Seriously, I'm 36 weeks pregnant with DS2 and I can barely walk/sit down due to two piles. One small and soft, one huge and rock hard Blush
I've been using ice packs and witch hazel for two days to no avail, Anusol has also proved useless.
I had DH take a look and he just laughed and said I look like Rafiki back there Hmm
I'm at a total loss, I can't tell you how painful it is. It's actually making me feel sick. Has anyone tried anything that's really helped?

I saw the consultant several times and in my hospital it seems they are quite reluctant to do banding etc. His solution was to eat high fibre cereal Hmm I saw the procedure on Embarrassing Bodies though and that put me right off.

Ohsotired123 · 16/04/2016 23:54

Apparently ice is good for soothing them.

SofiaAmes · 16/04/2016 23:59

I haven't read everyone else's suggestion but I can guarantee you that the ONLY thing that works is Hydrocortisone Cream. I use 1% which you can buy over the counter in the USA, but it's a consult item (not prescription) in the UK. It's sold for rashes and eczema. Just put it on and it immediately shrinks the pile. No sitting in bathtubs for hours on end or making a mess with witch hazel.

Hydrocortisone is the active ingredient in the expensive prescription foams that are sometimes prescribed for piles.

Babyroobs · 17/04/2016 00:27

Proctosydl cream and suppositories. I think you can only get it on prescription.

Threesoundslikealot · 17/04/2016 00:46

Prescription cream and suppositories (ask for both) were the only thing that worked for me. I really feel for you.

To reassure you, I had two thrombosed piles in my last pregnancy, one after the other. The pain with both was eased with the prescription cream and they both went away with minimal bleeding. The GP told me she would have sent me to hospital to drain them had I not been pregnant, but she wanted to avoid the anesthetic. That was hard to hear! But they will get better. Stay off your feet as much as possible, and plenty of hot baths.

SofiaAmes · 17/04/2016 19:44

Forget the prescription cream and the suppositories. Just buy the hydrocortisone cream and tell them it's for an itch (which it kind of is....piles are itchy). I promise you it works perfectly and quickly and so much better than any of the other solutions mentioned.

SupSlick · 17/04/2016 20:33

I had a banding procedure. Holy fuck I wish I'd kept the piles!

It was horrific. I cried for days. And the bands kept falling off too soon any way.

sonlypuppyfat · 17/04/2016 22:11

I had it done too, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

BoopTheSnoot · 18/04/2016 07:02

So you wouldn't say that it's worth having them banded?

Go to your GP - I too had thrombosed piles in late pregnancy and eventually I got some decent anaesthetic - they gave me the cream they use before performing minor surgery and it did help. I also got myself sent to a consultant to discuss moving things along, although doubt they will do that until you are at least 38 weeks.

SiencynArsecandle · 18/04/2016 07:15

Another vote for Proctosedyl. Started using it when I was in agony with DS 17 years ago - still suffer from time to time and still get it on prescription.

sonlypuppyfat · 18/04/2016 07:27

You can have them banded but they can still come back

Pixienott0005 · 18/04/2016 13:15

Get a piece of string tie it to the door and hemorrhoid and...pull, is the advice I got.

Seriously though I just used cold wipes etc but I have heard of the garlic thing too. It might work!

Katemax82 · 15/03/2025 16:36

Mine were u bearable with my last 3 pregnancies..go to the doctor. Mine gave me scheriproct ointment, uniroid hc suppositories and movicol. Take lots of warm baths and use the treatment hopefully it'll ease up a bit

My recent attack during pregnancy lasted about 2 weeks. I saw the doctor after 1 week

Mine is definitely thrombosed so I’m scared that means they won’t go … I just wanted hope that’s not the case . I’ve managed to push it back up but it does keep popping out after a while

What's high spectrum IBS C?

If that's irritable bowel syndrome (??), as mentioned above I got rid of IBS in one swoop (plus myriad other symptoms, including, and especially, piles) by avoiding wheat. Miracle!

IBS C is IBS with constipation.

Mine were severely thrombosed during the last week of pregnancy with my 2nd child, they were the size of a satsuma when I gave birth. They took 2 weeks to go away after birth

I actually opted for a cesarean with my little boy i had on monday purely to avoid these monstrous piles. I got them really bad when I was pregnant with my dd and she was in breech. They did and ECV and turned her but she ended up being a week overdue which is when the enormous thrombosed piles developed. I had them almost as bad but slightly less from 37 weeks with my 3rd child. Upon finding out my youngest was breech I refused an ecv and had a section and the only piles I had were around 33 weeks for about a fortnight but luckily the creams and suppositories got rib of them
