There is a sign on the door of my GP surgery that says:
"Please do not post samples through the letterbox".

Grin

I just keep wondering if there's a story behind it? Presumably someone has actually posted urine/stool samples through after hours (who does that?). Has someone trodden in them?

Or perhaps someone posted a dog turd through (one only needs to read the reviews to know which GP that'd be aimed at...) and they are being super polite or naive referring to it as a "sample"?

Is it just me? I had to sit there in the waiting room trying not to laugh out loud, which made it worse...

Has anyone seen the sign outside the White Hart Inn in Edinburgh?

Grin I have a good one too. I'll need to go and take a photo!

I know it's not a sign. But this thread reminded me of

"Also, one in work kitchen
These microwaves are only to be used to prepare food.

These notices went up about a month ago. I'd love to know what someone put in a microwave to trigger these."

Admittedly this was not at work, but my dh once used our microwave to heat his shoe polish (dbil was in the Coldstream Guards, and taught him this was a good way to get a really good shine) - the polish caught fire, and we had to call the fire brigade - who had a really good laugh at his expense!

Oh that Matalan photo is priceless!
Do you think the staff did it?
Do you think they go in every morning with a new message to spell out?!!

IfTheCapFitsWearIt · 06/05/2016 12:59

I like to think it was some disgruntled, worker who'd been hen pecked by a superior about the stock been perfectly straight or something.Grin

:o MammaTJ - that's brilliant

The building I used to work in had a lovely café on the ground floor.

I went downstairs one lunchtime to get some soup, to find it locked with a handwritten sign on the door that read 'CLOSED DUE TO A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT'.

Now, I don't know what happened, I was too shy to ask when the owner came back. But did he pause, after the horrible accident, to write the sign? Or did he run out, shouting to the building receptionist 'I'm going to have to go, there's been a horrible accident!' and she improvised...?

Andrewofgg · 06/05/2016 13:37

Is it true that there is a maternity ward with a sign on the door saying

PUSH PUSH PUSH

or is it an urban myth?

originalmavis · 06/05/2016 13:46

Not a sign but in Tate modern shop. There was a whole shelf (hubdreds) of those poseable wooden hands that an artist might use to pose and draw.

Someone had posed every single one giving the finger.

One for MN.

I love the 'sign not in use' one capfits Grin

Bring back That's Life! They were always showing things like these.

One that always makes me laugh is when a booklet page has printing on saying "this page has intentionally been left blank".

TheDropBear · 06/05/2016 19:29

Several signs were put up in my university halls including "only use the kettle to boil water" and "only use the toaster for bread". Apparently someone had been trying to heat soup in the kettle and make scrambled eggs in the toaster Confused

everdene · 06/05/2016 19:38

I saw this years ago in Leeds when Jennifer Lopez had a perfume called 'Still'.

The tag line on the advertising (in bus stops) said 'in the middle of the chaos I am still' and some wag had graffitied 'TALENTLESS' right next to it, so it then said 'in the middle of the chaos I am still talentless!'

ExploraDora · 06/05/2016 20:11

When I worked at a GPs surgery, we had to put up a sign above the samples box saying 'Sample in provided containers ONLY'. This was due to a spate of urine samples in coke bottles and milk bottles, and a poo in a carte d'or ice cream tub.

PestilentialCat · 06/05/2016 20:19

People wee & poo directly into the polythene bag where the sample bottle is supposed to go. Hmm

At one surgery I worked at someone brought a whole, formed, warm turd in a thermos flask which was revolting & also pointless as they no longer had the diarrhoea that was being investigated

bolleauxnouveau · 06/05/2016 20:34

I have spam from my email provider offering to show me how to call 'mom' from my inbox, which was slightly alarming as she's been dead for many years. I knew microsoft were powerful but blimey.

Originalfoogirl · 06/05/2016 22:07

Not really a sign, but our daughter got some craft stuff for her birthday and I couldn't resist it....

ImNotThatGirl · 06/05/2016 22:30

A sign at work says; "please be careful when opening this door as there is a busy coriander." Grin
