re. DD's injury -blood in knickers

DD is 10. She fell off the trampoline a couple of hours ago and landed hard on her bum, one leg up in the air. (Net velcro gave way.)

Anyway, she cried and said it really hurt her bum (for about 30 seconds), then got up and said she was fine. I suggested she (and her friend who's sleeping over) went inside and played quietly for a bit before dinner.

About half an hour after the fall, she went to the loo and found blood in her knickers. Not loads but more than a drop. It wasn't bleeding any more -she wiped with some loo roll and there was nothing there but she said she didn't need to wee any more and still hasn't been.
I've looked and can't see any visible cuts or bruises so hard to know exactly where the blood came from.

She's absolutely fine in herself, says it doesn't hurt at all and has no tummy pain.
I decided to keep an eye on her, check her wee for blood when she goes and see how she is tomorrow.

However I'm a bit churned up and wondering if I should have taken her to a doctor to get checked out? My rational side says she's fine and the bleed was minor and stopped by itself but my anxious mum side won't calm down.

Another vote for hymen. I fell off a table at about 9 with one leg up and one down and mine went. Was taken to A&E because my dad freaked out. They confirmed it was a fairly common thing to happen.

Happened to me on a bike too - fell heavily on the crossbar and it was absolute agony. I bled for a while and it really freaked me out! First time sex was easy though!

Your poor daughter op, I can feel her pain !

I fell on a crossbar too when I was ten, I was black and blue and in agony for a week after! My Mum was wanting to take me to the Doctors but I refused, so I was given a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel 😂

I remember my husband being a bit shocked after our first time that I didn't bleed, it hurt like heck though and for ages afterwards. Thinking about it I don't think mine broke completely, I'm sure it took several goes lol. I remember my Mum clapping eyes on me afterwards and giving me Motherly advice. I had to stop her from telling my husband off for being rough with me 😨.

Another 'broke my hyman horse riding' here. I was 11 so assumed it was period starting, it wasn't, that didn't start for another year.

Also it's worth noting the hyman doesn't really 'break', just gets stretched. It never completely covers the entrance there's always a gap in it (to let fluids out, the vagina is self cleaning) the pain when having first intercourse for example is it being stretched open and probably tearing, but not really snapping. It's also always there, if you go a looong time not putting anything in there it can close up again.

mummyto2monkeys sorry but your story about your husband being shocked made me feel a bit ill.

So, DD seems right as rain this morning so (despite my sleepless night of worry that I shouldn't be relying on an internet forum for my child's well-being Wink) it seems like the general mumsnet consensus was probably right.

Hymen happened to a friend of mine too, again think it was horse riding; she thought it was rather an advantage when she became sexually active Wink

Mummy2 - I don't know what to say. Sorry to hear your first sex was painful.

My papa used to train racehorses and I could ride a horse before I could walk,so when I was old enough to know what it was I always assumed my hymen had broken already.

Got quite the shock first time I had sex.
