To have missed the fact that the spelling of the word 'pyjamas' recently changed?

To 'pajamas'?! Wtf? I know there are some things that people notoriously get wrong, the usual 'chester draws', 'defiantly' (definitely) and even 'rest bite' (respite)! But 'pajamas' seems to be a new one or have I just missed it for years?! I've even seen it on printed mugs etc recently! Aaargh!

And breathe...Grin

I'd say pah-jah-mahs (if autocorrect will allow me!) spelled pyjamas. I'm Irish.

wantmorenow · 02/05/2016 22:40

sulphur got changed to sulfur.....not in my bloody classroom and I will embrace the change.

wantmorenow · 02/05/2016 22:41

cross out fail :-(

Catzpyjamas · 02/05/2016 22:42

Mine definitely have a "y" Wink

Trunkadunk · 02/05/2016 22:45

Surely rest bite is just a predictive text thing?

Pantah630 · 02/05/2016 22:50

Dorset here....p-jar-mas short p not pur. Spelling pyjamas the correct way too. Wink

Breadandwine · 02/05/2016 22:58

Never mind all that, how do you spell houmous humus hummus?

And how many 'L's are there in 'chilli'?

Grin
MarthaCliffYouCunt · 02/05/2016 23:02

pur-jar-mers

Thats fucking painful to read.

Pipbin · 02/05/2016 23:14

I would pronounce it like that, Martha. But as I'm southern I wouldn't really pronounce the rs.

Pur as in purse, jar as in ... jar, mur like mer in meringue.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/05/2016 23:16

It hasn't on my new next jimjams downstairs.

Ludways · 02/05/2016 23:19

I did a lot of growing up both sides of t'atlantic so quite often get confused as to which way I should be spelling things. I mostly go English but have been known to go US English on occasion.

I found myself spelling them pajamas until I saw dh write it as pyjamas and I had this lightbulb moment that if grown up spelling it with a y but had inadvertently changed. I have changed back toot sweet!

Interestingly, my iPhone underlines pajamas in red but not pyjamas, so it agrees with me!

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/05/2016 23:22

Fuck off the lot of you.

It's jim jams.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 02/05/2016 23:22

It pisses me off but I don't pretend to be confused by it. People spell words incorrectly and pick up American spellings. We all know it. It's a pain but hey ho!

Surprised why Maryz? Shock

kennypppppppp · 02/05/2016 23:29

or they could be changed to be called a twosie (i.e a onesie in two bits).

pyjamas always make me itchy as i think i'll get thrush if i wear them. tmi and it's too late for me to care

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/05/2016 23:31

Thrush. I call them jimjams although I can't sing 'bananas in jimjams' so they have to be pyjamas.

DawgDawg · 02/05/2016 23:31

Pur Ja Mers is how I say it.

EmmaGellerGreen · 02/05/2016 23:33

Toot sweet? Is that a thing now as well Ludways?

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/05/2016 23:40
