To ask if 10 year old girls should be wearing 2- 3 inch stilettos

Just that really.

A friend of mine has posted photos on her fb of her DD trying on strappy sandals in a shop today and they are so high her feet are pointed right down.

Would you put these on your DD at that age? I feel quite uncomfortable with this because it seems that it's a bit too 'old' for a 10 year old but also wonder at the damage it could cause to growing feet.

Quite prepared to be told I am an old fuddy duddy and should 'get with the times' but I won't be buying my DD shoes like that any time soon!

NWIH would I let my daughter of that age wear the shoes you linked to.

Narp · 08/04/2016 19:56

Well now I've seen everything

Must be living in some sort of enclave. Never seen a child wearing anything with a heel above 1 cm round here

Brokenbiscuit · 08/04/2016 20:03

No, I have a dd that age and she would not be wearing anything like that. Having said that, she wouldn't want them in any case - she values her comfort. Smile

Point the mother towards Honey Boo-Boo.

Branleuse · 08/04/2016 20:12

i hate seeing young girls in heels. Im not even keen on them on adults unless they can walk in them really well, which most people cant, and just totter.

Lonecatwithkitten · 08/04/2016 20:22

DD has nothing bigger than a half inch chunky email. But can I say beware ballet flats they can do terrible damage to feet as they provide not proper support and lead to ligament damage. Two years it has taken to get DD's feet right after ballet flats cause ligament damage.

coffeeisnectar · 08/04/2016 20:35

Are ballet flats with no heels at all? DD's flat shoes have a tiny heel (less than 1/2 inch) but they are more party shoes than every day shoes.

At the moment I can't get her out of her winter boots, despite it being quite warm now. They are very comfy apparently (ankle type hush puppies) and she has so many sensory issues that getting anything on her that she's happy wearing is a major effort.

I have a wardrobe full of clothes she has never worn.

I hate young girls in high heels. I've let my 8 year old dd wear 1.5" heels to a wedding, they were off by the time the evening reception started in favor of trainers for dancing in.

My dsd had heels like those and higher from 6. I refused to let her wear them with us as they're harmful, look ridiculous on young kids and she couldn't walk in them, she looked like bambi on ice, as you'd expect in a child that young.

Unfortunately there are some bloody stupid parents that either don't know how damaging high heels are or don't care.

scrappydappydoo · 08/04/2016 20:50

Nope nope nope. I have a 10yr old. There are plenty of nice shoe styles to pick from before heels.
I find it depressing that when I take her school shoe shopping I have to specifically request no heels or they bring out a selection of completely inappropriate shoes for school!!??

Her feet are still growing so her parents are being totally irresponsible, never mind the sexualisation of young girls.

My DD is 10 and we giggle at the silly shoes with heels on.

noeffingidea · 08/04/2016 21:03

No, these are too high. A lot of adults would be uncomfortable in these.
I would say a low heel (maybe an inch or so) is fine for the odd occassion at that age (wedding, school disco, etc) but not those.

Vintage45 · 08/04/2016 21:05

YANBU.

RJnomore1 · 08/04/2016 21:07

My 11yo would LOVE those shoes.

She will not be getting a pair!

DontAskIDontKnow · 08/04/2016 22:07

No one should be wearing 2-3 inch heels. It's like spending most of your time walking down hill. Your body adapts leading to short muscles and tendons and terrible posture.

I am really dreading the point when my dds start thinking they should want these things. I tend to look for minimal shoes for them. Hopefully that will give them strong enough feet to support themselves (though walking on concrete a lot doesn't do them any favours). I might offer some ridiculous ones at 18, like a pp suggested.

Witchend · 08/04/2016 22:19

Definitely not.

However on mn if your boy shows any interest you should immediately by him the pinkest sparkliest pair you can find.

CheshireChat · 08/04/2016 22:20

I couldn't walk in those! And I felt very judgy when I saw a 5-6 year old in heeled boots as she couldn't walk in them at all.

Bluebolt · 08/04/2016 22:24

When my DD asked I googled pictures of Victoria Beckhams bunions. I couldn't understand her interest as at the time spent all her time running and by the state of her shoes in mud. She liked her Nike air max.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/04/2016 22:27

I tell ya....if shoes were transparent you wouldn't wear most of them.
Your feet all smooshed up like bankrobbers faces in a stocking.

But hey! Carry on. My job will be future proof!

pourmeanotherglass · 08/04/2016 22:34

I wouldnt wear those myself, they are pretty, but I just couldn't walk in them. My DDs and their friends (age 11-13) all wear jeans and converse out of school, I've never seen a pre-teen in anything like those.

Chickpeachick0 · 08/04/2016 22:36

One of my daughters favourite activities as a preschooler was brantano to try on shoes . She always loved the glitzy / sparkly higher the better - and she wasn't copying me! Over the years she has always had sensible school shoes but still loves a pair of glam high heeled shoes , always a pair in her stocking - but only for in the house ! her first big do last year , pair of heels and she looked beautiful elegant and unlike her mother could walk gracefully / dance in a pair of heels . Some girls like them .

Chickpeachick0 · 08/04/2016 22:37

Oh snd wears nikes/ converse most of time !

LifeofI · 08/04/2016 22:42

nobody should because kitten heels are disgusting
