Presiding over a government that is trying to spin doctors and teachers into militants ,

Supporting a chancellor that has failed to reduce the deficit by his own standards and has delivered two hated and u turning budgets in a row, over the death of the British Steel Industry, is attacking renewable energy in times of climate change, is taking support from the ill and disabled is and NOW he has admitted benefiting from TAX AVOIDANCE????!!!!
This is all wrong. How many more years of this?

I know it is a non-story that won't run

Maybe, maybe not.

However, I haven't felt a buzz like this since the expenses scandal broke. I suspect if there are any revelations about Labour and/or LibDem (both of them Grin) being equally dodgy, the public sentiment of "them and us" will resurface.

I think whatever anyones take on this, it's hard to argue that it hasn't done the image of politics - which a certain D. Cameron Esq. pledged to "clean up" any good at all. Certainly any cynicism by non-voters - particularly the young - seems justified.

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 16:56

stinky what you are forgetting is the press is not all powerful. Most political discourse is now done online driven by people like us, choosing the issues of the day.
It wasn't the press who leaked the Panama Files was it?

BobandKate0H · 08/04/2016 17:02

candykane25 - i agree with you the ESA for people with disabilities should be continued ,but there may be cases where the ramp access has already being installed and they don't need the extra payment to pay for it again, the problem is people get used to a fixed amount - its not an easy policy to implement fairly.
Also hate the bedroom tax .
And for the record,i am not a tory.
I was silly enough to vote liberal last time and look how nick clegg turned out to be a gravy train muppet .

LurkingHusband · 08/04/2016 17:07

It wasn't the press who leaked the Panama Files was it?

er, it was, actually Hmm

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 17:09

Oh dear bob do you really believe that?
Aids and adaptions such as ramp access is not what ESA is for.
You might need to read up quite a bit more about different benefits, why they are paid and who is eligible before you comment.
I am disabled and do need ramp access.

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 17:10

Lurking they reported it. The leak was acquired.

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 17:10

But correct me if I've got that wrong Lurking, sorry :)

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 17:12

Sorry bob Don't need ramp access I meant to type.

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:15

It wasn't the press who leaked the Panama Files was it?

erm yes they did - the press have been sitting on it for a year after being given it from a hacker.

candykane25 · 08/04/2016 17:16

That's what've mean. The hacker acquired it.
Hackers have more power than the press.
So saying its a non story because the press say so isn't as applicable.

ghostyslovesheep · 08/04/2016 17:20

I do love the panic induced shouting of 'but but but erm leftie comdeians ...' gosh they are running scared

leftie comedians are not elected so really it's not relevant

it doesn't matter how many times you point the other way and shout 'squirrel' you will eventually need to respond to the fact that your party leader avoided paying tax and lied about it initially

we are certainly NOT all in this together now are we?

ghostyslovesheep · 08/04/2016 17:21

sorry that should be 'benefited from tax avoidance and lied about it'

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:21

Well we don't know if it was hackers or someone who worked for the company who leaked the data, or at least I've not read anything about that.

But no I don't think hackers have more power than the press - look at Snowden, he's holed up in Russia and will be on the run for the rest of his life And has little contact with most of his old life - no that's not my idea of power.

LurkingHusband · 08/04/2016 17:21

candykane25

Fair point. It was hacked, then leaked.

Given the lack of US names, it's pretty obvious who has pre-vetted this data ... which raises the question why were they happy to hang Cameron out to dry ?

For those of you who have a nasty vivid imagination, it's fun to think of all the Great and Good who must be (as my Dad would say) "sitting on the toilet" wondering what else is in these documents.

To quote BTO you ain't seen nothing yet

LurkingHusband · 08/04/2016 17:22

Well we don't know if it was hackers or someone who worked for the company who leaked the data, or at least I've not read anything about that.

2.6 TB of data. Even using my broadband that would take a few hours .....

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:24

To the people who think Cameron has avoided tax - can you tell me what tax he has avoided paying please?

GraysAnalogy · 08/04/2016 17:25

If the intention wasn't to avoid tax why would it be sodding hidden in Panama Confused

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:25

Lurking yes I know how much data it was and given I work in IT I am more than capable of knowing how long it would take to collect that amount of data over any number of different methods. Sounds more like an inside job than anything else especially given the documents go back more than 40 years.

Valentine2 · 08/04/2016 17:26

Why are so many people trying to derail this thread? Question is whether he should resign or not, depending on when there he did it or he didn't .
Yes he should resign because he did it.
All those posters trying to raise points irrelevant to this central issue, WHAT on earth are you on about, eh?

DontcarehowIwantitnow · 08/04/2016 17:27

leftie comedians are not elected so really it's not relevant

Leftie MPs are however. Are the 'very wealthy' amongst them completely clear? As some have said before some of the shadow cabinet are very very wealthy.

How many have then have come out and said how awful it is? Deafening by their silence.

Oh and I am a Labour voter before anyone starts throwing 'tory' about.

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:28

If the intention wasn't to avoid tax why would it be sodding hidden in Panama

To be used to buy shares in companies that traded in dollars - nothing to do with avoiding tax.

ghostyslovesheep · 08/04/2016 17:29

if they are avoiding tax then no they are not 'completely clear' but I haven't heard of any saying on record that they have never benefited from tax avoidance schemes and then have to retract that 24 hours later

This is about the PM of the country telling porkies Grin

DontcarehowIwantitnow · 08/04/2016 17:34

It is about his 'tax avoidance' that is what people are also upset about. Not paying full tax.

Do you really think if he had from day 1 come out and said my family have been involved in tax avoidance people would have been ok with that? Of course they wouldn't.

I think all MPs should declare all tax schemes etc they are in. We would at least then know.

I would imagine some people would be quite shocked.

Only way is to close all loopholes.

Rainbunny · 08/04/2016 17:40

It makes me sad that so many people are just shrugging this off. Are we so jaded and cynical about the behaviour of government and business elites that it's too much effort to hold them accountable now? It may seem like a small issue but I do believe that Cameron should resign and an investigation launched into MP's investments.

peggyundercrackers · 08/04/2016 17:42

Rain what is there to hold them to account for? No law has been broken.
