To admit I don't think my baby is cute?

Had an HD scan this morning at 27 weeks.

Baby is all good, still a girl 😂 And weighing 2lb7.

But she looks like me 😩 She has my chin and nose, and she was frowning like her daddy. She didn't had cute chubby cheeks etc like my other two did on theirs.

She looks like she's gurning in every picture 😒
I'm awful aren't I. 😐

My friends baby came out and the mother said "she looked like a baby ape". And until she got a mouth of teeth she really looked like an ape. But she was so cute.

Scans don't give great images .

Savagebeauty · 30/04/2016 13:50

My DD was so unattractive and also miserable. We laugh at her baby photos.
She is now 19 and stunning.

ApocalypseNowt · 30/04/2016 13:50

My DD2 looked like a confused potato for a year or so. She now looks like an absolute doll.

All of those scan photos are creepy though....i've never looked at one of them and thought 'ahhhhh, so cute!'.

Spudlet · 30/04/2016 13:51

I always think those 3D scans make them look like they're melting Grin

I'm sure she'll be gorgeous, especially when she's unsquished!

honeylulu · 30/04/2016 13:53

My first baby was gorgeous. He looked like a persil - advert baby. I did think "we'll I'm sure all mothers think their baby is beautiful". However when I had my daughter she looked like a scrawny baby bird. One of the first things I said (still in shock as she arrived very suddenly and early) was "god she's no looker is she? ".
I felt very ashamed and she did turn out to be a very cute looking toddler (when she's not eating dirt).

To be fair, if you look at babies born prematurely at 27 weeks, they do look more like aliens/bald kittens than 40 week newborns.

And at 3 months old they all look so much cuter than they do at 3 days or so.

FranksBobot · 30/04/2016 13:58

YANBU 4D scans are creepy as can be, not sure any baby can look cute on them.

shoopshoopsong · 30/04/2016 14:00

On my 3D scan there was s Boglin. Luckily what I have birth to was a beautiful baby.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 30/04/2016 14:01

At my last scan with DD I was convinced there was something wrong with her because she looked like a monkey! Her face shape was all weird and out of proportion and... well, like a monkey. I was so upset I had to get the sonographer to reassure me nothing was wrong. Fast forward 13 years and people stop us in the street to say how beautiful she is :) In summary - pay no attention to scans!

Quietattheback · 30/04/2016 14:04

High on morphine I whispered to DD "don't worry baby girl, Mummy doesn't mind that you're ugly, I'll always love you anyway". She was really squished and hairy as a newborn but is 3 now and absolutely stunning (others words not mine). I would still love her just as much even if she still looked squished and hairy though.

Toddzoid · 30/04/2016 14:05

I don't think any newborn is really beautiful. They are to you because they're yours but to outsiders they're just scrunched up aliens. Very rarely think a newborn is cute. They start getting cuter when they come into their own after about 3-4 months. My DS and youngest DD were cute babies but middle DD was not Grin. She's beautiful now but as a baby I think she smiled maybe 4 times in total. She had this constant scowl, it's quite funny now thinking back.

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2016 14:10

I think this thread needs a warning in the title now it contains creepy photos Grin

summerdreams · 30/04/2016 14:29

My son was born at 33 weeks covered in hair and was so yellow he looked orange. A doctor comented he was extremely in proportion head size etc best commemt ever as he looked very odd to me. Blush but by his due date he looked like normal newborn.

ExConstance · 30/04/2016 14:30

I didn't think much of the way DS1 looked for weeks after he was born. I pushed him around in an old fashioned pram with the hood up so no one would see his spotty pasty face. He then became quite beautiful at around 3 months.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 30/04/2016 14:31

I think all babies emerge with a touch of jam covered goblin about them probably. Those scans do creep me out a smidgen though.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/04/2016 14:37

My youngest arrived at 36 weeks, scrawny like the last chicken in the shop, hairy and with the weirdest ears I have ever seen. They were pointy and folded down on themselves, he looked like a malevolent pixie. He also had (still has) massive hands and feet, which without any meat on his bones made him look even odder. Dh said his head was shaped like Kryten from Red Dwarf.
At 2 days old he got jaundiced, which completed the look.
I was aware he was not quite the picturesque little beauty my first child had been, but I loved him so much (still do, the non sleeping little argh of a 2 year old)! I felt very very protective of him and soon stopped noticing all the oddities and when he'd filled out a bit he did get darned cute.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/04/2016 14:41

Weird ears. Was all I could look at for ages!

To admit I don't think my baby is cute?
Kimononono · 30/04/2016 14:43

cigar your discription of him reall made me laugh out and then you posted an adorable picture of him.

I love newborns in white baby grows 🤗

Whathaveilost · 30/04/2016 14:45

DS2 is now 16. He is very tall and all the girls seem to fancy him.
I joke with him a lot and told him that when he was about 6 or 7 months he was an ugly baby. He was just a big round heavy barrel.

At the time I remember thinking 'oh well, I guess it doesn't matter if I have an ugly kid' by the time he was a toddler his hair was white blonde and he was always so happy. He hasn't changed in personality since then, he's always happy and loving and giving me cuddles.
OP! Give your baby chance to be born!!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/04/2016 14:46

You can't see his odd feet in that one, and it's before he went yellow! My dh was skilled in taking flattering shots too!
But look at that ear! Seriously, take a long hard look. The other one was just as bad.

MarthaCliff · 30/04/2016 15:01

Cigars. Did his ears unfold a bit since he was born. One of mine had funny ears but they unfolded with age. He is a strapping 6'4 adult now and still has slightly odd ears but they don't seem to bother him. He is a good looking lad so maybe that detracts from wonky ears. 😂😂

Quietattheback · 30/04/2016 15:01

Oh cigars! He's just adorable. Another sucker for a newborn in a white babygrow

CrapDIL · 30/04/2016 15:03

Cigars Grin that is one cute, slightly strange looking ear Grin

If I'd painted Ds green and dressed him in a hesian sack he would have passed as Yoda
