To be eating a bowl of chocolate butter icing!?

I really fancied some butter icing so I made some, had some Coco powder too so threw that in. Now I'm sitting here eating it out of the bowl and I can almost feel my arteries clogging up. I'm just eating spoonfuls of butter FFS! Does anyone else do this!? It must be SO bad for you Shock

That's disgusting.

Lots of other people's food choices seem upleasant to me (I dont like raw fish, or peas, for example). Calling it 'disgusting' just because you woulnt want to eat it is pretty fucking childish though, isn't it?

And then we get threads like "I think size 8 people must all be anorexic" and "do you eat three meals a day? How is this possible?" while posters brag about eating butter.

Because those posters are the same people?? I (one of those who said they have done this) am a healthy weight for my height, and definitely don't assume size 8 people are anorexic because I've been one.

Eating a bowl of icing is fundamentally no different than having a bowl of ice cream, or a slice of cheese cake, not exactly something you'd eat every day but hardly indicative of a problem if you eat it on a rare occasion.

blinkyoullmissit · 09/05/2016 19:28

I really fancied a chocolate spread sandwich one day but to my horror we had run out! Into the cupboards I went to didn't

blinkyoullmissit · 09/05/2016 19:28

Oops ds pressed post before I finished!

... Into the cupboards I went to find a substitute. Long story short. Buttercream icing and bread is horrid

SerialBodenReturner · 09/05/2016 19:30

YA definitely NBU.

I have been known to make a little bowl of chocolate butter icing just to eat by itself. I want some now, in fact, now I've thought about it.

BeckysMediocreHair · 09/05/2016 19:35

"Societies tendency towards normalizing gluttony..."

This.

I would honestly not have guessed that multiple people would confess to eating sugared butter as a snack. I thought it was really, really odd, like confessing to nibbling sand or something. That almost 3 pages of people say they do it too is eye-opening to me.

I don't see eating some raw butter as the same thing as eating a tube of Pringles - one is a treat. The other is ... it's eating butter! Sprinkle a bit of sugar on it doesn't make it a foodstuff. I wouldn't say peas were disgusting because that's just a food, but to take a base raw ingredient and shovel it into your maw for no good reason - you're not starving, you're not mad - actually, well, creates feelings of disgust. But, like I say, this is because I had no clue people did this. If someone comes along and says they drink pint pots of raw eggs, I'd be equally disgusted - it's just taking random kitchen items and eating them for the sake of eating.

BillBrysonsBeard · 09/05/2016 19:36

Some of us just have a raging sweet tooth and can't get to the shop for whatever reason. It's a chocolate emergency Cake

BillBrysonsBeard · 09/05/2016 19:40

Beckys It's not just butter though, that would be grim. It's mixed with ALOT of icing sugar, then cocoa if desired. The mixing makes it into a substance that is eaten by many people on cakes. It is not eating butter on its own.

whatever22 · 09/05/2016 19:45

sugared butter

Ffs. So you've never eaten sugared cream? (aka ice cream?) Sugared cream cheese? (aka cheesecake?) Sugared milk and eggs? (aka custard?).

Op didn't grab a stick of butter and eat it, they made a common and popular type of icing. Its tasty (that's why you put it on cakes). Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it 'not food'.

LostMyBaubles · 09/05/2016 19:54

I made a Betty crocker cake and bought some of the chocolate fudge icing. Made itat 6am on sunday mmorning 😳 and theres 2 slices left and an empty pot of icing (me dh and ds3 ate it but mainly me lol

To be eating a bowl of chocolate butter icing!?
AnotherTimeMaybe · 09/05/2016 19:54

By the way, I don't mean to derail but as I had no clue that butter cream had butter Blush I order birthday cake for ds birthday and shop guy said I don't need to put in fridge... But why not if its butter??

LostMyBaubles · 09/05/2016 19:55

I used to make cookie cupcakes (like millies cookies) and would make extra butter cream for later lol

Naicecuppatea · 09/05/2016 20:13

YABU, icing makes me feel sick unless it is in a very thin layer on a cake! something about the super sweet claggy taste.....hurl

Oysterbabe · 09/05/2016 20:21

You don't keep butter in the fridge Anothertime, you keep it in a butter dish.

AnotherTimeMaybe · 09/05/2016 20:23

Oyster really? It doesn't go off??
I ve always put in the fridge! How can it not go off? Fucking hell the things you learn on MN!!

UmbongoUnchained · 09/05/2016 20:25

I keep my butter in the fridge... Only my great granny owns a butter dish that I know of Grin

Oysterbabe · 09/05/2016 20:25
Grin As long as it is actually butter and not like Flora. How do you spread it if you keep it in the fridge?
UmbongoUnchained · 09/05/2016 20:27

I don't use butter as spread I guess, only in cakes.

Oysterbabe · 09/05/2016 20:32

It doesn't spoil if left out for a few days. We leave half a pack out at a time and have never had it go rancid before we've used it.

CaveMum · 09/05/2016 20:58

I have a bowl of cream cheese frosting chilling in the fridge ready to ice my rainbow cake for my birthday on Wednesday Grin

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2016 20:58

I do take the point about fat shaming I suppose. That post was on the verge. But tbh I do think people being polite and me usually seeing them eating their 'special occassion' type food didn't help me understand what was normal. I have two slim cousins. They used to come round and eat, drink etc. I used to woder how they were so slim. I was embarrassingly old when I realised they didn't always indulge as they did when I saw them at family parties. Oh ad they do loads of exercise.
Every time I see someone say something like becks said or have a light bulb moment based on someone else's habits or comments it really helps. A lot more than the theads I used to start saying "shall I have pish food or cookie dough ice cream?" To which the answer is always "both". People are being light hearted. I was being serious.

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2016 21:00

Anyway I am making a light hearted thread serious sotry. Just touched a nerve. I used to do this all the time, any opportunity I got. I also used to make myself huge chocolate ice cream sundaes with sauce, flake etc. Sometimes I'd have two. For a normal dessert after my lunch on my own.

DoinItFine · 09/05/2016 21:33

Sugared butter on sliced white bread used to be a normal snack for children.

Just on the sugared butter thing.

LOL at nothe realising buttercream icing had butter in it 😂😂

In fairness, it doesn't have cream...

cdtaylornats · 09/05/2016 22:42

At least your not eating something like this US delicacy

Runningupthathill82 · 09/05/2016 23:22

This thread reminds me of the time my friend told me she'd eaten a whole ball of mozzarella, just from her hand "like an apple." It's just a bit, well, eeeeugh.

It would never occur to me to knock up a bowl of buttercream to eat, and I find it very weird, I have to admit.

Butter, though, has to be kept in a butter dish on the side!

Lalasworld · 09/05/2016 23:38

YANBU - I have bought Betty Crocker 'frosting' as I worked out it was cheaper than cup cakes ... and I really only wanted the icing. I put 2 tsp in a tiny bowl and ate it with a tiny spoon. It really hit the spot. However, there are days when anyone would need a big bowl and a big spoon and YANBU (IMHO) - I'm just off for a snack...
