to think that women who are a size 6/8/10 are permanently on a diet?

I don't mean diet as in counting every calorie, but diet as in they hardly eat any carbs and don't eat cakes, biscuits etc more than a couple of times a year? I am not a thin person (you guessed?) and I look at what my really slim female colleagues eat and it's salads with no carbs and just a tiny bit of protein, or soup or smoothies. Is that what it takes to be a thin person?

WorraLiberty I agree. Eating when not hungry is a huge issue for many. Eating only when truly hungry gets half of the job done RE losing wieght and lifestyle change.

Enjoyingthepeace · 30/04/2016 17:28

I actually never get 'hungry'. So when I do eat, I'm able to make very considered decisions about what I'm going to eat. So rather than wolfing something down because quick and available,I will take the time to steam some veg, grill salmon, oven bake chicken.

Sirona · 30/04/2016 17:29

Grin I lived on carbs and junk food and was a size 8 throughout my life but I've always walked a lot. Side effect of not driving and having a lab. I'm also fidgety.

I only moved up to a size 10 since exercising a lot and reassessing my diet to include more protein and veggies and cutting down the amount of cakes, wine etc. Maybe it's muscle hope so?

Maybe your focus should be on activity rather than food op? My lunch would probably be more susage roll in bread and butter than salad tbh.

thenappyslayer · 30/04/2016 17:30

This reminds me of a time when I told a friend that a portion of chips was a meal and not a snack. It didn't go down well.

Dying.

herethereandeverywhere · 30/04/2016 17:31

When I was a 6-8/8-10 my diet was really restricted. I never ate breakfast, I never ate a biscuit/snack/piece of cake with a cup of tea. I never ate fried food.

Monday-Friday (workdays) I had a calories controlled sandwich for lunch and a calorie controlled microwave meal in the evening. That was it. I drank a large coffee for breakfast and water or diet soft drinks the rest of the time.

If I ate anything else I gained weight so I'd pull back to that eating regime to drop pounds before a holiday or 'special' occasion.

I'm now a size 10-12 (a heavy 12 around my hips). I'm about a stone heavier than my 'holiday weight' of my 20s. I eat whatever I want whenever I want and have learnt to dress to compensate for the bulging.

SpringHasNearlySprung · 30/04/2016 17:33

I'm a size 8. I eat three meals a day and don't snack (I never think about snacking tbh) I do a lot of exercise though. I never diet and eat what I like.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/04/2016 17:34

"I certainly wouldn't eat just to 'refuel my body' because the clock says it's a certain time and I never have. I listen to my body and only eat if I'm hungry."

That doesn't work for me. If I miss dinner because I'm not hungry, I'll be especially hungry the next day and probably have unhealthy snacks. I find it much easier to try to keep to meal times.

BertieBeats · 30/04/2016 17:35

I'm a size 8 and currently digging into a KFC Wicked Zinger Tower meal Grin I tend to have a large lunch and dinner last, maybe picking in between. But ,what I consider big is probably smaller for a bigger person. I love food but can easily miss a meal if I'm busy ,my life doesn't revolve around it.

Enjoyingthepeace · 30/04/2016 17:36

Me too gwen

It is what myself and majority of friends do (all 6/8).

thenappyslayer · 30/04/2016 17:36

Enjoyingthepeace really ? You've never felt hunger? That's incredible.

Enjoyingthepeace · 30/04/2016 17:36

It's a nice way to live as well

CharlieSierra · 30/04/2016 17:37

Unless you have a metabolic disorder there is no way you need to eat as few as 1000 calories to lose weight. The likelihood is that you are not counting accurately or are eating extras. Actually a sandwich 'with salad' covers a wide range of possibilities. Small bread, just salad may be low calorie but will not fill you up. On the other hand it could have been a bloody great doorstop with butter and mayo - which is too many calories for lunch if you are eating dinner later and trying to lose weight. So altogether it's coming across as a petulant attitude, there is plenty of help out there, there's plenty on this thread, but some folks would rather just moan and blame. Also no one should be feeling really hungry on 3 healthy meals a day, however most of us could find room for a little something we fancy most of the time, it's about recognising the difference.

crazywriter · 30/04/2016 17:37

Sister is a size 6 and has never dieted. Is always eating. She just has one of those metabolism.

TheCatsMeow · 30/04/2016 17:37

I don't eat at set times, I only eat if hungry. Sometimes I skip meals, not intentionally but because I'm not hungry.

Enjoyingthepeace · 30/04/2016 17:38

I have felt hungry of course, say I've been way too busy for lunch, or if my child is sick and literally no chance to eat properly.

But other than the post exercising... I need good food in me. Now! No, I don't ever feel hungry

findingmyfeet12 · 30/04/2016 17:38

I was a size 8 until my 30s. I ate pretty much whatever I wanted and did hardly any exercise.

I'm now in my 30s and a size 12. I eat exactly as I please and still don't exercise. I comfort eat a lot. I eat when I'm upset, bored, depressed, etc.

I don't think you need to be on a diet to be thin. It's not been my experience until I hit my 30s.

magratsflyawayhair · 30/04/2016 17:39

Nope. I'm an 8, always been 6/8 and never dieted, watched what I ate or really cared. If I look at my eating gains I snack rarely, eat smallish portions, and eat a variety of foods. But I don't think about it, it's just how I am.

ScreenshottingIsNotJournalism · 30/04/2016 17:39

I certainly wouldn't eat just to 'refuel my body' because the clock says it's a certain time and I never have

I always do. I never feel like breakfast, but I always eat it because I know how shit I'll feel later if I don't.

I'ld rather shovel in my breakie when I'm not quite awake enough to want it than feel starving and crave crap at work by 10am. If I eat my breakfast (which always includes protein) I'm not hungry until my lunch break. If I don't eat breakfast I'm ravenous by mid morning and absolutely starving by lunch and then I drink too much coffee too..

Muskateersmummy · 30/04/2016 17:39

Not read the full thread but nope, I'm a size 8. I'm careful but still enjoy cakes, chocolate and have carbs every day.

Enjoyingthepeace · 30/04/2016 17:40

And 35 with two children.... Here's my tum!

DollyDilly · 30/04/2016 17:41

I haven't got the time to be overweight. I don't know how people have the time once they have kids as you never have chance to sit down!

Small bowl of cereal, followed by avo on toast with granary bread and a large glass of water, and then juice and a cup of tea. And a small skinny hot choc from Costa

Lunch...veg soup, a load of carrot sticks and hounmous, large bowl of natural yoghurt and blueberries with honey. Another coffee and then a tea

An apples and a large bowl of mango

Dinner will be marinated salmon, load of steamed veg followed by natural yoghurt strawberries and honey

Not felt hungry once

TinklyLittleLaugh · 30/04/2016 17:46

My overweight sister complains that I'm always eating. She sees me when I stay at my Mum's a couple of times a year. I'll eat a full English or a Sunday roast and whatever cake or pudding my mum has made for me specially.

But then I'll probably go home and nibble a couple of crackers for dinner, maybe not even feel particularly hungry the next day either.

DollyDilly · 30/04/2016 17:46

I am slimmer than enjoying but I couldn't eat like that. I only really like stodge and I would be literally starving on soup and a small bit of cereal.
