Naked children in the park - who is right?

We're currently enjoying the sun in the park with DD 4 months (who is enjoying it by being asleep in the shade) It is packed with families as you'd expect. In the group next to us there are two little girls, I'm going to guess about 4 and 5, who are having a lovely time running around and playing completely in the buff. I was saying to DH that I wouldn't let our DD run around naked at that age in such a public place. There could be any number of dodgy characters watching on and getting off on it. He thinks it's fine, that they're still young enough to get away with it. Also in the unlikely event there is a lurking paedo, they're completely oblivious and it's not going to hurt them at all, you can't live in fear.
Who's right? Am I being too Daily Mail paedo round every corner or is it correct to be cautious about such things?

That WOULD be a hygiene issue though

PrimalLass · 08/05/2016 19:34

I wouldn't let mine either. There is no reason they couldn't keep their pants on and run about like that.

Birdsgottafly · 08/05/2016 19:36

My middle DD used to love to be naked, I used to put her knickers back on, at about 2.5, but it wasn't then end of the world if she ran around for a bit, fully naked.

As for child sex offenders, they've all got their specific likes, pigtails, plaits, frilly socks etc.

You see some people react ridiculously to naked babies/children.

I lived in an area, were we would get paddling pools out in the street and some children were naked. I'd personally prefer pants on, especially for boys, but wouldn't judge.

pacillin that's a very cute bear ass 😊

BluePancakes · 08/05/2016 19:38

YABU and your DH is right. There is no problem at all with children enjoying innocent fun.

As a naturist, I find it hilarious that some people think children will be confused, as this is so far from the truth! Children are very adaptive, and so can be naked in one place, without needing to be naked in another, and they can be naked at one time, without needing to be naked in the same place at a different time.

In the UK, it is not illegal to be naked in public, whether an adult or a child. Whether it is 'necessary' or not, surely depends on how much you feel the heat and/or how averse you are to having wet/sweaty clothing stuck to you.

Want one.

SeptemberFlowers · 08/05/2016 19:43

I was fine with mine being in the buff until about 4ish. Then it was pants on, can run around to their hearts content but pants on, as we had already started chats about privates / pants.

The children were having fun and cooling down, what was the problem?

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2016 19:47

shazza have you read the thread? People have posted their views on what the problems may be.

LittleHouseOnTheShelf · 08/05/2016 19:51

A normal park or a water park? If it was a normal park, no way but if it was a water park you could have just popped in on the way home and not had the swimming stuff with you.

LittleHouseOnTheShelf · 08/05/2016 19:52

That said (hit post too soon), if I was in that situation the DCs would go in in their underwear - if it's hot enough for the water park it's hot enough for their underwear to dry quickly enough for them to get dressed.

Oysterbabe · 08/05/2016 19:55

It's a normal park but there is s splash pool. We weren't particularly close to it but it's possible they'd been in earlier I guess.

If it's not illegal to be naked in public then why does the naked rambler keep getting sent to prison?

BluePancakes · 08/05/2016 19:59

If it's not illegal to be naked in public then why does the naked rambler keep getting sent to prison?

Because he has an ASBO preventing him from being naked him public; just as teenagers who have an ASBO with a curfew doesn't prevent other people from being out past 10pm, for example.

BluePancakes · 08/05/2016 20:01

(Sorry for the typo, but I hope you see what I mean!)

The exception to that is Scotland, as though they technically have the say law as in England and Wales, it is interpreted differently, so I would not advise anyone being naked in Scotland except for at a specific naturist event/beach.

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2016 20:02

Not sure why legalities come into it TBH. It's how you feel about it.

TutanKaDashian · 08/05/2016 20:02

YANBU. This is completely inappropriate and would make me feel uncomfortable. They can do what they like at home but this is a public place.

BluePancakes · 08/05/2016 20:03

*same law as England as Wales.

Apologies. It's my birthday today, and everyone has just left our BBQ and I've been drinking since lunchtime. I usually am slightly more coherent...

Crispbutty · 08/05/2016 20:05

I asked myself.. if my parents had allowed me to run around naked in a public place, would I, as an adult, be happy with this. No, I wouldnt.

Its also a complete and utter contradiction to any parent who says they dont want a photo of their clothed, unidentifed child on facebook, and frequently post on here about their in laws going against their wishes etc..

Would I rather have had my photo on facebook .. hell yes I would rather than some stranger possibly carrying a naked photo of me around that he was able to take in a public place.

Thats my view.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/05/2016 20:05

I must return to the whole idea of naked children putting you off your picnic.

Is this true? I am married to someone who is exceedingly squeamish - if I say 'frog' at dinner, he can't eat!!!! but even he would be unperturbed by other people's kids running around naked (I think)

Agadooo · 08/05/2016 20:07

Yanbu-Totally unnecessary i'd say -same amount of fun can b had in shorts n no burning or jagging to worry about-not v hygienic for others if sitting on seats or using play equipment-just no need!

MeLittleDuckie · 08/05/2016 20:07

Another one who wouldn't let my kid run around naked in a park, they'd have just as much fun with shorts on. No problem with other people doing it though, it's their decision.

MatthewWrightIsThick · 08/05/2016 20:10

I used to think it was fine and let my DC play in the nuddy when they were little but i think I've changed my mind over the years. I think I'd get them to keep a pair of pant on now if they were in a public place. It's not exactly a problem to do that is it?
