to not get hot shorts for a 12 year old

I'm clothes shopping with my 12 year old. She picks up a pair of hot shorts and wants them but I refuse. In the end we agreed on slightly longer shorts.

I feel conflicted though I want her to feel free to wear what she wants as any woman is entitled to. But I also feel, now she is becoming a woman, I don't want her dressed in a sexualised way - men look, it's not nice, that's reality. But then again, I'm glad she's innocent and unaware of that (she just wants to look cool)

What do you think mm jury? Aibu to refuse the hotshorts?

Anyone bought any shorts that they would recommend for this age children. My child's cotton jersey ones are getting too small but I can't find something similar to replace them.

Paulat2112 · 22/05/2016 08:04

Yanbu.

Personally my DD does not and never will (whilst in our care) wear anything that short. We generally stick to anything around the knee or below.

curren · 22/05/2016 08:06

From now until September all the boys playing out won't have a top on at all here.

Why would a boy wear a crop top? I don't get the comparison, at all.

Gowgirl · 22/05/2016 08:08

I loved my daisy dukes! I still have a pair hiding upstairs, unfortunately they are for the very young or supermodels, sorry compleatly off topic.....

marmiteloversunite · 22/05/2016 08:08

Data If she is wearing women's sizes you could look in Sainsburys. They have 25% off this weekend too b

Stillwishihadabs · 22/05/2016 08:08

What about you Paula ? Did you and you never wear anything above the knee ? ( boggles)

Paulat2112 · 22/05/2016 08:09

Yes, really.

Exactly what a stupid comparison.

That should read did you and do you ?

Paulat2112 · 22/05/2016 08:11

No I don't wear anything above the knee generally.

SantanaBinLorry · 22/05/2016 08:11

dataandspot - my two boys luve in jersey joggy bottoms in winter and cut off jersey joggy bottoms in summer ;) Length depending on where on the knee they start to wear out!

I dont have a problem with theses hot shorts. Loads of tweens wear them here (spanish island) with t's/plaid shirts and pumps. They look super comfy and actually quite practical, like a big gym knicker!
I take issue with some younger girls clothes, mainly inappropriate pictures or words on clothes, or boob shapes on littles bikinis etc. But not these, arse covered, legs out. Nowt wrong with that.

Just a personal preference. Millions of people around the world do it, its not that strange lol

SantanaBinLorry · 22/05/2016 08:14

ha, boys are wearing crop tops here this summer... NOT a good look im afraid to say!

Stillwishihadabs · 22/05/2016 08:15

Ok Paula, I think it's a cultural difference probably. Growing up females of all ages in my family wore above knee clothing (skirts with tights, shorts in the summer) although not for work perhaps.

Stillwishihadabs · 22/05/2016 08:20

Also the women in our family do have shapely legs ( if I say so myself)

christinarossetti · 22/05/2016 08:22

That's a good point about boy's shorts aren't made that short.

The ones in the picture are what I would describe as 'ordinary' shorts. I think OP is talking about the ultra tight, just cover your knickers daisy duke type.

I completely understand your dilemma OP.

Not a good look on girls either -

ZenNudist · 22/05/2016 08:26

As long as bum is covered and she's not also wearing a crop top /revealing top then it's fine. Legs out is fine. Too little clothing a bit tacky. Also not too thin a fabric, also tacky.

Can you teach her legs or boobs not both style rule?

I disagree Cody I think a flash of toned, tanned midriff ( not acres of it) is lovely, and I mourn the loss of mine ( see username). It's theirs for what 15 years (12-27) why not enjoy it ?
