Seventeen Loads of Washing... I'm not am I?

AIBU in the slightest? Seventeen (spelt out so you're sure it's not a typo). 17 loads of washing this week I have done and put away. (As well as working 72+ hours) I accept I am a little bit OCD about the sheets and towels being on a hot wash alone and that only white things go in the white wash but I do not understand how this household can make so much damn washing!?!!! These are all full loads.

AIBU to ask how many loads you do on an average week, if towels and bedding are done at least once a week and if 22 flannels are an average weeks usage in your household?? I probably am but please ...tell me they are not going to put "now we have no clean clothes to wear" on my gravestone?

There has to be an easier way than this... Surely?

4 loads of bedding here a week, 3 loads of towels, 2 loads of whites, 1 load of unis and 2 to 3 loads every day (barring sunday which is uni wash day). There are 2 adults 1 17 yr old a 12 yr old 6 yr old and then a 3 yr old. 3 yr old is a messy little begger and could go through 3 changes of clothes a day (including pjs) and 6 yr old has sn and if something even gets a drop of water on it the entire outfit has to be changed. Right down to clean socks.
So thats between 12-15 general clothes washes plus another 10 specific types of washes a week.

Oh and bath towels get reused before washing.

I cut our washing a staggering amount by pointing out that just because something has been worn for an hour does not mean that chucking it in the washing basket is an acceptable alternative for putting it away when asked.

They did it because it was quicker than actually putting it away so "Put it AWAY, if I find it in the washing basket then you are doing the laundry" worked very well!

3 of us. Machine can take 7kg.

One darks.
One lights. Towels are washed in this, but no softener. I then do a 20 minute rinse with softener for anything that needs it from this wash.
One colours - but that might be once a fortnight or more.
One delicates for DS dermasilk pjs.

We use the baby wash cloths instead of cotton flannels. Very easy to wash.

4 of us here and at least 2 loads a day. Loads of sports/gym gear. Dh's cycling stuff 3 times per week, 3 lots of bedding and ours is usually washed twice a week. Several loads for towels and at least one load a week for the dog towels. 10 white shirts a week for the dcs plus all the other clothes.

Today, the machine is on its 3rd load. I reckon we easily do 17 loads in a week too, probably more. Thank God we have washing machines and tumble dryers!

7 a week without bedding but including towels, 9 a week with bedding as (shock, horror) I don't wash bedding every week. That's for 2 adults, 2 children (9 and 5 yo)

There is only 1 of me and I have done 3 loads of washing this weekend, but clothing only, no sheets or towels, so if you multiply my 3 by a factor of 4 or 5 you would be getting close. Add in separate wash cycles for whites, sheets etc. and you could come up with 17. But that is quite a lot!

There are four of us here, and we do about five loads a week. Six or seven if we decide to do the beds and all the towels, but we don't do that every week - just tend to chuck some towels in if they've been dumped on the floor, or if someone's been swimming. Having said that, I got behind this week, so have done six loads today. Last lot is in the machine, and fifth is on the line.

I've got me, DH and two dc under 3. I need to do a load a day to stay on top of it.

We don't have any 'extras' though, no hobbies like swimming or football. I do use cloth nappies but I don't change the beds or towels weekly so that cancels them out!

My plan now I'm back to work is to put a load on every night and hang it up each morning (no tumble dryer). Last week I never managed to get up in time Grin I'm sure it would work really well if I wasn't so damn tired.

Probably about the same as Waffenose.

I always do hot wash for bedding and towels, change the tea towels everyday. But apart from that am pretty relaxed.

If you are working full time, 17 is way too much (unless you enjoy it, which you don't seem to).

Perhaps retrain other family members not to automatically throw things in the laundry bin because it's easier than hanging them up? Or to help with the washing?

You are washing your life away.
17 bloody loads of washing, that's madness.

There are 6 of us.
3 are teenage boys, 3 play rugby/football several times a week. Then there's the drop a wet towel on the floor and leave it to fester thing they do.
I change the beds every week.
I reckon I easily do 4 loads a day. 28 a week at the minimum.

I've not thought about this before, But I reckon this is what we do:

Towels x 1
Bedding x 2/3
Tea towels / cleaning cloths (boil wash) x 1
Wool wash x 2
Swimming gear x 1
Whites x 1
Coloureds x 3
Darks x 3

15 loads sounds about right for us.There's 5 of us. Kids have school uniforms and go to creche, so that ups the amount of washing we do. Also, youngest DC is mastering being dry at night, so the bedding wash/pjs washing is higher at the moment.

Family of 5, 7 loads per week max. Everyday I look about to see what needs doing that day!

We have about 12 loads a week without bedding but with towels. Bedding adds about 4 loads to that so it could be 16...

It's mostly kids clothes - kids play out an awful lot and get changed when they come inside because they are muddy, so there are often up to 4 sets of clothes to wash from DC2 (the muddiest) in a day, and 2 from DC3 (who is still small enough to not be made ridiculous by being made to wear waterproof trousers) DC1 mightget tthrough the day in the same clothes or might not, it depends.

I only do bedding once a fortnight and don't iron anything though.

I'm baffled by how people's kids can wear the same clothes two days in a row, or even one set all day, unless they are kept indoors :o

I do the kids 2 X a week - 3 loads each
Ours once a week - 3 loads
Towels once a week 1 load
Sheets every 2 weeks 2 loads
Randoms 1-2 loads so that's 12-13 some weeks and 10 other weeks. That's 5 of us

17 sounds about right for our house - never less than 2 loads a day and often 3 a day. There are 5 of us including 3 boys who are always getting mud, food, lord knows what else on their clothes.

Family of 5, I do about 14 loads a week, works out about two a day.
We have lots of different kits, dp and I go to the gym 4/5 times a week, he has a messy job so needs clean clothes every day, DC change tshirts/shirts and often trousers and cardigans daily, blazer only gets washed once a week.
DC bedding washed once a fortnight, ours every week.
Towels get bunged in as and when, usually wash one in with every load, not a specific towel wash.
We are on a water meter but it costs what it costs. Actually the bill seems to have increased by about £30 a quarter so not too bad.

WE do alot, about 3 loads a day, due to ds2,

However I have to wash towels after every use (again due to ds2) , bedding once a week, (except ds2, who is every other day at the moment) then their is my work clothes, school uniform (10 trousers, 10 white-t-shirts, and 10 school jumpers) then dh work clothes (clean shirts and trousers every day).

Dh and ds2 do alot of sports so this = to about 2 loads of washing

Then their is normal every day wear, however it wasn't for ds2 we would do roughly I think about 8-10 washings per week.

ds2 needs bathing every night and our water bill was only £128 for this quarter, which I dont thinks too high as family and friends are averaging £100 per guarter
