AIBU - sounds like I'm being nosey but WTAF is going on.

Live in a street, detached house but houses close together, new estate.

Last night, around 12 uniformed Police & 2 plain clothes arrive NEXT door. Outside for about 30mins no police cars/vans just a lot of radioing/phone usage.

Half the police then go round the back of said neighbours house into their garden.

Nothing, no drama in the street, no one taken out the house etc. Hour later all police disappear.

I'm just hanging around in my house now & 3 marked police vans arrive again, all get out, try and gain entry again to next door.

A. I'm a bit of a "hate this sort of thing going on outside my house etc as the police vans parked outside MY house (great!!!)

B. Jesus what is going on to warrant so many police?

C. Fuck sake!

D. Where the hell ARE my neighbours?

E. This will out me (hopefully not) but ZZ lister lives there

F. I actually hope they are ok!?

So my question is AIBU to want to know what the hell is going on????

If I were you I'd be at the door and say 'Hi, I just thought I'd let you know in case you don't already because you were out, there was a load of police here last night and today just milling around your front and back gardens'.

lborolass · 22/04/2016 14:58

Worry and faux concern is definitely the way to go, pretend you only saw a couple of police officers and were worried about a burglary

RustyParker · 22/04/2016 15:06

Maybe they've been downloading something dodgy?

Can you tell us if the ZZ lister is male or female op?

LittleMissUpset · 22/04/2016 15:07

Ooh intriguing!

Just go out next time the police are there and ask if everything is ok, do the concerned nosy thing.

also blatantly place marking

elementofsurprise · 22/04/2016 15:10

It doesn't make any sense - why would they send massive vans and things if they had no search warrant/weren't going to break in?

Surely they've given the game away and any criminal activity will now stop without trace? Or the people involved will disappear...

Bizarre.

I am reminded of plain clothes police coming to my door and quizzing me and friend in separate rooms because we may have stumbled across something but they wouldn't really tell us what the something was exactly... we were trying to say things to get them to let slip, was all very surreal.

CremeDeSudo · 22/04/2016 15:13

Could it be an Ant & Dec/Jeremy Beadle style gotcha? And they're not really police?

Am also shamelessly placemarking Grin

gingerbreadmanm · 22/04/2016 15:15

Damn - still no further forward ha!

t4gnut · 22/04/2016 15:17

PickAName456 · 22/04/2016 15:21

police would turn up in numbers and with vans if they were making an arrest attempt and were going to be doing searches of the house immediately afterwards. this is the only reason i can think of for what has happened.

we have to have a genuine belief that the person is inside the building to force entry for a wanted person so if it was clear nobody was there then there would be no grounds.

they will keep coming back until the person is in

OP will not be told what is happening. under any circumstances. however worried she is and however hard she tries to find out

GoringBit · 22/04/2016 15:32

Is it Tracey the Barmaid Who Never Speaks?

BillSykesDog · 22/04/2016 15:34

Stockbloom is not far off said triple Z lister.

A stall holder from Eastenders? Jonathan Ross's mum is one of them. Oh dear Paul Ross, what have you done now?

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/04/2016 15:34

oh and if it was a drugs warrant we go in whether the householder is there or not (much better when they're not as then you have to manage them).

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/04/2016 15:35

dont have to manage them even

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/04/2016 15:38

can i just clear up a misconception.

we don't usually need warrants and most arrests are done without them. the powers of entry and search are retained in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

the only warrants we commonly use are warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act to enter a property without an arrest being made (we apply to the magistrates for this) and enforcing warrants for people's arrest when they have failed to appear at court.

Shirkingfromhome · 22/04/2016 15:54

t4gnut- was just going to post the same thing

FelicityR313 · 22/04/2016 15:55

I actually thought ZZ Lister was his name too and I could actually picture him in my head! Grin He was an old rocker hah

So OP - Is ZZ male or female? Age group? Nice person?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 22/04/2016 16:02

Definitely Paul Ross or Andi peters.

HeffalumpHistory · 22/04/2016 16:05
