Seriously, I'm 36 weeks pregnant with DS2 and I can barely walk/sit down due to two piles. One small and soft, one huge and rock hard Blush
I've been using ice packs and witch hazel for two days to no avail, Anusol has also proved useless.
I had DH take a look and he just laughed and said I look like Rafiki back there Hmm
I'm at a total loss, I can't tell you how painful it is. It's actually making me feel sick. Has anyone tried anything that's really helped?

Placemarking to get DH to read later on. I never had a problem with piles, not even during pregnancy but poor old DH is suffering at the moment.

BoopTheSnoot · 14/04/2016 16:52

I've been using ice packs and sobbing. I've traded witch hazel gel for witch hazel liquid to some avail. However, results have been limited. I'll be glad when this hell is over.

Anusol contains a numbing agent. Keep the pessaries on the fridge, and see your GP asap.

EveryoneElsie · 14/04/2016 16:58

^in, not on.

kavvLar · 14/04/2016 17:06

Is it thrombosed, it sounds like it might be. Lidocaine anaesthetic cream on prescription numbs it but I'm not sure if you can have it whilst pregnant, worth asking GP though.

Popskipiekin · 14/04/2016 17:09

Try Germaloid cream or the ointment - get both, see which you prefer. Think I liked the cream but they're both good. Anusol was doing nothing for me post pregnancy - I was miserable - and Germaloid was magic. The Germaloid website says its spray isn't suitable during pregnancy, but the cream and ointment are. Seriously, give them a go.

BoopTheSnoot · 14/04/2016 20:25

I think Germaloids may be the way to go, I have tried Anusol but it didn't do much.
How can I tell if it's thrombosed? And if it is, should I be worried? Is it dangerous?

EddieStobbart · 14/04/2016 20:35

Thought I'd posted this already but no sign, must have been mistaken. Have recently acquired this. Subtle it is not but am very pleased so far.

Dontcallus · 14/04/2016 20:50

Anusol (my phone changes that to amusing Hmm) made mine throb. germaliod helped a lot. Also prep H natural I think it was called. You have my full sympathy.

Gurraun · 14/04/2016 20:58

You poor thing. I had 2 thrombosed piles at 38 weeks. The pain was like nothing on earth and no remedy (including lignocaine) touched it. My midwife sent me to day assessment and they performed a semi emergency section (was booked in for elcs anyhow) because a) the pain was unbearable; and b) they were concerned they might rupture and bleed significantly (especially if I went into labour). The relief was immediate although I did go a few days later to have them injected by a coli-rectal surgeon (the glamour)!

How can you tell if they are thrombosed? Rock hard, hot and excruciating. TMI but mine were external and my anus was contracting round them (if that makes sense) especially when I was dropping off to sleep. Wakes you up PDQ. I had to keep my bum tensed all the time and sat on a pressure pad that they give old folks in nursing homes.

Nearly 3 years on I'm broody for dc3 but reading this post makes me think again.
Good luck

BoopTheSnoot · 14/04/2016 21:03

I think at least one of them is thrombosed then, it is indeed rock hard and absolutely agonising. Sitting down, standing up, lying down....its relentless. Affecting sleep and making me feel sick with the pain.
I no longer care about subtlety, but I can't bear the thought of anyone, GP or otherwise, touching them. Not even because of the embarrassment, but because of the pain. As I've said, I never knew they could hurt so much. Everyone giggles about these things, but it's no joke. I am worried about them rupturing during labour though Blush

britespark1 · 14/04/2016 21:17

You have my sympathies. I suffered greatly after the birth of my second son and remember sitting in the bath in the early hours of the morning sobbing with the pain. Never knew something so 'daft' could hurt so much. Only a prescribed cream from the doctors made any difference whatsoever so please do go.

sonlypuppyfat · 14/04/2016 21:21

Your right only people who haven't had piles think they are funny. Worst pain I've ever had and I've broke my shoulder

Gurraun · 14/04/2016 21:28

Too true - I'd never had so much as a small pile before mine arrived with a bang and had definitely sniggered at piles sufferers before!

OP go and kick up a fuss. You cannot survive another 4 weeks like this.

Initially the GP fobbed me off but as my blood pressure rose and ds2's feral hb joined it they decided it was actually a bit of a worry. The obstetrician hummed and hahed and called down a cold-rectal surgeon who said - the only way to sort that is to remove the big hefty baby causing the problem.

I can only suggest making a nuisance of yourself and sobbing a lot (won't be hard) and if nothing else they may stick you in front of a coli-rectal bod. Poor, poor you 😥

Gurraun · 14/04/2016 21:29

Fetal not feral - it's only now he's feral!

dolkapots · 14/04/2016 21:39

My sphincter is spasming just reading this. I have had terrible piles problems, gone to A & E a few times, the pain is just horrendous. On my last visit the Dr was concerned because I was so pale (I was losing blood) and gave me Instillagel which was brilliant. I have tried the ice cube, toothpaste and even a soluble co codamol up the bum Blush

Go to A & E if it continues, the pain is unbelievable.

brrrr · 14/04/2016 22:08

Re garlic - I inserted a clove of garlic up the bum as a threadworm cure recently Blush and my bum just sort of expelled it. And it gave me garlic flavoured farts Grin Blush Hmm

bookbook · 14/04/2016 22:21

My DH suffers , and he finally got a prescription from the doctor for Proctofoam. He swears by it in his bad times, though hasn't needed it recently thank goodness.

dolkapots · 16/04/2016 09:17

brr I do believe that in order to maximize the healing qualities of garlic (when inserted anally) you should trim it into a slither, which not only makes it slimmer, but releases the juices and I will never look at garlic in the same way again.

septembersunshine · 16/04/2016 09:33

I'd go to the doctor. Tell him just to look because you can't bear anyone to touch them - surely this is serious and you are in more pain then you need to be in. There maybe something they can do/prescribe because it sounds like home remedies just won't solve this.

I have them too (only 20 weeks pg) but not all that bad and not hard. I really feel for you xx

wigglesrock · 16/04/2016 09:41

I had terrible piles at around the same time in my 3rd pregnancy. My midwife was sympathetic but no help, pharmacist did the best they could, used Anusol - helped but not enough. I rang my GP tearfully one morning, told him what was wrong, he was brilliant - I didn't have to see him, he prescribed me some ointment, and the relief after a few days was unbelievable. They didn't go away but I wasn't spending all my day & night in pain. Speak to your Dr.

Pastamancer · 16/04/2016 10:54

I've had piles since the latter stages of pregnancy with DD1 so about 4 years now. Never had any pain with them but wondered how to get rid of them

jesterkat · 16/04/2016 17:17

Try a bath with Epsom salts, it'll help soothe them and is great for itching. Safe to use externally in pregnant too. Couple of big handfuls in a not too hot bath. Recommend by my old school midwife and really helped. Boots normally have them in. X

TheDowagerCuntess · 16/04/2016 21:36

So all these remedies are just for soothing the pain. Is there are way to actually get rid of them, or do you need medical intervention for that?

sonlypuppyfat · 16/04/2016 22:18

You can have them banded or tied off
