to wonder why on earth HQ chose a mahoosive photo of a baby with pierced ears to head the new home page?

Confused

I can't think of a single topic which has caused more bun fighting on here than baby ear piercing. The vast majority (I'd guess at least 80% ??) of Mumsnetters have really strong feelings against this practice.

What an odd choice!

Seriously?! Personally I don't like pierced ears on babies but to avoid using pictures of babies with them is ridiculous.

miaowmix · 04/05/2016 14:52

I think it's a lovely picture too (one of the ones who doesn't give a toss about pierced ears either way here, as I suspect most people are in real life. Certainly none of my friends have ever even mentioned this subject).

crystalgall · 04/05/2016 14:57

So you're going to take it down because a few posters don't like it?
That's a bit of a hasty call isn't it?
Pretty sure anyone can find offence with whatever picture you put up. Not sure why you have to bow to pressure.

Blossom591 · 04/05/2016 15:00

Yabu it's just a baby

bibbitybobbityyhat · 04/05/2016 15:03

Where does it say they are taking the photo down because of this thread? I seriously doubt that! I started loads of threads about the hugely annoying dog & spaghetti/woman shaving her face/pregnant woman drinking water photos and they were roundly ignored for fecking years!

OP posts:
ImNotThatGirl · 04/05/2016 15:05

It's not offensive, HQ. That baby is gorgeous. So chubby and scrummy! I wouldn't have noticed her earrings tbh.

NonnoMum · 04/05/2016 15:07

I thought the first birthday pics of gorgeous Princess Charls would have been vastly improved by some good studs. Or even better, dangly sleepers...

JohnCheese · 04/05/2016 15:16

That is a seriously gorgeous baby.

Don't like absolutely hate earrings in babies too, but maybe you could say MN was being culturally inclusive??

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 04/05/2016 15:17

Fucking. Hell. Fire

can't believe this thread

blindsider · 04/05/2016 15:19

I can't see the baby pic, but I am horribly judgemental and baby's with pierced ears always made me shudder (a bit like sovereign rings)

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2016 15:38

I can't help thinking if the posters commenting about cultural inclusivity would say the same thing if the baby was white working class?

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2016 15:47

How can you tell if a baby is working class?

MadameDePompom · 04/05/2016 15:48

No idea Confused

MadameDePompom · 04/05/2016 15:49

They play Knees Up Mother Brown on the old joanna?

splendide · 04/05/2016 15:50

flat cap obviously

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2016 15:56

Cute!

to wonder why on earth HQ chose a mahoosive photo of a baby with pierced ears to head the new home page?
SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 04/05/2016 15:58

Because the baby will be eating an eel pie obviously.

Bimberley · 04/05/2016 16:09

So because she has her ears pierced, it should be taken down?
Wow!

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2016 16:11

Who is asking for it to be taken down? Confused

neonrainbow · 04/05/2016 16:28

As if most of mumsnet want piercing babies ears to be illegal! Prove that stupid statement -oh yeah you can't other that at all! And that is because everyone who realises that someone getting a baby's ears pierced is nothing to do with them will avoid the batshit baby ear piercing thread and it just attracts people who thinkthink its child abuse, and that their opinion is the only one!

GiraffesAndButterflies · 04/05/2016 16:34

Can just imagine the swearing going on at MNHQ now. They can't win Grin

Have some Gin, HQ!!

SeeYouTomorrow · 04/05/2016 16:55

What a seriously crap thread. I'm nto surprised though, particularly after seeing the 'right on' post upthread.

I can't help thinking if the posters commenting about cultural inclusivity would say the same thing if the baby was white working class?
Maybe you should take a break from thinking.

OP, 80% of people who respond to a thread is not 80% of mumsnetters.

MNHQ, the photo is not offensive. Are you updating the image because you were due to anyway, or are you updating because they made you?

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2016 16:59

Please replace it with my flat cap working class baby picture. Grin

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 04/05/2016 17:01

Well if HQ are intending to avoid the giving of 'offence' for ever more that's going to leave a fairly small section of the pie chart with which to work isn't it? I suppose we'll all be happy when all of the babies featured are boys wearing tutus and pink glitter headbands and all girls below the age of 20 are unpierced, playing with Action Men and wearing non-gender specific dungarees? Hmm

MissMoo22 · 04/05/2016 17:01

The photo isn't offensive. To remove it because of the earrings IS offensive.
