AIBU?

...to want a tumble dryer rather than a dishwasher?

Moving house soon and new house has space for one or the other. We currently just have tumble dryer.

DH wants dishwasher. He is chief washer upper.

I want to stay with tumble dryer. I am chief launderer.

The thought of doing towels and bedding without a tumble dryer in winter makes me want to cry.

So AIBU to want to stick with tumble dryer?

It's a tall thin house without garage or utility so if tumbler was not in kitchen would have to be in a bedroom. Only kitchen and living room/diner downstairs.

Can you put everything in a dishwasher? Haven't had one before. Wouldn't want to have to also be doing washing up by hand.

You don't even need a vent for condenser dryers, find somewhere else to put it.
Stop using both for a week and see who is most unhappy/inconveniences by it!

If you have a spare room put the dryer in there.

If not loose a kitchen cupboard?

I'd rather have less plates etc... than no dishwasher!

We put everything in ours except non stick pans and my fancy wine glasses.

We've just had the same problem! The tumble dryer and washing machine have gone into the spaces.

I love my washing machine so I'm not prepared to swap them for a washer-dryer. I have said we can maybe get a counter top dishwasher, but I'm slightly hoping DH just forgets about it! (I do the washing up anyway)

How big is your bathroom?

Here, it's not unusual for a washing machine to be in a bathroom.

I went from having neither to having both and it has made life so much easier. I have no idea which I'd pick if I had to choose. PP make a good point that a condenser tumble dryer does not need to be in the kitchen, though; condensers don't even need a vent so they can be literally anywhere with a plug socket that's large enough to contain it. Have you an understairs cupboard/airing cupboard/out of the way corner it could go in? Then you could have the dishwasher in the kitchen and you'd both be happy.

I've put almost everything in the dishwasher so far because I also can't be doing with hand washing. The stock pot won't fit (it's enormous and designed to feed the 5000), and I daren't risk the very delicate grappa glasses DP got for Christmas, but otherwise everything goes straight in.

I love my bosh tumble dryer with a passion after being without one for 15 years. Ynbu.

We used to have our tumble dryer in the airing cupboard (the hot water tank had been removed when the boiler was changed to a combi). I just left the door open when I was using it.

Now we've moved it's stacked on the w/machine in a utility cupboard. I was surprised though that I coped very well throughout the winter when it was broken. When our dishwasher broke I was cursing after half a day!

Also I think venting ones are more efficient, I just dangle by vented pipe out the back door which is often open for the dogs anyway

Deff rather have a tumble dryer, but as others have said dryer can go in any room - get a condenser and you don't have to have a vent.

Condensing tumble dryers are more of a faff. I have a vented one But no where to vent as new extension is on the boundary. I just have the pipe sticking out underneath the cupboard in the utility, put on the fan. Sometimes I open the window but the pipe is much too short as window is in the loo. It does create dust though. I would choose a dishwasher any day of the week. But we have space to hang clothes and tumble dryer mainly used for towels.

Dishwasher and washer dryer.

I put everything except champagne flutes in the dishwasher. I bought my wine glasses specially so they fitted in the upper basket!

Having said that I'm in the process of rebuilding the hall cupboard so I can get both a washer dryer in there.... The washer dryer Inboyght with this flat is really crap (indesit) but all the others I've owned were fine (indesit, neff, tricity bemdix) butninhave the space here to have separate ones and it is my forever house and separate appliances will cost about the same as a good combined one so it makes more sense.

As others have said condenser dryers don't need plumbing just a power source. They also wear really well - my dad's is 17 years old (bosch) and still works just fine....

No don't put a condenser in a cupboard where ever it is you still have to open a window, plus tanks full of water are heavy.

We had a tiny kitchen in our flat and before we re-did the kitchen it just had a washing machine. We bought a washer drier (which was excellent) and a slim line dishwasher. Loved them both so much! You can fit a surprising amount in a slimline dishwasher. Our washer drier was really good - I was weary as I'd heard bad things but we had no issues at all. Get both. My husband was very anti the sacrificing cupboard space for a dishwasher but he admitted afterwards that he loved not doing the washing up so it was worth it.

I don't open a window (often using at night in winter!) what will it do that's bad?

Tumble dryer is definitely more important.I have both and use both on a daily basis but if one had to go it would be the dishwasher , when my last tumble dryer died I replaced it the next day whereas when I changed dishwasher we considered models ,looked around to get a good price etc and went without one for a few weeks .

Definitely dishwasher and washer dryer. I don't have any problems at all with my washer dryer. Washing up is horrible and dishwashers make things much cleaner and more hygienic!

However I think slimline dishwashers are great too. You can easily get two meals from a family of four in and they are very quick. You may still need to wash up pots and pans separately but I think it is probably only fair on your chief washer-upper to try to accommodate a dishwasher if you can!

Think of this this way; dirty dishes/drying dishes contained in the kitchen in & around the sink.

Drying laundry…all over the house

I have a dishwasher and would massively miss it if i didn't have it. I don't have a tumbler, but i don't mind doing washing. I find it quite satisfying.

Therealye

I have one and all though it collects all the water it still blows a lot of hot air out the front, I tried running it without windows open, and it didn't take to long to build up condensation on walls.

Combo washer dryer will solve your problems. I have one and it is ace.

Dishwashers are great too it's brilliant being able to store all the dirty plates and cups inside and then wash them all at once.

I have a wonderful heated clothes rail from Lakeland that dries washing overnight. I just keep it folded up behind the kitchen door in the daytime. Perfect alternative to the tumble drier space problem Cheaper too.

I have never owned either so can't advise.Grin at posters who say it is a disaster if they didn't have one or the other. Erm, it really isn't. 3 dcs here and it is perfectly doable.

A tumble dryer, naturally. Living on the North Sea coast, there's no way I'd want the wind blowing through me on a December morning.
