To wish supermarket staff were a bit more glamorous.

Obviously this is lighthearted - but strolling through Tesco earlier I thought how much nicer it would be if the staff had a touch of glamour about them - supermarket shopping is such a boring drudge isn't it, & I for one would be so cheered up if the staff were a bit more 'Hollywood' - obviously it doesn't have to be the full Audrey Hepburn or James Bond - but maybe a step up from dowdy overalls.

Anyone else?

I couldn't agree more.

Retail staff need to up their game.

ParisGellar · 15/04/2016 14:56

There's a lady who looks exactly like Boy George in my local asda.

Hamishandthefoxes · 15/04/2016 14:58

As every element of the uniform including precise tights colour (lightly tanned not beige) is prescribed by head office, I don't think the staff have anything at all to do with it.

This is better Grin

RudeElf · 15/04/2016 15:07

I'd be happy if they just did their fucking jobs.

LifeofI · 15/04/2016 15:09

They work in retail, retail sucks I use to work in it so I know why most retail workers look miserable plus they are not paid very well. I think they have a pass.
If it was a hairdressers or beauty salon then fair enough.

RudeElf · 15/04/2016 15:09

parisgellar does she have a nose ring through the middle part of her nose? Like a bull?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/04/2016 15:11

I think you are simply not shopping in the right establishments Grin

I imagine that the average supermarket worker would quite like if it customers didn't come in the door in pj's / filthy from a building site / with streaming headcolds and snotty children etc etc.

To wish supermarket staff were a bit more glamorous.
TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/04/2016 15:15

This made me laugh

To wish supermarket staff were a bit more glamorous.
tappitytaptap · 15/04/2016 15:16

I don't voice this opinion very often as it might not make me very popular but I'd love for most people to look a bit more glamourous. Way too many people don't make the most of themselves. I suspect that I will get shot down for saying that though....

blindsider · 15/04/2016 15:20

You pays peanuts.....

There's an older lady (70 odd, i'd say) who works at our local Home Depot (we're in forrin parts) who DH and I call the 'glamorous granny'. She's just lovely....

Beyootiful coiffed hair, perfect makeup, nails done, jewellery on. She rocks her orange pinny and steel toe trainers, I tell you. Puts the young 'uns to shame Grin

MadHattersWineParty · 15/04/2016 15:22

I've never been out in pjs but I certainly have rocked up to the local supermarket looking like shit on occasion.

Mainly hungover and in search of bacon. I couldn't have coped with staff dripping with glamour at these times, no way!

AdrenalineFudge · 15/04/2016 15:24

Lighthearted or not yabu. The staff aren't preparing for a Vogue photoshoot.

Sparklingbrook · 15/04/2016 15:24

While the customers are out shopping in their pjs I don't know why the staff have to be all glamorous.

Laidupwithabrokenleg · 15/04/2016 15:32

Not retail, but uniform related. When I was in hospital recently one of the Health Care Assistants (who was very glamorous) seemed to have customised her uniform of baggy tunic and trousers, and sported a very fitted tunic and what looked like jeggings!

Zaphodsotherhead · 15/04/2016 15:35

Trust me, we are not paid enough to even buy makeup, let alone use it...

pictish · 15/04/2016 15:37

I don't think they get paid enough to justify going above and beyond to impress their customers do they?

DameXanaduBramble · 15/04/2016 15:40

some get paid enough, depends where you work I suppose.

DameXanaduBramble · 15/04/2016 15:41

And it's not all about how much you're paid, it's personal pride, your own standards etc

RudeElf · 15/04/2016 15:43

I work retail on minimum wage as well as my colleagues and we all wear make up and have our hair neat and groomed.

AppleSetsSail · 15/04/2016 15:44

Just joining the chorus of 'Can the shoppers stop wearing pyjamas and then we'll move onto the staff?'.

coldcanary · 15/04/2016 15:49

I worked in Woolies not long after some 'designer' (I use the term loosely, I think it was Jeff Banks) got his hands on the uniform. Disgusting colour, uncomfortable fabric and stupid length of skirt that we had to wear with tights of a particular denier. It didn't make me feel glamorous at all, especially when the manager came down hard in any of us student staff who tried to glam ourselves up with make up before doing an 8 hour shift serving the great and good of Rochdale..
YABU unless you leave the house every day looking like you're ready for a photo shoot or tea with the Queen I strongly suggest taking your 'lighthearted' comments to customer service and see what they say after they've finished laughing at you Grin
