I am lazy. If I make the coffee, and it's after 7pm, I make decaf for both of us as then I'm only opening one container and I always switch to decaf after lunch.

DH doesn't switch to decaf, even at 11pm at night weirdo so he was affronted when I told him this just now. He then said well he sometimes gives me caffeinated coffee in the evenings.

I am insisting that sneakily giving someone caffeine is worse than sneakily not giving them caffeine.

AIBU to switch him to decaf for my own laziness his health, and is he BU to think our crimes are equal?

(In case it's not clear, this is light hearted, no need to squeal first world problem at me or anything)

Decaf still has some caff in it (although not as much as a hot chocolate). Caff is better for you because of all the chemicals used to remove the caff in decaf. Do with that what you will.

Well given that chemicals dont give me excrutiating headaches and caffeine does, I will stick with decaff thanks

Roonerspism · 25/05/2016 00:04

Now we are really in the nub of things.

Not all decaf has weird chemicals. Some companies extract the caffeine by the water method. Just sayin

Bogeyface · 25/05/2016 00:17

I have just checked and the instant coffee I use is decaffed by the Swiss Water Method, and the ground by the CO2 method. Neither using chemicals.

What is decaff coffee for? I don't see the point, have horlicks or something soporific, if coffee affects you. Coffee without caffeine is like vodka without alcohol.

Liiinooo · 25/05/2016 00:42

Queen. there is a wide gulf between the soporific effect of Horlicks and avoiding the shakes and jitters and need to constantly wee that caffeine gives me.
And filter decaf coffee tastes SO good. Like PPs have said it still contains traces of caffiene but not enough to trouble me and if you use a good quality ground decaf it will taste much more like 'real' coffee than any instant brand.

This is strictly between you and me - you mustn't tell anyone but I sometimes give coffee addict guests my ground decaf and don't let on. So far, no one has spat it out or left a cup in a hidden corner.

MardleBum · 25/05/2016 00:47

this is what I think of Decaf

tabulahrasa · 25/05/2016 00:56

Hang on, so neither of you noticed whether it was decaf or not?

So then surely you're both being unreasonable by having both types?

Blu · 25/05/2016 00:57

Decaf is foul, instant is foul, have a glass of wine.

sashh · 25/05/2016 06:06

You are both being unreasonable if you are drinking instant and calling it coffee.

As for work, well several workplaces have been left with coffee machines after I left, argos do one that periodically is discounted to £5
