I was just asking myself this same question the other day actually, as we are going on holiday next week and fancied a couple of little shorty rompers a for DS who is 22 months. I briefly looked at matalans website but they only go up to age 18 months so I gave up as I assumed that would be the same everywhere. The verbaudet link has given me hope though!

curren · 12/05/2016 05:32

I loved short romper a for both Dd and ds especially when it was hot or we were on holiday.

I would say they can wear them until they get to a size they no longer make them for him.

InTheSandPit · 12/05/2016 05:50

DS2 wore those as summer wear the summer after he was 2. (And the winter Sun holiday when he was 18 months).
For me, not wintercwear with feet, but perfect for the summer with out having to worry about tee-shirts working up and needing to suncream their lower back when playing (digging!) in the garden

GreenTomatoJam · 12/05/2016 07:22

I'm with one current bun - until potty training when they need to deal with their own trousers.

as lounging wear, no age limit (and actually much more practical for boys who don't have to undress to wee)

SlapACatFuckADuck · 12/05/2016 07:30

IMO i stopped putting my ds's in rompers and sleepsuits at around 3 months they just look weird more so sleepsuits then rompers

AuntieMaggie · 12/05/2016 07:46

If I can find any for my 2 year old he'll be wearing them this summer!

Artandco · 12/05/2016 07:50

How can a 3 month old look wierd in a babygrow? As others have said sleepsuit is a new word for them, before they have always been babygrows and for babies all the time

NeedACleverNN · 12/05/2016 07:56

I think babies in clothes look more weird than sleepsuits especially at 3 months!

SlapACatFuckADuck · 12/05/2016 07:57

It looks like pj in MY opinion, from day dot DS's had day clothes and night clothes a) to help with routine and b) I didn't want him in pjs all day not getting dressed. Plus they look weird in the leg past 3-6 months size and I do always wonder whether that's an outfit choice or whether they haven't been dressed yet. That's my opinion though

RedToothBrush · 12/05/2016 07:57

They are great for pjs with a toddler who has just found his willy...

AngelsWithFilthySouls · 12/05/2016 07:59

I'm in the minority but DS is 18mo and I wouldn't put him in a romper. He wore one last year but only because someone else bought it. Shorts and t-shirts for nice weather and jeans, t-shirts, hoodies etc when colder.

Artandco · 12/05/2016 07:59

But they do get changed, mine would have a sleepsuit in at night, then clean one on in the morning for the day.

museumum · 12/05/2016 08:03

My ds is potty trained now at 2.5. Some of his friends earlier so I wouldn't be buying new ones for a 2 yr old.

SlapACatFuckADuck · 12/05/2016 08:04

But as I said I see them as PJ's so to me it's like changing PJ's for pJ's then going out. I don't go out in my pjs not even To then corner shop so neither does ds, we go out in "proper" clothes

NeedACleverNN · 12/05/2016 08:08

My ds was in sleepsuits until be became mobile. Which was 12 months

Even now if I'm just popping to the shops or just into town i will put him in a clean sleepsuit and leave him as that.

He is a baby and can therefore get away with it

TigerPath · 12/05/2016 08:09

I agree that they look weird on older babies/toddlers, I don't know why... I suppose it looks a bit like you want them to look like tiny babies still. Or that you couldn't be bothered to get them dressed. They're great when they're little and sleep most of the day, I kept my DS in sleepsuits all the time as a newborn. I can't imagine him wearing one now at 9months!

Nearly all babies at the groups I go to wear tops and trousers, dungarees, leggings etc.

My mum says in her day all babies wore sleepsuits (babygrows) or rompers with a long knitted cardigan-jacket thing on top to 'look smart' when they went out. Babygrows and rompers were more like underwear.

FutureGadgetsLab · 12/05/2016 08:09

I don't get how clothes help with routine. Babies have multiple changes per day because they vomit/poo/get messy plus they sleep in the day in their "day clothes" anyway...so I'm not seeing it?

I also don't see the pyjama thing.

FutureGadgetsLab · 12/05/2016 08:10

Tiger it's only recently they've been called "sleepsuits" as baby "fashion" has taken off. Before they were just normal babywear.

MLGs · 12/05/2016 08:10

I was going to say 3 or 4. Definitely not at school age. Until they start wanting to be the same as all the other kids I guess.

Ilovenannyplum · 12/05/2016 08:10

My DS is 21 months (admittedly v small, only just gone into 12-18 months) I dress him in these sometimes when it's very warm, that way I don't need a vest on him and he can't pull his nappy off (which he can do when wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

I think they're very cute, I like the ones that are shorts and a top together if that makes sense?
Buy them if you like them OP Grin

meffhead · 12/05/2016 08:26

I think 12-18 is the cut off.... I like them to look like boys by 18 mths and need up and down trousers for itty training !

blueturtle6 · 12/05/2016 08:26

Totally fine, personally I like to see babies and toddlers in baby clothes, plenty of tine for adult clothes as they grow up.

AmysTiara · 12/05/2016 08:30

No i think they look odd on a older toddler but that's just my personal opinion.

Ilovenannyplum · 12/05/2016 08:32

In fact here is miniilovenannyplum in his last week, cute I think (he's 2 in August....) Smile
