There is a sign on the door of my GP surgery that says:
"Please do not post samples through the letterbox".

Grin

I just keep wondering if there's a story behind it? Presumably someone has actually posted urine/stool samples through after hours (who does that?). Has someone trodden in them?

Or perhaps someone posted a dog turd through (one only needs to read the reviews to know which GP that'd be aimed at...) and they are being super polite or naive referring to it as a "sample"?

Is it just me? I had to sit there in the waiting room trying not to laugh out loud, which made it worse...

Violet that's hilarious!
I have a funny but not a sign story. Our local, urban website has a thread about wildlife- mainly birds and some escaped turtles etc.
Someone posted the following

'Anyone know what this bird is called? Is it a heron?
Was walking slowly amongst the bushes around a park pond.'

I'll wait before I post the picture so you get the joy of thinking about herons and then looking at the photo...

The elections yesterday reminded me of this... Sound advice for voters!

One that gave me a giggle was 'Mortlake Crematorium and Recycling Centre.'

Helenluvsrob · 06/05/2016 09:32

I thought I was alone. I have a terrible attack of giggles at things like " this door must remain closed at all times " ( how the blazes to I get in?) and especially the " forgotten your memorable information?" .

The latest was was at dads funeral " X crematorium. Smokers please use the shelter " . Does no one else have an inappropriate snigger at that

I used to work for a company that sold specialist incontinence equipment. Customers would regularly send soiled pads back to us if they felt there was a problem with the product.

From the kingdom of Swaziland (btw the sign is quite far along the road: if you're a cyclist you're already doomed)

Ah we had to put a sign like the OPs up on the door by the letterbox of the GP surgery where I worked.

We had a dedicated sample bin for people to drop them in to, which was lined and waterproof and clearly labelled "SAMPLES ONLY". We didn't want samples dropping through the normal letterbox as they often leaked as people didn't do them up properly, So our surgery post would be all soggy and unreadable, blurgh.

FruStefanOla · 06/05/2016 10:12

Not seen by me, but a friend told me, a few snowy Winters ago, that on the grit bin that had been placed by the council at the end of his road someone had added the word 'true' before the word 'grit'.

In Chester zoo there is a sign near one of the habitats for small monkeys that says "please do not emulate the monkeys behaviour or security will be called" or something to that effect. As we were walking past a few of them were masturbating. I wasn't sure weather to find it hilarious or worrying! - surely there must have been an incident to need the sign!!

Moreisnnogedag · 06/05/2016 10:44

Ah Chester zoo - there's also a lovely juxtaposition of signs by one of the playgrounds with one showing the name 'squirrel climb' and immediately below it on the fence 'do not climb'!

My local hospital carpark machine says that - I may have given it secret 'Power to the people' salute when in a particularly devilish mood!

AskingForAPal · 06/05/2016 11:03

Our microwave at work isn't to be left unattended either. I think it gets lonely :(

More than once I've seen signs along the lines of "Sanitary bins - emptied periodically".

Pinkheart5915 · 06/05/2016 11:09

Local train station sign
" please stand behind the yellow line or you may be sucked off"

GerundTheBehemoth · 06/05/2016 11:16

These are fab Grin

I noticed this one on a lovely remote beach on the Isle of Lewis.

Too many good ones to single out. Another person glad of the laughs, thank you !

AllThingsNautical · 06/05/2016 11:21

I used to go past a car wash which advertised 'Widows washed inside and out'. I think they were missing a crucial 'n'!

redexpat · 06/05/2016 11:35

Not quite in keeping with the thread but there's a road sign in Norfolk that reads slow you down! I like a bit of Norfolk humour.

FadedRed · 06/05/2016 11:39

Back in the day before smoking was demonised, there were notices above the works changing room washbasin, put there by the housekeeping supervisor, saying 'Do not put cigarette ends down this sink'. Underneath was added 'because it makes them soggy and difficult to light'.

sashh · 06/05/2016 11:41

On the M6 toll there are loads of signs which have a small sign attached, the small sign says 'sign not in use' but I don't know which sign it is referring to.

Dancergirl · 06/05/2016 11:43

These are brilliant!

I saw one that made me chuckle yesterday at my local polling station (primary school): 'children are not allowed in this cupboard'.

It was a very small cupboard.
