to have a self-indulgent moan about pregnancy restrictions...

Have been a good girl and have given up nicotine, alcohol, soft cheese, cured meat, rare meat, sushi, anything spicy (heartburn) and have had my measly, annoying, pathetic NHS ration of four cups of tea.... (That would have basically been breakfast in the past).

I'm starving and trying not to snack so as not to increase BMI. Dinner will not be ready for another hour.

FOR FUCKS SAKE. WORST FRIDAY NIGHT IN HISTORY. WTAF CAN I HAVE????

I HATE EVERYONE.

Mainly because we haven't told people yet (12 weeks) so I can't moan at them and think poor DP has had enough.

(I don't hate the cat, the cat is cute)

ARSE.

Cornish as I understand the EU regs all fish that is designed to be sold as raw/lightly cooked has to be frozen before serving. This would def include sushi chains. Pasteurization also kills the listeria bug doesn't it? So as long as the cheese is made with pasteurised milk it should be ok.

But it totally depends on your level of risk aversion and worry. And if you decide you're not comfortable with the risk you're totally entitled to have a moan - I think people are just trying to be helpful and say there's lots of info out there to help you make up your own mind rather than relying on what you're told.

Except the listeria risk really isn't big at all. And where there is a risk, it doesn't appear to be from the things that are on the banned list. Looking at the data from 1999-2007 in England, 5 of the last 10 'clusters' of listeria cases were caused by hospital sandwiches, which have not been put on the banned list. One of the largest clusters, in 2000 (affecting almost 20 people) was caused by contaminated butter. In 2014, there were 6 cases in Scotland - of which two were sourced back to meat pies (and yet another sandwich). Listeria is notifiable so the data is available to look at if you're interested.

I dont understand why people follow nhs guidelines on safe sleeping etc but when pregnant ignore all of the advice its there for a reason.

MrsSparkles · 12/04/2016 07:44

I think the nhs problem is they can't prove it's safe, therefore the default positon is that it isn't safe. Same reason you can't take any drugs when you're pregnant. The guidance is there, but I think it's important to do your own research and make decisions based on that.

But then I'm not one to ever take guidance blindly - I like to make an informed decision.

Just checked the NHS website and saw that all prawns are OK. Had read somewhere that hot freshly cooked were fine but cooked then cooled eg for salads or sandwiches not OK. Fab, prawn sandwich for lunch today then!

Pollyputhtekettleon · 12/04/2016 09:30

Actually crazypetlady, I would be surprised to find too many people following the NHS guidelines on safe sleeping. None of my babies would accept lying on their back with feet at the end of the crib carefully covered by 1 cellular blanket that is nowhere near their face.....I managed to get them to sleep some of the time with some of those things in place but on my last two I've coslept like many other mums. I guess it's the brie eating of sleeping!

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 12/04/2016 09:37

Havent read most of the thread but brie and cambert etc over here is already pasturized so in theory is fine to eat as is. Also even though you have a cat, ive had cats all my life and eated blue steak all my life but i requested a blood test for toxoplasmosis which revealed that i had NEVER had it, so no antibodies. Just ask your GP/midwife to test. I was quite shocked tbh!
