To get a nose and lips job?

Hey everyone,

For the past 16 years I have been very self conscience of the size of my nose and my lips. I have a bulbous tip, and wide nostrils and my lips are huge- people in the past have told me I look like a monkey Sad, so it's that sort of image.

I have no pictures of DS and I together, and I always refuse my friends to take pictures of me. I get self conscience going out in public and talking to people face to face.

The only nice features I have is my eye shapes and I'm worried that if I go ahead with the plastic surgery, my eye shape will change.

Also as I am of Caribbean decent, I'm worried that they are not many surgeons that do more ethnic plastic surgeries.

I feel like my huge nose and lips is having a huge effect on my daily life. What would you guys do? Should I consider plastic surgery?

my eyes did not change when i had my nose job, it just my nose looks more defined. I had a bone moved over at the top and it straightened and the nostrils smaller.
I had it in november last year, as I am ethnic too it is still hard, it takes longer to go down than for someone who is Caucasian

I haven't read all the way through, I got as far as the mention of Michaela Coel.

OP, she is mesmerisingly^^ lovely.
She's not standard 'pretty by numbers' at all but she is beautiful.

Obviously if you are really upset with how you look then look into tweaks etc, I've had a couple of nips & tucks myself - but please make sure it's for you & only you, not for anyone else.

I think you should have some subtle work done on your nose if it's affecting your daily life. Lips - no. It seems a much harder part of the face to change successfully. I'm Shock for you that anyone said you looked like a monkey.

Sunshinegirl2 · 07/05/2016 18:44

Thanks all for your replies Smile

And what is the best approach to go subtle with my nose?

And when I look out for surgeons, what are the things that I should look out for?

Do of research re finding a surgeon. Recommendations are a good way to go.

With regard to what you want it's best not to listen to others but discuss it with the surgeon. Everyone is unique and what works for one person won't necessarily work for you . What one person seems to be subtle may not fit with what you want to achieve.

This is fucked up, sorry.

She hates her 'bulbous' nose because its an african nose and african features arent deemed beautiful by the mainstream.

How many of you are black?????

Really awful thread.

TealLove · 07/05/2016 21:01

Make them show you noses like yours they have worked on. This is v important.

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2016 21:19

The only 'awful' part about this thread Adora, is people speaking for the OP, as if she doesn't have a mind of her own.

So if a white person wants to change their nose it's because they don't like it. If a black person wants to do the same thing, it's because they're black? Hmm

Don't be so ridiculous.

AdrenalineFudge · 07/05/2016 21:19

You need to find a surgeon that specialises in African/ black skin (rhinoplasty) as it's very different from your typical Caucasian nose correction i.e. skin texture, thickness etc.

You'll need to prepare for quite a bit of down time as even if you have the surgery the results may not be complete for nearly a year.

Your eyes won't change shape. That's not really likely unless you're having work on them too.

Research, research and more research! Don't go with the one or two clinics you look at, spend a while looking at different clinics and arranging appointments - it'll be free for just a consultation.

Make a look book of those who have similar features to you and those whose features you aspire to have to take along with you to consultations.

I haven't had cosmetic surgery. I am half black and half white and have never really fit in with either race - too black for some - too white for others. I happen to love myself now after quite a few bumps along the way Smile. But do what will make you happy.

chajazam · 07/05/2016 22:07

OP I'm mixed race and have a few black friends that have the same issue/feelings about their nose as you.
I also have family members in the cosmetic surgery industry and this is the one type of surgery they will always try to discourage in black/ethic minority patients as the expertise in this country just isn't here ( they fear patients will be unhappy and need corrections)
If you are really unhappy I would suggest counselling and if you are still really determined to proceed I suggest you find a US based surgeon with the right background. None of the friends I have in the cosmetic surgery industry would have rhinoplasty of the type you need in the UK- it's a really tricky operation. Far more than just shaving a bump down, it needs artistry and a lot of experience, please think seriously about it.
