To think that Rachel should've ended up with Joey

Ross with Charlie,
Phoebe with David,
Monica with Richard
And Chandler with Janice

because they made more sense together?

Mike was one of the few additional characters that seemed to fit naturally with the whole ensemble, so on that basis I'll let him have irritating Phoebe (Paul Rudd definitely has that extra something special). Monica & Chandler worked as a believable couple. I think it was always inevitable that Ross & Rachel would be together at the end as a large premise of the entire show, whether they were or weren't together, was that they were meant to be. Joey & Rachel had no chemistry, although on paper equally the hottest & (in character) most shallow of the bunch, so they should've worked, but didn't IMO

Bogeyface · 05/05/2016 00:06

When I saw him on Graham Norton with his beard I went a bit lustfiilled quiet and H asked what was up and I said that I had just thinking about DD's uni finance forms and "oh...who is on GN this week?" :o

ShowOfHands · 05/05/2016 11:07

"And when her dad had a heart attack"

That was one of his good moments?! When he turned down sex with Rachel and then claimed he deserved a medal because he hadn't had sex for months? Poor Ross and his blue balls forced to refuse sex because his FRIEND is vulnerable and scared.

Nope. Ross doesn't have good moments. He has overblown grand gestures in order to poorly disguise his sexist, abusive, controlling MO.

GingerLDN · 05/05/2016 13:06

Ross and Rachel, Monica and Richard, Phoebe and David. Joey and Chandler to live together with chicks and ducks always.

Wannabestepfordwife · 05/05/2016 13:28

Yanbu I love the armchair scene!

She should not have ended up with Ross he was controlling and would you really want to be with a man who'd had a fling with your sister

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 05/05/2016 13:33

TBF he didn't have a fling with her sister, and did manage to take his tongue out her throat!

But yeah he was massively controlling. Red flags all over the place.

Maybe he should have ended up with Janice so they could out whine each other!

They had a terrible relationship that didn't work and just because you were madly at love at one point when you were 22 or whatever doesn't mean you need to keep trying to glue yourselves back together.

Oh yes, this!

Ross was such a massive controlling arsehole. Frankly, I think Carol had the right idea. Rachel should have left him for a happy, single life. Chandler and Joey should have admitted there was more to the bromance than 90s TV would allow, and Monica and Janice should have bonded over the trauma of dating Chandler.

Phoebe, however, is resolutely straight and would end up a soccer mom in the suburbs pretending she spent her 20s doing Martha Stewart parties and nursing her dying grandmother.

IAmBumblebee · 05/05/2016 20:38

Devil's advocate...

Ross and Carol!

scarletmonkey · 05/05/2016 21:18

I sometimes wonder what Ross and Rachel actually had in common. What did they talk about? They had no shared interests at all.

Pixienott0005 · 05/05/2016 21:21

Disagree. Rachel and Joey made a really poor storyline in my opinion, I wasn't a fan.

I think they all ended up in the best place for the characters. Except for phoebe and Mike, you're right it should've been David.

summerdreams · 05/05/2016 21:27

Yes to Joey and Rachel but no to the rest.

CreepingDogFart · 05/05/2016 21:30

Phoebe and Mike

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 05/05/2016 22:42

Phoebe, however, is resolutely straight and would end up a soccer mom in the suburbs

I can't remember the thread but someone raised the idea of Phoebe being a bit of a psychopath despite hippy exterior. I was a bit Confused but now I can kind of see it. She was quite mean to most of them and very big headed and lacking in empathy..

A possibility I'm overthinking Blush

I hate phoebe, she was horrible, especially to chandler.

mumoseven · 05/05/2016 22:49

God I loathe Rachel. Everything always had to be about her, spoiled Ross and whatsits wedding, announced her pregnancy, spoiled Monica's wedding or engagement, the fucking mememe dogwhistle.
And Joey was a total sleazebag

bumbleymummy · 05/05/2016 22:50

Nooooo! I hated the whole joey Rachel thing! It made me cringe the whole time!

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 06/05/2016 12:52

Just been researching the DVDs set. I can't believe the amount of scenes that weren't shown on Tv. Has anyone else noticed that? Anyway, That sales assistant hitting on Ross in front of Rachel was a bitch though. Also turning up at his home and acting all brazen and shit... Yeah Rachel should have tit punched her.

Also is Rachel's family Jewish? I say yes but dh says no.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 06/05/2016 12:58

Rewatching not researching.

After Joeys Freud play the episode normally ends with Monica in bed fretting about leaving her shoes in the living room "haphazardly" while the credits roll. On the dvd that's the last scene. During the credits all of them are sat quietly in the living room and Rachel starts singing "All you want is a tinkle..." and they all join in. Joey is embarrassed but then joins in.

GoldPlatedBacon · 06/05/2016 13:06

Phoebe was meant to be with David.

Love the idea of Joey and Erica!

NickiFury · 06/05/2016 13:23

Yes Rachel's family are Jewish.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 06/05/2016 18:50

Noooooo! Ross and Monica are Jewish

OP posts:
Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 06/05/2016 18:51

Supposably

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 07/05/2016 00:56

I thought that the Gellers where Jewish because Ross said something about teaching Ben about Hanukka in on of the Xmas episodes.....possibly the one with the Hanukka Armadillo but I could have got that mixed up with a different episode.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 07/05/2016 01:02

Ok I just found this charming website. www.jewornotjew.com/profile.jsp?ID=471

CherryPicking · 07/05/2016 01:08

Phoebe and Mike were absolutely hilarious and perfect for each other. Love Paul Rudd's deadpan humour.

Monica and Chandler worked well, and managed to make a ltr look like fun - quite an achievement for any sitcom.

Didn't really care enough about any of the other characters to give a shit.
