AIBU to think this man was a selfish twat

A man climbed into a lion enclosure and encouraged the lions to attack him in order to try and commit suicide

This resulted in two lions being shot in order to save the mans life and a lot of traumatised people, including children, who witnessed it

Before anyone starts ranting iabu because he could have had mental problems, I understand that. But I still think he was a selfish idiot

sparepants actually I do have experience first hand of suffering depression, anxiety etc.

My best friend had bi polar. She killed herself during a psychotic episode.

Not to say she wasn't manipulative, selfish and her constant cries for help (previous attempts) she didn't know what she was doing because she did (and told me about it). She had a lot of lucid and none lucid thoughts. I'm sad she's dead and suffered though.

Sorry but this man had enough rational thought not to get help and to climb into a lion's den, buy a ticket to the zoo etc.

In fact I agree with eat he acted in a selfish manner but yes he wasn't in the right place to know what he was doing so could be excused that (have since read he was bereaved (his mother) 2 weeks previously) when he did what he did.

I'm a qualified doctor and when working in psychiatry I've seen many patients in the grip of severe and bizarre psychotic delusions manage to complete all sorts of tasks such as getting on a train, navigating across London on the tube, buying tickets to a big tourist attraction and then being promptly sectioned for creating a huge public disturbance because they thought they were the next messiah.

You cannot say that the man was rational because he managed to enter the zoo and get into the enclosure. It does not work like that,

Apologies, I missed the quote. My previous post was in response to this.

OK Purple I bow down to your wisdom.

So he wasn't rational.

Yeah it's complex. I feel for him I suppose what could the zoo do for good and bad??

imwithspud · 25/05/2016 22:01

Just because someone is able to complete simple every day tasks such as purchasing a ticket does not mean they are able to think rationally about their safety, well being and that their perception of the world around them is not altered in some way.
