To admit that there's a tiny bit of me that wants Trump to be president - just to see what on earth would happen?!

Please don't misunderstand me, I think he's the most ridiculous human being to walk the planet and for the most part, the thought of him becoming president terrifies me. I'm a laid back liberal leftie at heart and always will be.
There's just this tiny bit of me that just wonders what in the blue fuck would actually happen if he got in and that it would be the most fascinating social experiment ever conducted. What would and could they actually do to prevent the outright chaos and backlash that would follow? How long would he last before he realised the reality of what he's actually done and that he just wouldn't cope??
It would be mind blowing to watch the uproar from over on this side of the pond wouldn't it? The shit that hit the fan when Bush got in and when Palin gave it a good shot was intriguing enough and provided us with enough talking points to last a lifetime- let alone this bumbling, fumbling narcissistic buffoon.
Can you imagine....?!

The rest of the world would find out - very quickly - what few powers the US president really has

Yes. But he could still wreak havoc internationally.

It would be fun to watch GOP and Democrats uniting against a President Trump, though.

CalonGoch · 26/04/2016 14:29

unfortunately I think there are plenty of right-wingers with actual behind-the-scenes power that would be all too happy to make some of Donald Trump's ideas a reality. He's a useful smokescreen.

But then he's not the only Republican candidate capable of saying blood-chillingly grim things - and meaning them.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 14:34

Actually, it's more likely that Cruz means them than Trump.
The problem with Trump is that he can shoot in any direction without thinking.

hairymelonwalton · 26/04/2016 14:35

he must be intelligent, the mans a billonair so hes done something right but some of the shite that comes out of his mouthShock Shock
i saw him on the telly this saying something stupid i cant remember what it was
and i thought ffs man grow up

Lockheart · 26/04/2016 14:38

I think underestimating him as stupid is a very dangerous thing to do. The man has built a multi-billion dollar empire - you can't do that without one hell of a brain behind you.

That said I hope he never sets foot in the White House. He's an excellent business man but a very poor statesman.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 14:41

It has been estimated that he hasn't actually increased the fortune he was left by his father by much, if at all.
He has managed a few bankruptcies and many of his business ventures have failed.
Some argue that his fortune doesn't actually reach the billion, and he threatened to sue them. Afaik he didn't.

But he knows words. He knows the best words. So he must be bright.

Hariasa · 26/04/2016 15:46

Lockheart my understanding is that given the number of businesses he has started that have failed, he would actually have been richer now if he had just left the money his father left him sitting in a bank.

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2016 15:51

Sounds like Donald Trump is a US version of Richard Branson ...

Lweji · 26/04/2016 15:56

If Richard Branson decided to run for UKIP.

If Richard Branson decided to run for UKIP.

I wasn't referring to his politics (although I bet he's a Tory, despite the lefty look).

No, anyone who follows Private Eye long enough will know that Beardie Bransons business acumen has been questioned a few times. His overall wealth is hidden in various complicated structures which may - or may not be - visible in the UK. Furthermore, he's become very good at making money out of "being Richard Branson". So he will sell the Virgin name, plus a limited opportunity to get him dressed as a pirate/train driver/athelete/whatever for the marketing boys, and then - exit stage left. The only "Virgin" company he's ever been serious about (apparently) is the airline.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 16:06

I get it. I was just adding the political bit. :)

SwearyKnickers · 26/04/2016 16:10

Agree with pp that he was basically given fuck tons of money which he then lost repeatedly.

Hes a knob. Although there is a morbid curiosity in me too OP, not enough that I'd vote for him mind you.. But I do wonder.

SwearyKnickers · 26/04/2016 16:11

Madame, I thought they said he would literally would have made more money off the interest with it sitting in a bank but might be wrong.

ArrestedDevelopment · 26/04/2016 16:16

I can understand people are scared of trump getting in but I don't think he is much different than the tories we have in at the minute

mrgrouper · 26/04/2016 16:18

ArrestedDevelopment I would prefer Donald Trump to be UK PM over Cameron. I bet even ruthless, ambitious, racist Trump would not shit on disabled people the way the current lot have.

albertcampionscat · 26/04/2016 16:20

Oh aye. If this were a novel I'd LOVE to see him elected. As it's not, I'd rather not.

As for comparing him to the Tories... I'm not a fan of DC, but if the choice was him or Trump I'd join the bloody conservative party, never mind vote for them.

Boogers · 26/04/2016 16:21

He was recently described as a 'hoofwanking bunglecunt' on Twitter after he praised Katie Hopkins for her views on immigrants.

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2016 16:23

'hoofwanking bunglecunt'

Smile ...

LurkingHusband · 26/04/2016 16:24

In fact ...

To admit that there's a tiny bit of me that wants Trump to be president - just to see what on earth would happen?!
AppleSetsSail · 26/04/2016 16:28

hoofwanking bunglecunt

I love this.

I think he's modestly intelligent. The constraints built into the presidency would hopefully insulate us from his whims.

Like others, I find it hard to measure how much of his private self agrees with his public self.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 16:44

I bet even ruthless, ambitious, racist Trump would not shit on disabled people the way the current lot have.

I don't know about that.

He was quite happy to mock a slightly disabled journalist.

Lweji · 26/04/2016 16:45

As far as intelligence goes, W wasn't very bright (with the fantastic results we all know), but at least he wasn't the egomaniac that Trump is.

Patapouf · 26/04/2016 16:53

Too much potential for infringement of civil liberties. Workers rights in the US are shite and I think they'd get worse. Not to mention the treatment of immigrants there!

It would be interesting to see how the value of the dollar changes. I reckon China stands to gain considerably if the US are financially weak.

wol1968 · 26/04/2016 17:03

In a novel I'd love to see Trump and Boris Johnson have a face-off during a state visit. In real life the prospect of Trump as President terrifies me. The guy can't tell his mouth from his arsehole most of the time.
