People who only use the landline

Aibu this is ever so slightly tedious? In the evening I'm shattered and want to make arrangements via text/message, but some people just don't respond to any communication other than a phone call.

But that's the whole point scary. You can use or ignore or mute or switch off or whatever your mobile phone when you're busy / can't be bothered. I'm not saying you have to have it in your hand, staring at the screen 24/7 Confused

And it's perfectly easy to get cheap mobile phone contracts in Belgium. As I know from personal experience so that's a fatuous argument as well.

DorothyL--But if you have a landline you probably have wifi don't you

what an odd thought. of course we have a land line and wifi
I also have an old tape deck and record player and records and Mp3's and ipods

bitoutofpractice Having a mobile contract in Belgium is a waste of money for me as I wouldn't use it.....why pay for what I don't use? The last time we looked at a GSM contract, it was upwards of 45€ per month....I only pay £23 for ds with unlimited data in UK, so the market here isn't that competitive, and having been here for a decade, and having coped with a landline and email, I'm sorted. 50€ credit lasts me 6 months, less than I would pay on a contract.

I am not stopping people contacting me, they can use email or the landline, so I pick up messages when I'm home. I frequently go out without my GSM, so ringing it would make no difference anyway. Given my family is in the UK or the Gulf, I am not going to use a GSM to call them, so for me, the only point in having a mobile is if I break down on a journey back to the UK.

The other point is that in the UK, having a mobile where we live is a PITA. Getting a signal can be impossible at times, and I get sick of hanging out of the attic window by my big toe to get one, hence, landlines. I am used to not using a mobile, I manage perfectly well without using one for weeks at a time, and the thing is, as I said, purely for my convenience, both in the UK and Belgium. As DH would tell you, I spend hours on the phone, but not on a mobile.

There are quite a few trees around my house so the mobile signal is not good.

I don't call mobiles because I don't know if the person is driving.

I either email or text, in which case they can reply when it's convenient/safe to do so, or call them on their landline.

But I don't really like phones. You just play phone tag all day because you call them and they're out, then they call you and you're on the loo, then you call them back and they've gone to a meeting and they finally get you (on your mobile) when you are on the train. Just use email, please. And if I email you don't respond asking for my phone number. There's a reason I emailed you!

I'd say you haven't tried very hard to get a cheap contract in Belgium then scary. Probably because you don't want one.because you wouldn't find it convenient because you're determined that wouldn't happy with your landline.

Although it's worth pointing out that 99% of my messaging and other phone use is done through wifi. Though that's not if interest to you as you've decided that being in contact with the world isn't for you
