To mourn the demise of the colourful bathroom.

When I was little, I always wanted to buy colourful loo paper to clash with go in the bathroom (beigey-green coloured suite, possibly avocado, my memory is a bit hazy). My mum refused, as it was "common" to have coloured paper, and would only ever buy white.
My mum did say that when I was grown up and had my own bathroom, I could choose whatever coloured paper I wanted.

Well here I am, all grown up with my own house, 2 DC of my own, and I can't indulge my inner child DC by buying green paper one week, pink the next, blue the next etc. We can only choose white or tasteful cream, or buff paper enriched with cocoa and shea butter, and where's the fun in that?

AIBU to secretly crave a return to the days of the coloured bathroom suite and matching loo paper?

I have a really foul faux marble acrylic bath in varying shades of beige/light brown.

Make me an offer.

tethersend · 30/04/2016 19:44

I want a red suite with black and red patterned tiles.

As a child, I was in awe of carpeted stairs leading up to the bath. I still am

Loving that link to all the different colours of bathroom suites. I would so love a blue one!
Not sure about the toilet paper in the other link though, think that is a bit too bright for me, pastel is better.

OMG I've just spotted a 1955 yellow art deco sink on the Broken Bog website vintage list. It is beautiful.

Usernamegone · 30/04/2016 19:45

I've got an avocado bathroom suite it's the original one (I think) from when the house was built in the 80's. I swear when it gets ripped out this summer that in a few years time it will be 'vintage'

YourLeftElbow · 30/04/2016 19:46

That's bloody lovely SexLube (May I call you SexLube?) Grin
We had a forget-me-not coloured suite when I was a child- it was lovely.

I like a nice beige or avocado toilet.

Hides the stains....

RaeSkywalker · 30/04/2016 19:52

When I was growing up, we used to have peach in the upstairs bathroom (peach suite) and pink in the downstairs loo (lavender coloured toilet and sink).

I'd love a coloured suite but DH would never allow it.

As a previous poster has said, stock up on Christmas loo roll! I usually get festive loo and kitchen roll in the January sales and stick it in the loft with the decorations.

Costacoffeeplease · 30/04/2016 19:52

We used to have a pale blue suite in our first house in the late 80s - I think they will come back soon too - everything goes in cycles

summerdreams · 30/04/2016 19:52

Do you know looking at some of these they do brighten it up slightly. Im looking forward to when they make a come back.

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 30/04/2016 19:53

Ooh tethersend, my eyes went funny!

MintyChapstick · 30/04/2016 19:54

My grandparents had an avocado green bathroom when I was little. We had an orange/peach coloured one, most bathroom suits now are black, white, grey or cream aren't they? I dare say pastel and bright colours will come back into fashion eventually though.

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2016 19:54

YANBU. Bathrooms are so fecking boring these days.

All neutral whites & greys.

Purple would be awesome.

LunaMay · 30/04/2016 19:57

I've only ever seen one coloured suite now that I think about it. My nan had a pale pink one at some point. I've never seen coloured loo roll but I have always wanted to get the sudoku ones I've seen on eBay....

Coloured bog roll gives me horrendous thrush.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/04/2016 20:02

I have a soft spot for coloured bathroom suites, I must admit. It's the 70's child in me!

I rented a room once in a place with a huge sunken avocado bath. It was fabulous apart from the he fact it was a shared bathroom and the house was full of very unsavoury types!

We had a Avocado as kids which was then replaced with peach shells. The sink had a scallop pattern as did the loo seat and bath panel. Always had toilet roll to match.

MrTumbleOnRepeat · 30/04/2016 20:02

The walls in my bathroom are painted plum and the showcurtain matches. Also have a stripy loo seat in purple, green and grey. I did have spotty look roll at one point but it was too expensive so now stuck with plain white

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 30/04/2016 20:03

My [80 year old] friend has the most amazing, vivid turquoise suite. It is gorgeous, looks like new, and on many occasions I have told her I want it and she is never ever allowed to get rid.

We have maroon - I quite like it, but it is a bastard for showing up dust, and I own lots of dust.

When the bath split I thought we were fucked, and we'd have to either go all white (ugh!), have a white bath and leave the rest maroon (double ugh) or pay over £300 for a 'reclaimed' bath (faint). I searched for a few weeks, with us showering up one end of a gaffer taped bath, until my luck finally changed - new old stock maroon bath on eBay - £85 all in. Result!

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 30/04/2016 20:05

I have purple walls and a bright green loo seat. Pink floor. Love it.

I no longer buy coloured toilet roll because they don't sell it any more for environmental reasons Grin

BennyTheBall · 30/04/2016 20:05

God no - horrific.

In my line of work, I see many an avocado suite in a skip.

LunaMay · 30/04/2016 20:07

Ok a bit off topic but looking at the photos shared here, is it common for baths to have handles? Never seen that before, I'm not in uk though

JaceLancs · 30/04/2016 20:08

We have a burgundy bathroom suite - can't afford to replace so have toned it down with other colours
Goes surprisingly well with apple green and cream and floral cottagey accessories
Loo roll is usually cream coloured here as not keen on white

I thought this was going to be another thread about Camila Batmanghelidjh. (The word "bathroom" didn't show up on the 'Trending' list.)
