Stick to the story, make it believable and don't be a prat?

I know it's shitty to troll and I hate it but at least make it a decent attempt when you do so!

OP posts:

Some trolls are getting down to a new level imo, using deceased children and Godchildren, because you end up doubting yourself and feeling awful for even considering they are trolling about such a sensitive subject.

Some trolls are just bored- others trolls are just sick.

RockMeMomma · 09/05/2016 00:58

There are certain topics, that usually start up on a Friday night, that you know are trolls looking for a rise. They just want to start the weekend with a bunfight.

MatthewWrightIsThick · 09/05/2016 01:59

I'm glad the dead child sister was was picked up. It seemed very trolley but lots of people were posting Confused. Sick aren't they

There seem to be a few about teens and sex at the moment. What a weird way to get your kicks.

MatthewWrightIsThick · 09/05/2016 02:00

My post read badly ... I meant the TROLLS are sick

Pipbin · 09/05/2016 06:18

I wonder if there could be some kind of rule that you have to post a certain number of replies to threads before starting one.

firesidechat · 09/05/2016 06:29

Trolls quite often post on a few harmless threads first, but they are so keen to get going with their trolling that they can't keep it up for long.

TheDowagerCuntess · 09/05/2016 06:56

The wedding one was boggling for the sheer volume of people piling on to buy it. Sometime I think I'm too cynical, though.

Yep broken arms-deleted due to doubts about the poster.

firesidechat · 09/05/2016 08:21

What was the wedding one? There have been so many recently.

DoctorDoctor · 09/05/2016 08:30

You read John Jordan's work then, acasualobserver?

No, to the best of my knowledge, I have not read any books by John Jordan. I searched for him on Amazon and found he wrote a well-received book about French naval ships. Not by thing, I'm afraid.

MorrisZapp · 09/05/2016 08:48

Why are people so bloody credulous though. Nobody demands more money as a wedding gift, nor do they kick off when their best friend wants to get home to their ill child.

And nobody that either of these things happened to would need to ask if they were being unreasonable.

I'm sorry but MN gets the trolls it deserves.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2016 08:56

People are very gullible.

I often read threads and just wonder how that thought made it out of the poster's brain and into a thread in AIBU. Grin

But but the vile hen pubzilla one had Facebook screen shots! So that wasn't real? Shock I was so invested! disclaimer - am up a lot feeding newborn - but probably do need to get a life

DoctorDoctor · 09/05/2016 09:17

acasualobserver different one. Wrote an academic journal article about Kaycee Swanson, made up blogger of years ago whose creator lied about her having cancer and then how the blogging community reacted. You'd find it interesting. If I can find an accessible link I'll PM it.

Hawaiian made up screenshots. Apparently you can set your audience to 'just you' somehow so that's what the person seems to have done and then created screenshots. It's a lot of effort to go to.

TheJiminyConjecture · 09/05/2016 09:24

I'm pretty sure the cheque one has been doing the rounds online a few years. I recognised the wording.

Swing and a miss

Mrsmorton · 09/05/2016 09:36

I was watching a very sad deceased child one which disappeared. I don't know if it was a troll or not though Sad it wasn't about names.

TheDowagerCuntess · 09/05/2016 09:48

Pubzilla was incredible. Literally, incredible! Grin

The knight in shining armour prosecutor DH, that some Mumsnetters were throwing themselves at was the step too far.

FairNotFair · 09/05/2016 09:57

What happened to the thread in which we were asked to analyse a drawing done by the OP's DS?

Didn't know what to make of it. Although it did look as though the school had picked up its handbag and was about to flounce.

BillBrysonsBeard · 09/05/2016 10:07

The cheque one as well? I thought that was dodgy but MNHQ said it was fine. Trolls know what people want, a bit of drama and boy do they give it... People lap it up. Even when you're doubting it you're almost hoping it's true!

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 09/05/2016 10:12

Are you talking about the one where the OP gave a cheque for £100 and the recipient emailed implying that more should have been given? Forgive me if I am mistaken but that one hasn't been deleted - it's moved to classics and nowhere does MNHQ say or imply that it wasn't above board. Or is there another such thread?
