To be annoyed that DP has ruined this series for me

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 21:18

Me & DP have just started watching a series a few weeks ago, it's currently at series 5 on tv so we've a lot of catching up to do to get up to date

We both really enjoy it and have agreed we'll only watch it together (he has form for binge watching things without me when I'm in bed then I give up because I don't have time to catch up as he wont re-watch)

Thing is, he wants to watch 3/4 episodes a night
Every single night as soon as the kids are in bed he wants to put it on, huffs when I say no I need to clean the kitchen/do a wash/have a shower etc, then moans when I've had enough and want to go to bed
Some nights I just don't fancy watching it that night and want to do or watch something else

So now he's made watching it a chore and just yet another thing on my never ending list of things I've got to do every day and I don't enjoy it anymore
I'm in bed now and he's watching without me

I'm actually really fucked off because I really do like it and I won't be able to watch any more of it now

Bastard

Then if he controls the TV all the time you need to discuss this. We're always in agreement with things on. Or one night one of us controls it and the other night the other one to make it fair. DH gets his choice on mornings he's off work, even though DD usually gets her morning cartoons. She'll get her cartoons later in the day or a family movie to show her opinions and likes do matter but sometimes compromises need to be made.

roarfeckingroar · 20/04/2016 22:42

I don't really get that. It just doesn't really seem like something worth getting upset over. It's just a TV show.

He should perhaps do more to help but if you just have the kids all day can't tidying the kitchen wait 'til the morning?

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 22:46

just have the kids all day? Hmm
You can show yourself out now thanks roar

You are glossing over the fact that your husband is a lazy arse hole

What are you...the housemaid ?

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 20/04/2016 22:58

Hide the remote at the bottom of the laundry basket. Or the washing-up pile.

SolidGoldBrass · 20/04/2016 23:24

He sounds a prize cock. YANBU at all to feel that he has turned watching television into another chore for you; first you have to do all the rest of the chores, because he won't lift a finger, then you have to watch the programme he has decided you should watch and demonstrate your enjoyment of it. Because you are not a person, you are an extension of him and exist for his convenience.
What do you think would happen if you told him you are only prepared to watch the show with him if he does his share of domestic work?

WanderingNotLost · 20/04/2016 23:25

Ah my DP and I love Suits. Season4 has just come onto Netflix so we've been watching it. We're like your DH though, we watch a few episodes at a time usually.

I should warn you, in season 4 Harvey looks like he's been at the pastries a bit...

KnotNora · 20/04/2016 23:31

One of my biggest secrets is that I binge watch series on one of the kids profiles and then tell DP I haven't seen it.

Currently watching WD and pretending I haven't seen it yet Blush

SistersOfPercy · 20/04/2016 23:41

I love suits, dh downloads it so we've not long finished the last season. I was a bit disappointed with it tbh, seemed to have lost its way a bit

DH and I have a big tv in our bedroom in a wardrobe like cabinet so it just looks like a built in unit (I know MN sin to have a TV upstairs!) we go to bed about 9pm, cuddle up and watch an episode or two of whatever series we're watching. He'd never watch without me and I wouldn't without him. I think he's being a selfish dick tbh.

Andylion · 20/04/2016 23:41

It's Suits - not very well known but really very good, and I'm a little bit in love with one of the characters
Which one, Harvey or Mike? It's filmed in Toronto; I love to spot familiar locations.

oldjacksscrote · 20/04/2016 23:42

I have to admit I am like your OH and my God is it annoying when I'm sitting down waiting to watch something together and I have to wait for him to do the bloody washing. Or if he's on a lads night I cant watch anything because he likes to watch stuff together.

Andylion · 20/04/2016 23:58

Ok, I just read the thread. I agree with the Jessica lover; she is a goddess. And Donna? I want to be her. And Louis is wonderful, great comic relief but also, at times, he does just need a hug.

I think that when you binge watch any show, you become less tolerant of repetitive story-lines or a decrease in quality. I think all the flaws become more noticeable.

lottiegarbanzo · 21/04/2016 00:19

Tell him to stop being such a lazy, selfish bastard and start pulling his weight with the housework. That's the issue here, not different tv watching styles.

He just sits there while you put the kids to bed, knowing there's a kitchen to be cleaned before leisure time can begin - and not only does he not do it, he complains to you because you clean up after him? WTAF??? What a total piss-taker.

WombatStewForTea · 21/04/2016 00:35

Ahh Harvey swoon Wink
OP you need to watch the film 'because I said so'. It's also got Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore in it but 'Harvey' is her love interest and fit as!!
I picked it up for a couple of quid on Amazon Grin

Stormtreader · 21/04/2016 16:05

Insist that when you sit down to watch, you resume watching from where you got up to.

He might calm down on the binging a bit if he has to re-watch stuff hes already seen.

MrsJayy · 21/04/2016 16:18

I love a binge watch me and he love settiling down but you need to compromise it gets boring, lewis from suits gives me the heebie geebies i had to stop watching it

The walking dead is the best series on tv.
Another good one is Bates motel which is about norman bates growing up.

Mousefinkle · 21/04/2016 18:37

If he likes it that much he should clean the kitchen while you put the kids to bed or vice versa so things are done sooner and you can watch more of it.

I totally get his addiction, I get like that too. House of cards is usually finished in a week max, often 4-5 days. Currently on breaking bad which I didn't 'get' the first time I tried to watch it but now I'm totally hooked. Almost finished with season 2, I started on Sunday night! Same with books, I've finished a few books in one day if they're really good. Curb your enthusiasm was another, I was done with that in two weeks and there's like eight seasons!

TwentyCupsOfTea · 21/04/2016 18:44

I can't fathom how ANYONE can sit and binge watch tv for hours every night, doesn't he get bored????

Purplepicnic · 21/04/2016 18:54

I find binge-watching ruins even the best shows, as andylion says. It just feels repetitive.

We are also addicted to Suits (fucking love Harvey) but we limit ourselves to 2/3 a week (on different nights) and are watching other things at the same time (House of Cards, Walking Dead) so we have some variety and don't ruin it for ourselves. Could you suggest that?
