To be annoyed that DP has ruined this series for me

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 21:18

Me & DP have just started watching a series a few weeks ago, it's currently at series 5 on tv so we've a lot of catching up to do to get up to date

We both really enjoy it and have agreed we'll only watch it together (he has form for binge watching things without me when I'm in bed then I give up because I don't have time to catch up as he wont re-watch)

Thing is, he wants to watch 3/4 episodes a night
Every single night as soon as the kids are in bed he wants to put it on, huffs when I say no I need to clean the kitchen/do a wash/have a shower etc, then moans when I've had enough and want to go to bed
Some nights I just don't fancy watching it that night and want to do or watch something else

So now he's made watching it a chore and just yet another thing on my never ending list of things I've got to do every day and I don't enjoy it anymore
I'm in bed now and he's watching without me

I'm actually really fucked off because I really do like it and I won't be able to watch any more of it now

Bastard

HIBU - lazy selfish get

Louis, his girlfriend and his work wife who's name I can't recall, and his cat MAKE THE SHOW. Who cares about Mike?

EverySongbirdSays · 20/04/2016 21:41

ready - have we had this conversation on another thread?

Everyone on the Affair is a detestable shitbag except MAYBE Josh Jackson, used to find DW attractive til he did an eerie Fred West

JellyBellyKelly · 20/04/2016 21:43

I KNEW it was going to be Suits from your OP

Charley50 · 20/04/2016 21:44

Can't he clean the kitchen while you put the kids to bed? Lazy cunt.
My DP did this with Breaking Bad. He goes to bed later than so could fit in more in a night.

readytorage · 20/04/2016 21:44

songbird I've not spoken on any threads about it....I wish! I enjoyed it so much....had to put his Fred West impersonation to the back of my mind but he has one beautiful body.

Joshua Jackson....shhaaaaawiiing

WellThankYouAJPTaylor · 20/04/2016 21:46

I had this problem but in reverse when we were watching Breaking Bad. I'd want to watch two episodes per night, DP would ideally have watched one a WEEK Hmm - he likes to pretend it's like the old days when you'd watch a show at 9pm on Thursday evening and then have to wait a week to find out what happens next. We compromised at an episode every other night!

That said I do think 3-4 eps a night is too much so YANBU!

ProfessorBranestawm · 20/04/2016 21:47

Possibly missing the entire point of the thread, but I hope this huffs when I say no I need to clean the kitchen/do a wash/ isn't indicative of the balance in housework of an evening Wink is he just sitting on his arse while you do all that stuff?

TendonQueen · 20/04/2016 21:47

Ok, so tell him what you posted here. If you share the chores you can both watch. Or ask him if he secretly prefers it when you just go off to be the housework fairy and give him total control of the remote?

Champagneformyrealfriends · 20/04/2016 21:49

My BIL loves suits. I'm on Mat leave and currently obsessed with "The Mentalist". Might have a go with "Suits" next!

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 21:49

Yep definitely Songbird couldn't give a fuck about Mike
And I really liked Rachel in the beginning but as it goes on she's getting more whiney and needy
I could watch a whole show just about Louis tbh - with Harvey strutting in and out every now and again for a bit of eye candy Smile

Loving your use of the word shhaaaawiiing btw readytorage Grin

D'oh totally missed that post sorry OP. Agree with tendon's suggestion

TheOptimisticPessimist · 20/04/2016 21:50

I thought it would be Suits too Grin

It's a great show! I especially love Jessica but I'm a big Gina Torres fan anyway.

EverySongbirdSays · 20/04/2016 21:50

The thing I love about the Affair and it is a slow burn is the discrepencies in events when he POV changes

Like what really happened with the gun that time??

It's fascinating and makes an excellent point about perspective

ie in Alison's perspective he's lechy and pushy in his she's flirty and scantily clad

Also Pacey Witter, Abby Lockhart, Jimmy McNulty and Toby Ziegler are in it so what's not to love???

Pseudo341 · 20/04/2016 21:50

YANBU. I need a lot more sleep than DH and frankly we keep very different hours as I'm up early with the kids and he's often working very late. If there's a series we both want to watch he will wait to watch it with me. There are plenty of things that he wants to watch that I don't so he watches those when I'm in bed. You said your DH wanted to rewatch Game of Thrones, why can't he do that without you and then watch whatever it was you wanted to watch (I lost track of that bit) when you're around? Unless you're preventing from watching loads of things he wants to watch I'd say he's being a bit of a dick.

EverySongbirdSays · 20/04/2016 21:53

I want a 'You're gonna get LITT UP' mug

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 21:54

I think you've both got it tbh Professor & Tendon he does totally control the tv as that's all he really does after work, meanwhile my "work" goes on much longer so I feel rushed, whereas if he pitched in once he got home then our down time would be in sync

I haven't watched suits in a while. Lost it a little in season 3 and just never really bothered to catch up.

DH and I start watching things together but then we find we can't stick to it. He gets huffy when I say I don't want to watch yet another episode of something but then realises just how unreasonable he is and we agree holding off a couple of nights and then we forget. We did that with Arrow and now I've started watching it again while he's out and will let him catch up. I'll happily watch the episodes again though sometimes I secretly watch the episodes and then watch them hours later with him and pretend like I wasn't expecting the twist to happen.

I think he needs to lighten up but you also need to find an arrangement that works. Don't stop watching but find another time to do it. I have 2 kids in the house and find time to watch things. Granted I'm quite lax on watching g things like Arrow or Suits with my 3yo and baby. The only shows not watched with them around are GOT, AHS and supernatural (that one because 3yo got really scared of 1 episode so we don't risk it anymore.

NoCapes · 20/04/2016 21:54

Songbird my brother has one! I never got it until I started watching this and I've told him to order me one asap BrewGrin

HIDE THE REMOTE

or.....

EVEN MORE DEVIOUSLY CHANGE THE NETFLIX PASSWORD.

EVERY.
DAMN.
DAY.

Halo Grin

Ameliablue · 20/04/2016 21:58

He is being very unreasonable both about the tv and the housework.

SurroMummy13 · 20/04/2016 21:59

If it's GoT... Just sit down and watch the show.

If not GoT, dwbi... It's not that good GrinWink

Artistic · 20/04/2016 22:03

Suits is good. Not great but I've binged watched it myself. Couldn't wait for DH and had loads of bf time on ML. But it does get repetitive after a point. You can watch it as and when and you wouldn't have missed much to be honest. Grin

PuntasticUsername · 20/04/2016 22:04

"he does totally control the tv as that's all he really does after work, meanwhile my "work" goes on much longer so I feel rushed, whereas if he pitched in once he got home then our down time would be in sync"

Yep. This is the thing you need to solve, I'm afraid.

Unicow · 20/04/2016 22:04

See we have the problem that we put 1 or 2 on then suddenly it's 2am. Blush

ceeveebee · 20/04/2016 22:06

I am like your DH, we are on season 4 of suits and I want to binge every night but sometimes DH doesn't want to watch even one episode, apparently there are other programmes he wants to watch too, the bastard. Although I think Harvey is good looking I prefer Mike, I like a flawed character. We both work in corporate finance so a lot of the scenarios are close to home and I find myself arguing with the screen on a point of law sometimes!! Love the clothes most of all though
