Why do they think it's such big news? I'm sure if you live in Scotland then it's interesting. But as 92% of the UK don't live there, why go on and on about it? It's the second time today I've had to turn the news off because I was so bored by it.

OP posts:

Love, you're just coming over as a bit thick now. I studied politics at uni; UK, Spanish, African and Russian politics. 99% of what I learned isn't useful to me now or necessary to my daily life but knowledge is never a bad thing. Is it?

Lightbulbon · 06/05/2016 23:07

Op's like this are one of the reasons why we had today's SNP victory.

Scotland isn't seen as important to many in ruk. No wonder we want a party that prioritises us.

savasanaaa · 06/05/2016 23:30

YABU. Not sure your argument about there being less people in Scotland than London works very well. Would you apply the same principle to other minority groups? There are less X people than Y people, therefore we shouldn't have to hear about X events?
I don't give a shit about a lot of the English based news I hear, but elections are pretty important Biscuit

Littleallovertheshop · 06/05/2016 23:34

Welcome to our world. We have to suffer endless English news and content which has little relevance to us even to the extent where the press fails to point out when an issue is devolved.

Brokenbiscuit · 06/05/2016 23:44

What a very odd OP. Confused

What happens in Scotland has very real significance for the rest of the UK, but even if it didn't, a significant sub-section of the BBC's audience is based in Scotland and their interests should of course be catered for.

I don't live in London or Scotland, but I'm very interested in the election results for both, and I expect to see the BBC cover this. Likewise, I expect them to cover the US presidential race, which is of global significance.

If you're not interested in what's going on in the wider world, then listen to your local radio station or something, but please don't expect the rest of us to be so parochial.

2rebecca · 06/05/2016 23:49

What an ignorant post. The BBC is supposed to cover the whole of the UK. All of these elections only affected the 4 separate countries that make up the UK. Why is the Scottish stuff any less relevant than the English, Welsh or NI Stuff?
Are you really Nicola in disguise trying to pretend that Scotland shouldn't be in the UK and the BBC should be an English channel for English people?
Turn it off or tune in to local radio if you're bored. I had radio Scotland on last night because I was only interested in the Scottish stuff.

Mari50 · 06/05/2016 23:52

YABU simply because the collapse of labour has a devastating effect on British politics, without the Scottish labour vote, labour has no chance of a general election win.
And YABU because in Scotland we are subjected to lots of media time wrt London mayoral election which doesn't affect us as much. Also currently we are being bombarded with reports about the American election- well to be fair Scottish policies probably has a lot more to do with daily life than the USA.
I get that English voters don't get why we are a bunch of resentful disgruntled bastards but we are, you have to live up north to realise why it doesn't work.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 06/05/2016 23:55

it's fine to be sick of the bbc covering the SNP.....after all I am fed up with the news banging on about the junior doctors strikes because where I live (Scotland) they're not striking

but labours result in Scotland feeds into a national picture about the decline of the party across the UK. it also tells a story about how Scottish politics has changed over the last decade so that the main divide is no longer about class or left/right politics but along constitutional lines

but of course the future of the UK is not something the BBC should be bothering to tell you about, so no yanbu

GipsyDanger · 06/05/2016 23:59
Biscuit
LagunaBubbles · 07/05/2016 00:16

And there in a nutshell is someone displaying a "couldn't care less about Scotland" attitude, highlighting why independence would have been a good thing.

LagunaBubbles · 07/05/2016 00:23

And the clue is in the name OP - BBC....the B stand for British and Scotland are still part of Britain.

HeddaGarbled · 07/05/2016 00:29

It's hugely significant because of the devolution issue.

I find your OP ignorant, insular and offensive.

I am English but I am not only interested in what happens in England.

Are you annoyed when the BBC reports events in France, America, Africa? Or do you just hate Scottish people? Do you think you may be a racist?

AdjustableWench · 07/05/2016 00:45

YABU. Even my 11 year-old has more political sense than this. The SNP has made history with this result and it will have an impact on the rest of the UK (as well as the people of Scotland of course).

Behooven · 07/05/2016 00:53

You should e-mail them and complain in the strongest terms..
Dear British English Broadcasting Corporation, I want to hear more about Leceister winning the English Premier League, it's hardly been mentioned this week and what could possibly be more important, oh and more about the Academy proposal for English schools - that should be of interest nationally!

Biscuit

Behooven · 07/05/2016 00:55

And I said that as a non-SNP follower btw.

glasgowlass · 07/05/2016 01:00

Fuck me what a pile of ignorant shite OP. 👏👏👏

AgentProvocateur · 07/05/2016 02:13

I think this gets the award for most dickish post of the day. Are people really so ignorant and parochial as the OP?

MidniteScribbler · 07/05/2016 02:51

You do know that it's possible to just switch the television off if the news doesn't fit with your narrow little world view?

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/05/2016 07:33

Depending on what's happened that day then the news will focus on different parts of the UK at different times. It's not going to be evenly proportioned every day or it would be seriously weird. Frequently the main news stories won't have anything about Scotland or often even relevant - few weeks ago the lead story was all schools becoming academies which is of zero relevance to Scotland but that's life.

Suck it up buttercup

meditrina · 07/05/2016 07:49

I'm just a little bemused that all the coverage was about 'gosh the Tories did better than Labour all over Scotland' as if this was new. They came second in nearly every constituency in Scotland in the last election.

That isn't often mentioned as it doesn't chime with the 'nasty' rhetoric nor the idea there are no Tories in Scotland making Westminster unrepresentative.

Coverage does tend to reflect when events happen too. And the London Mayor result was much later in the day than those of the devolved assemblies.

readytorage · 07/05/2016 07:57

Woooooooohoooooooo mo majority! I'm in Scotland I can't stand Sturgeon or the SNP!

readytorage · 07/05/2016 07:57

*no

pippishortstockings · 07/05/2016 08:30

The BBC is usually Londoncentric-so it makes a welcome change to see them cover the whole of the UK.
However the cynic in me says that the media expected/hoped for Labour to do badly. As Scotland is the place where they did worse they are putting a lot of focus on that.

They also seem to be trying to put the most negative spin on Labour's performance elsewhere.

Take note BBC. Scotland is different. Labour didn't do badly because Jeremy Corbyn and the left are disliked but because people who are distressed by the inequality in society voted SNP.

MrsJayy · 07/05/2016 08:34

Well i am sick of hearing about the state of english education and stats about academies sooo you know you just have to put up with all uk news anyway it all been about Ruth Davidson since yesterday

SeaWitchly · 07/05/2016 08:41

Agree with you Pippi.
