To demand people keep their dogs away from me on the seafront

TigerPath · 29/04/2016 07:16

I'm sick of random dogs coming up to sniff me and DS or getting under my feet. All dogs make me nervous even small ones. And I hate it when they cock their leg on my pram wheels Angry

So now when a dog comes up to me or just before it reaches me I shout to the owner (politely but firmly) 'please keep your dog away from me/my pram'
Most oblige but a number are rude! Yesterday a woman retorted crossly 'but it's the sea-front'. I replied 'they should be on leads' and got a mouthful of abuse. There is a bloody great sign saying 'dogs should be on leads on the promenade'!! I wouldn't care if people kept them to heel but I don't want them touching me, my pram or tripping me up Angry

AIBU??

I think you're just out for a fight Shining.
I'm guessing you have other issues going on in your life that are making you so argumentative so I'll leave you to it.

WaitrosePigeon · 01/05/2016 22:02

Yes shindig. If you are researching dogs like I did you can find it easily. A well renowned study as above found daschunds followed by chihuahuas followed by Jack Russell's to bite the most. There are plenty of similar studies too

SpringHasNearlySprung · 01/05/2016 22:22

you dog people are just a bit intellectually weak really arent you

Don't feed it people.....

www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-study-dog-attacks-and-maimings-merritt-clifton.php
there doesnt appear to be equivalent date for the UK but this gives an indication of which breeds cause the most harm

Dog Attack Deaths and Maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to December 31, 2014
By compiling U.S. and Canadian press accounts between 1982 and 2014, Merritt Clifton, editor of Animals 24-7, shows the dog breeds most responsible for disfiguring injuries and deaths.1
Download Study
View 32-Year Summary of Pit Bull Trends
Study highlights
The combination of molosser breeds, including pit bulls, rottweilers, presa canarios, cane corsos, mastiffs, dogo argentinos, fila brasieros, sharpeis, boxers, and their mixes, inflict:
86% of attacks that induce bodily harm
81% of attacks to children
89% of attack to adults
76% of attacks that result in fatalities
86% that result in maiming
Embody 9.2%+ of the total dog population
Discussion notes:
Even if the pit bull category was "split four ways," attacks by pit bulls and their closest relatives would still outnumber attacks by any other dog breed.
Pit bulls are noteworthy for attacking adults almost as frequently as children. This is a very rare pattern, only seen elsewhere in the bullmastiff/presa canario line.
If a pit bull or rottweiler has a bad moment, instead of a person being bitten, often a person is maimed for life or killed. This has created off-the-chart actuarial risk.

Here is the full study if you are interested shining. But I doubt you actually want to be educated. Many of those dogs in that study you quote are banned in the UK. That's why there is no equivalent because pit bulls are the majority of that and they are pretty none existent here.. You are statistically more likely to be bitten by a daschunds than a rottie. That is a fact. Additionally the study found that genetics plays a large part in aggression. Fact. But you don't want facts you just want to live in your bubble of ignorance. Good luck in there.

totalrecall1 · 01/05/2016 22:33

Ps the fact that you are highlighting a study which includes known dangerous dogs, and that you Haven't bothered to understand that pit bulls, Dogo argentinos and fila brasseries are banned in the UK gives a good indication of where the lack of intelligence is in my view.

Shining12 · 01/05/2016 22:40

Total I've tried to find data that shows the dog breeds most responsible for disfiguring injuries and deaths in the UK.

However there doesnt seem to be any so I posted data for the US because that was all I could find
obviously it cannot be directly extrapolated to the UK because some of those breeds are not really present in the UK

still it is notable that none of the breeds shown in your link as likely to be aggressive are also the breeds responsible for disfiguring injuries and deaths in the UK

then again it's pretty much a no brainer that the Dachshund hasnt been responsible for any disfiguring injuries or deaths

totalrecall1 · 01/05/2016 22:44

I thought you said there wasn't any data for the UK. Therefore how do you know that?

Shining12 · 01/05/2016 22:44

none of these serious/fatal attacks are Dachshunds

I thought you said there wasn't any data for the UK. Therefore how do you know that

are you saying that Dashunds have killed people in the UK?

Shining12 · 01/05/2016 22:48

Recent deaths caused by dogs have included:
Jade Anderson.
Jade Anderson.
Jade Anderson, 14 – Jade suffered horrific injuries “from head to toe” after being attacked by two bull mastiffs and two Staffordshire bull terriers while alone at a friend’s house in Wigan, Greater Manchester, in March 2013.

No prosecution could be brought under the DDA at the time because the dogs were not banned breeds and were not out of control in a public place.

Clifford Clarke.
Clifford Clarke.
Clifford Clarke, 79 – Clarke was attacked in his garden in Clubmoor, Liverpool by his next-door neighbour’s Presa Canario crossbreed dog, which had not been fed for 45 hours, in May 2013.

Sentencing Clarke’s neighbours – Hayley Sulley, 30, and Della Woods, 29 – to a year each in jail, Judge Mark Brown said Clarke’ was “literally eaten alive”.

Lexi Branson.
Lexi Branson.
Lexi Branson, 4 – Lexi was mauled by her family’s pet bulldog at her mother’s flat in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire in November 2013.

Her mother, Jodi Hudson, was forced to stab the rescue dog, which had been with the family for just two months, with a kitchen knife in an attempt to save her daughter and halt the sustained attack.

Emma Bennett, 27 – Bennett was pregnant when attacked by the family’s two pitbull-type dogs at her home in Leeds in December 2013. She suffered severe injuries to her face and head.

Her partner, Lee Horner, 34, was given a community order and told to do 280 hours of unpaid work after admitting that he owned dogs prohibited by the DDA.

Eliza-Mae Mullane, 6 days – Eliza was killed when she was snatched from her pram by her family’s pet dog at their home in Pontyberem, near Llanelli in south Wales in February last year and suffered serious head injuries.

The family had two dogs – a husky-like Alaskan malamute and a terrier – but it was not disclosed which was responsible. Neither had caused any problems previously and a coroner judged the death to be an accident.

I don't know shining I guess a bite on the face of a baby by any dog could certainly disfigure it, but as you said there is no data,I'm was just stating my point that smaller dogs are statistically more likely to bite, which is what you asked me. . In terms of deaths Jack Russell's have killed recently . See above. Your ignorance frankly is boring me now so I am off

Shining12 · 01/05/2016 22:52

so thats:
bull mastiffs
Staffordshire bull terriers
Presa Canario crossbreed
bulldog
pitbull-type
husky-like Alaskan malamute

nope no dashund, chihuahua, jack russell, or Pekinese
who'd a thought it tiny dogs dont kill people large ones do

Shining12 · 01/05/2016 22:55

was just stating my point that smaller dogs are statistically more likely to bite, which is what you asked me
no I asked ' which ones have attacked and killed people'

so I am off
hooray!

imonaplane · 01/05/2016 23:09

Gosh!

kali110 · 01/05/2016 23:14

total don't bother. Shinning isn't interested they just wany to goad you, as proven.
You missed off the list shitzu, collie and jack russell.
Suppose as they're not big bully dogs though they don't count Hmm

kali110 · 01/05/2016 23:16

Even though tgey're on the list as top dogs that attack...

NoMudNoLotus · 01/05/2016 23:18

Yabu .

You have a right to enjoy parks and beaches - so do dogs and dog owners.

I have 2 DC but I can't stand other people's toddlers or children and I deal with it .

Your anxieties are your problem - not mine.

Dog owners do know their dogs and the risks they pose.

I can safely say that my cockapoo will be loose off leash all over Cornwall and Pembrokeshire beaches this year - because the beaches we go to allow them to be.

kali110 · 01/05/2016 23:19

I'm also astounded that one of the stories you've highlighted the dog was Clearly abused yet you're trying to use it to fit your own agenda shining really low.

NoMudNoLotus · 01/05/2016 23:22

Seriously if you have a phobias take responsibility for them and get some help.

Your phobias are not anybody else's responsibility but your own.

kali110 · 01/05/2016 23:30

dashound hasn't been responsible for any disfiguring injuries Grin you lnow this for certain yes? Or just assuming? I have a scar on my hand from a yorkie!

Tessabelle74 · 02/05/2016 00:03

I'm a dog owner yet I get massively annoyed when dogs are off leads in public areas! Not everyone likes dogs, most don't like dog prints on their clothes after being "greeted" by Fido and some dogs are on leads because they don't like other dogs so don't want to say "hello" to your precious pooch!
