Bailey's Häagen-Dazs to be specific. When pregnant.

AIBU to think that this is not what a pregnant woman should be doing??

I'm not the pregnant woman in question..my sister is. SInce finding out about her pregnancy (20 weeks ago) she's stuffed her face with junk food day in day out despite warnings from her consultant and family but she carries on.

Warnings about what? Is she at particular risk of GD or something?

Pinkheart5915 · 10/05/2016 17:52

Does she suffer with morning sickness? I know some women can only keep down crisps for example everything else makes them sick.

I am pregnant myself 27 weeks and I actually started a thread today about people telling me to eat more as I continue to eat like I did before pregnancy, they thought I should be eating everything in sight.

I don't think your right to judge your sister, it's ultimately her body. I'm not really sure why a consultant would advise her not to eat "junk" food unless she was overweight prior to pregnancy maybe?

She has gestational diabetes and is morbidly obese

I had a milk Ice lolly for breakfast on my walk to work at 7.30 this morning.

Oh shit I thought it was you! Sounds like you're pissed off with her rather than worried. Her body, her baby, her choice. Resisting food urges is bloody hard at the best of times, when you have a delicious little parasite sapping all your nutrients, it's sometimes impossible. Offer to make her a nice healthy meal if you must, but cut her some slack too maybe.

My 5 year old had icecream as part of her breakfast this lunchtime morning. She has horrible chicken pox so normal eating is out of the window.

*Ice cream in a brioche type bun is an actual breakfast in Sicily. Those people truly know how to live.

I think it's fair to say that she won't be doing her heath too many favours if she eats Bailey's ice cream for every meal, but once or twice won't do any harm.

OohMavis · 11/05/2016 17:51

I think that must be the drippiest dripfeed I've ever seen on Mumsnet.

Beth2511 · 11/05/2016 17:54

Im 18 weeks and ate 8 twister lollies on sat then cried because i ran out

Enjoyingthepeace · 11/05/2016 20:29

Did you really Beth? Because that to me just sounds like a pregnancy 'story'

I'm with Flowers.

I craved salt, both times, big time. I sometimes caved in but for massive majority of time I fought it, despite colleagues and strangers telling me to basically eat whatever and whenever because I should enjoy indulging when pregnant.

Errr, I'm growing a human being thanks. If ever a time to fight the craving for excessive sugar or salt, I'd say that's the frickin' time!

hownottofuckup · 11/05/2016 20:31

Hahaha made me laugh Beth Grin

stealthsquiggle · 11/05/2016 22:02

See, I went with my pregnancy cravings, and wish they had stuck around, because all I wanted was fresh fruit and veg. Mostly expensive sorts of fruit and veg, but that was the only indulgent aspect. Bakery counters made me heave, and I had no great desire for salt either.
