06

I confess to buying a Per Una shirt this week...however I was put off for a while that it was Per Una...and didnt buy it then realised I did waNT it and it was nearly out of stock (which nearly put me off again.)

So I wandered off to get the item at a distant store and came across this monstrosity...it was worse IRL and I couldn't help but look at it and recoil in horror

70's chic

CrazyDuchess · 27/05/2016 18:09

The first picture is fine.... it's when you see it on the model Confused

BeckywiththeGoodHare · 27/05/2016 18:34

That rose print dress is one loooong evening of:

Wow! Are you pregnant?
No.
Hey! When's it due?
I'm not pregnant.
Congratulations!
I'm not pregnant.
Oooh, is that a...
I'M NOT PREGNANT.

wizzler · 27/05/2016 18:45

My friend and I go to M&S in our lunchtime. We play " do we know anyone at all who would wear that ? ".... It is not a very high point scoring game.

SarfEast1cated · 27/05/2016 18:50

Do you think we should do some kind of summing up?
So we want them to:
-keep their ethical sourcing
-provide us with good quality basics a la Boden, Uniqlo and John Lewis
-bring back good quality underwear
-ditch all of the different brands and just have one
-ditch the celebs
-make shops less cluttered and confusing

CrazyDuchess · 27/05/2016 18:52

Keep their tights and hosiery

Good fitting trousers - in long lengths too
Good Bras that last and are worth the amount of money they spend
Good work and everyday wear collection - that's sensible!

elfycat · 27/05/2016 18:56

I'm not clicking on the links. Last time I had days of nasty advertising all over my screen.

I'm happy to be one of the 15 MN Volunteers (we get paid in gin, right? I'll need the gin). I'm mid 40s, so looking forwards to my declining years where one day I'll wake up to a 50th birthday balloon and the lobotomy in the 'giving a shit about how I look' part of my brain.

Recently I took DH into M&S we had time to kill to look for an outfit for a friend's wedding. I knew what we'd find but DH was astounded by how dreadful every thing was; The layout, colour matching and just the clothing I already have a Laura Ashley dress, and one from EAST as back-up

He is not Mr M&S apparently.

I have also bought my first non-M&S bra in... at least 2 decades. Went in to buy a replacement as I'd lost some weight. In 2 months they had discontinued the set. This is not the first time I've had that. I remember when they had a simple basic set that you could mix and match padded/non, balcony/plunge bras with briefs/thongs/high legs/FrenchKnickerShortsThingsThatEndUpAsThongs for years without messing up the set you already owned. Sorry M&S but I'm Mrs Debenhams for bras now.

TwentyCupsOfTea · 27/05/2016 19:15

Well I'm not Mrs m&s at all as im in my twenties. I mostly shop in charity shops, the market or supermarkets for my clothes.
However for underwear, jeans and shoes m&s used to be one of the places I went. Now I choose next.

I may not be 50, but I still have a home that needs furnishing, family who need feeding and a body which needs clothing! They can offer all this, and if it was quality I would buy it.

But I don't want to shop somewhere that is now sadly so lacking on areas where it used to excel.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 27/05/2016 19:24

I'd like them to sell bras for people with boobs with a 28 back. Finding that there are a couple of 28AAs available in the training bras for primary school girls section does not help me. And, no, a 32D will not do the job instead.

swampytiggaa · 27/05/2016 19:55

My mom is 87. She complains weekly about m&s clothes and has done for approximately 20 years. She would love to hand over her cash to them like she did back in the 1970's but can't find anything she likes for herself, me and my siblings or her grandchildren.

We don't have a big m&s locally. I shop in gap and supermarkets tbh.

dancerdog · 27/05/2016 20:12

I too was stunned by
a) 'Mrs M&S'
b) that pink horror thing
My sister gave me a 20% off card valid for a few days last week, I though I'd give it a go - managed to get 2 handwashes and 3 pairs of pants (had to try very hard to get the right pants).
A lot of boggin' awful stuff in that shop. All I want is a proper white blouse and a pair of navy work trousers without elastic.
How can this be so hard?
Oh, and the shape of the heels on the sandals is just OFF.
