To admit that there's a tiny bit of me that wants Trump to be president - just to see what on earth would happen?!

Please don't misunderstand me, I think he's the most ridiculous human being to walk the planet and for the most part, the thought of him becoming president terrifies me. I'm a laid back liberal leftie at heart and always will be.
There's just this tiny bit of me that just wonders what in the blue fuck would actually happen if he got in and that it would be the most fascinating social experiment ever conducted. What would and could they actually do to prevent the outright chaos and backlash that would follow? How long would he last before he realised the reality of what he's actually done and that he just wouldn't cope??
It would be mind blowing to watch the uproar from over on this side of the pond wouldn't it? The shit that hit the fan when Bush got in and when Palin gave it a good shot was intriguing enough and provided us with enough talking points to last a lifetime- let alone this bumbling, fumbling narcissistic buffoon.
Can you imagine....?!

OK, first thing is that apparently several senior generals have indicated that they would rather resign than serve a President Trump and do the hare-brained things Trump claims he would require them to do (can't remember where I read this. Daily Beast I think, possibly Rolling Stone). Bad news.

Secondly, people would get together and plan to impeach the Donald and possibly his Vice-President ASAP and on prettymuch any basis so Paul Ryan could then be President. Not all that bad news-Ryan is at least intelligent and a proper adult. He also says he has mellowed since his 'war on the poor' stint as Romney's running mate. Plus I quite fancy him. No one fancies Donald. Not even Melania.

Thirdly, markets everywhere tumble due to the very uncertainty of a Trump presidency. 2008 recession times 100. No one has any money or the ability to raise any, not even ISIS. Crisis everywhere, except Germany and Norway, which close their borders. Seriously bad news.

Fourthly, the living former presidents (Carter, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama) form the 5 Wise men committee and, in a complete break with convention, publicly urge caution on the new president. At the press conference, Clinton has to be restrained by Carter from an extended peevish rant at the American people for not choosing Hilary.

But seriously, as my DH points out, all it takes is for someone at a Trump rally to run up and mess with his coiffure and Trump is over as a serious candidate. I bet at an isolated base somewhere, various Navy Seals are training to do just that.

Its sad that everyone on Facebook over here has an opinion on trump and there has been loads of memes about 'if you like trump please feel free to educate yourself ' trump will cause the end of the world ' etc

But there isn't hardly enough outrage at the prime minister we have in power now who is causing untold misery and gets away with it because he is posh and a bit more sly than Trump who probably is a bit more honest and upfront with his policies.

KP86 · 26/04/2016 17:16

He's not at all smart, his wealth has actually decreased in real terms over his lifetime. Most was inherited and at least 25% lost due to his stupidity.

It's like Tony Abbott (former Aust-PM). He was a moron who was very dangerous because he didn't realise just how stupid he is. He said and did everything opposite to the previous government to be spiteful. Did his utmost best to dismantle any good policy that was enacted and was the worst opposition leader Australia has ever had. Abbott admitted he would do anything short of sell his own arse to be PM.

Sorry for the side-rant on Abbott; he and Trump are very alike. They want POWER, not to be LEADERS. There is a huge difference and one I hope the majority of Americans realise before it's too late.

Oh aye. If this were a novel I'd LOVE to see him elected. As it's not, I'd rather not.

That sums up my thoughts on the matter.

It would be nice to see what happens if he becomes president, but only if we could go back to normal after that.

Actually, for those of you who speak German, the Heute Show on German TV channel ZDF has made a piece on what would happen if Trump became president, it is probably on Youtube somewhere.

VestalVirgin · 26/04/2016 17:19

Found it:

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2016 17:22

It's worth noting the way the US political system managed to deal with a real criminal in Richard Nixon (although the strongly founded allegation that he deliberately escalated Vietnam to further his campaign is one of the most shocking things I think the US has produced in living memory).

However, as a President Nixon wasn't so bad (apart from the War on Drugs failure). He was certainly more far sighted than his critics, as East (China)-West relations bear out.

FuriousFate · 26/04/2016 17:22

YABU and extremely offensive for treating the whole thing as a joke. As a British expat in the US, with children who hold dual US/UK nationality, I find your comments incredibly crass. You'd like to sit back and watch the shit hit the fan, would you? Laugh at other people's misfortunes? Shame on you. We will be relocating internationally if Trump (God forbid) makes it to power.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 17:25

If more than 50% of US voters do elect Trump, then you better leave the country. Not because of him (as he'll probably won't have that much impact), but because of what it says about voting adults in the US.

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2016 17:31

We will be relocating internationally if Trump (God forbid) makes it to power.

I wonder what Phil Collins did with his bolt hole ? ...

AppleSetsSail · 26/04/2016 17:37

The way in which he mocked a disabled reporter was probably the worst thing I've seen about Trump.

FuriousFate · 26/04/2016 18:07

Lweji - that's a good point.

I find it hard to reconcile the fact that Trump hates immigrants with the fact that that's what we are as a family, effectively. The dual nationality of the DC is due to their being born on US soil. How do I explain to them that they're hated? (Even if it is by an idiot like Trump.)

hairymelonwalton · 26/04/2016 18:17

madamedeathstare thanks for telling me that, i dont know much about dt but i did think he was a self made man i didnt know he inherited his wealth
i take " he must be intelligent" back , Smile

Lweji · 26/04/2016 18:40

Fwiw, I don't think he hates migrants. I think he just jumped on the bandwagon and is saying what the Republican electorate wants to hear.
Migrants are common scapegoats for demagogues, as it's easy to use people's natural distrust of outsiders. And it looks like an easy remedy for internal problems, although more difficult to implement.

VestalVirgin · 26/04/2016 18:55

Well, immigrants are a very big problem in America. Starting with Columbus, the Americas have been having a very serious immigration problem.

I say the immigrants' descendants should go back to where they come from. Everyone who can't prove they have Native American ancestors at least among their grandparents ...

Oh wait, that would mean Trump might end up in Europe ... perhaps not such a good idea, after all.

nippiesweetie · 26/04/2016 19:51

I've seen it suggested that if he'd simply invested his inheritance he would be just about as rich as he is now given his various business failures. A lot of stuff with his name on is not owned by him.

Does anyone else use the Make Donald Drumph Again app? I do and I keep thinking that people are typing Drumph instead of Trump when of course they aren't.

SenecaFalls · 26/04/2016 22:44

How do I explain to them that they're hated? (Even if it is by an idiot like Trump.)

Trump doesn't hate all immigrants. His mother was an immigrant. What he has done is to jump on the anti-Mexican, anti-Muslim bandwagon for political expediency. It's racism more than anti-immigrant feeling, which makes it even more sinister.

Flamingo1980 · 27/04/2016 06:43

Some fab and interesting responses as usual folks! Love this website...

Yes, Séneca.

He's all pro immigration. Just as long as they are female, models, blonde and he can marry them.
Not like the drug trafficking, rapist Mexicans or the terrorist Muslims. Hmm

WindPowerRanger · 28/04/2016 17:54

He is so lacking in imagination! Why can't Trump co-opt the rapist Mexicans to fight the terrorist Muslims? Like the Gurkhas, only with no honour and more tattoos?

Lweji · 28/04/2016 18:07

And ISIS to turn on the Mexican cartels?

Now, I might support that.
