to have a self-indulgent moan about pregnancy restrictions...

Pandora2016 · 08/04/2016 18:44

Have been a good girl and have given up nicotine, alcohol, soft cheese, cured meat, rare meat, sushi, anything spicy (heartburn) and have had my measly, annoying, pathetic NHS ration of four cups of tea.... (That would have basically been breakfast in the past).

I'm starving and trying not to snack so as not to increase BMI. Dinner will not be ready for another hour.

FOR FUCKS SAKE. WORST FRIDAY NIGHT IN HISTORY. WTAF CAN I HAVE????

I HATE EVERYONE.

Mainly because we haven't told people yet (12 weeks) so I can't moan at them and think poor DP has had enough.

(I don't hate the cat, the cat is cute)

ARSE.

3rd trimester I will have a few spritzers I did with my first.

Ughnotagain · 08/04/2016 20:37

29 this will probs out me if anyone I know in RL reads it (because EVERYONE knows about it, I was so cross)... But when I was pregnant and at a friend's Christmas party, someone tried to police me and stop me eating some ham. His pregnant fiancée was there and had some too, which he obviously didn't like, so tried to give me the old "ooh you shouldn't be eating that" and even got his phone out to try and look it up to prove his point. I just walked away with my ham. Idiot Angry

Caterina99 · 08/04/2016 20:45

I'm in the US. Their list is about 3 times as long as the UK, but slightly different, and total strangers come up to you in starbucks and say "I hope that's decaf".Angry I just used my own judgement. Mostly you are avoiding listeria, which is most common in things like salad - yet that's not on the banned list! Heating through meats and cheeses makes them safe by US standards, so that was good enough for me!

BlenheimBouquet · 08/04/2016 20:45

Fuck it, eat what you want.

Google the dietary restrictions in other countries. They're completely different, ergo, you may as well do what you like.

Pandora2016 · 08/04/2016 20:48

Ham???? But that's cooked meat!!!!

For fucks sake...

How the hell did the human race survive this long.... urgh...

I am pregnant and that salt and pepper bread mentioned upthread is epic.

If they said bacon was not allowed I think I would keel over its all I can face before mid day.

SlimCheesy · 08/04/2016 20:51

Sainsbury's own alcohol-free sparkling wine is very good, if people are wanting something wine-y.

SewSlapdash · 08/04/2016 20:52

Seriously dude, I'm on pg 2 and I'm not eating mussels or liver. That's about it. Occasional glass of wine, I don't overdose on caffeine anyway.

Sushi is absolutely FINE, except salmon at Yo Sushi, I specifically asked them last time, they don't freeze the salmon because it's all fresh and farmed in the UK. All the other kinds are fine and I usually major on the fried stuff anyway

SewSlapdash · 08/04/2016 20:52

There's actually more risk of listeria from bagged salad than from cold meats.

29redshoes · 08/04/2016 20:53

ughnotagain and caterina argh that is so annoying! Why do people think it is ok to do that to pregnant women? So rude!

notquitehuman · 08/04/2016 21:17

I feel for you. The lack of wine and strong coffee drove me insane when pregnant. However it is an excellent excuse for lots of Chinese food and choc ices.

Eat a snack! You don't want to get low blood sugar. Wink

Kafeeundkuchen · 08/04/2016 21:25

You can have stilton? Blue stilton? You have made my day!! Im
Missing slamming and chorizo sooooo much, I feel your pain OP. Ps what name OP do you want OP? I'm intrigued!

SockQueen · 08/04/2016 21:43

I recently went on a trip to France at 14/40. No smelly cheese, no wine, no paté, no rare steak - no fun! I did have some fondue though, figured it was probably ok as cooked.

I have to say I don't miss booze that much, my tastebuds have changed a bit so I can't imagine enjoying wine at the moment. Far more distressing is that tea now tastes gross.

LBOCS2 · 08/04/2016 21:48

Second pregnancy now. Basically I've just cut down on drinking to one or two glasses of wine a week in the second and third trimester.

Oh, but I've avoided bagged salad and Tesco butter ;)

Tessabelle74 · 08/04/2016 21:50

Swap to decaff tea, I have, I have a "real" cup to get me going in the morning then have the decaff for the rest of the day 👍

Kafeeundkuchen · 08/04/2016 22:29

*salami not slamming lol!!

Pollyputhtekettleon · 08/04/2016 22:46

I just had my third. And I ate everything except liver products. The chances are tinier than getting hit by a car but yet we still leave the house....its up to everyone to calculate the risk themselves.

guinnessgirl · 08/04/2016 23:11

I second what tessabelle said. If you find the right brand of decaf tea it's possible to get one that tastes just like the real thing (I can only buy Sainsbury's own brand fair trade decaf now as I love it so). In fact, I've stuck to drinking mainly decaf even though I'm no longer pg, as I've got so used to it!

allowlsthinkalot · 08/04/2016 23:23

You can eat soft cheese if it's pasteurised or cooked.

Julibelle · 09/04/2016 14:00

I'm 16 weeks just now and baffled by the restrictions in UK, had last DS in Zurich. So, I ignore the coffee/tea limit, and eat whatever my nausea will allow (currently large quantities of white toast and yogurt).

LBOCS2 · 09/04/2016 14:14

I followed the Finnish guidelines for liver products ;)

I have had a MASSIVE and distracting craving for pate this time around. It has been a problem.

VictoriaRoses · 09/04/2016 14:23

I think you shouldn't eat ham if it has been open in the fridge for a while? Fine if it is fresh. I lived on ham and cheese sandwiches for the first couple of months with my DT because everything else made me sick

Marmalade85 · 09/04/2016 14:26

I paid no attention and even drank moderate amounts of alcohol and my son was born healthy and is now a thriving 4 month old. No need to be a martyr.

WordGetsAround · 09/04/2016 14:38

Totally agree with a few of the other posters - everything is fine except liver products.
Precious pregnant woman do my head in.

Booboostwo · 09/04/2016 14:42

I've been through two pregnancies while in France and the list was similar if not identical to the UK recommendations. The food restrictions are very well known and pregnant women are reminded of them by all health care professionals. In addition waiters in restaurants were aware of the restrictions and when I was visibly pregnant would mention menu items I should not have or assured me they would ask the chef to be extra careful with washing the salad.
