To not want to go to Las Vegas?

H and I are hoping to get away next year, just the two of us. I'm not massively well travelled, he is.

He really wants to go to Vegas and I just don't see the appeal. I don't like casinos. I like beaches and sightseeing and shopping. Would love to visit Venice, Portugal, Copenhagen but nothing about Vegas exites me.

AIBU or a bit daft?

WemustSurelyBeLearning Not all the hotels have the rooms far away from the casino - we stayed at the Venetian when we got married and the lifts to the rooms are almost right next to the casino. The Signature at the MGM are far away and so are some of the towers at Caesars.

Bearbehind, I wasn't meaning the coins but the slots themselves are pretty noisy, with music, as you say, plus the noise of the people playing them, and some of the slots still have the handles that you pull.

Why not do a USA road trip and spend a few days in Vegas? Doing Southern California and the Grand Canyon too. In Vegas see a show, sunbathe, eat good food, admire the fountains. I am sure you would enjoy a few days there.

I've been to Vegas, it was weird, fun in a odd way, crazy and big, I couldn't really wrap my head around such a place actually existing. But it was also plastic and fake and while I'm glad I've seen it I'd never go back not my idea of fun at all.

When we arrived (Saturday night) I just hated it. We had to wait ages to cross the road and it just felt edgy. However, we went to the Irish pub inside New York New York and had a few expensive pints. After that it seemed much better. We stayed in the Platinum Hotel which is smoke free and doesn't have a casino. We wondered round the casinos but didn't know what we were doing so didn't bet. I enjoyed the fountains, the volcano, the buffets, the flamingoes, the people dressed up, the golden nugget and the lights on the ceiling, the roller coaster and the lovely dry hot weather. We did an amazing day trip to the Grand Canyon. It's a long way to go for somewhere you're not fussed about, but we decided to go for a few days as part of a bigger trip to the states. After a shaky start I have fond memories of our few days there and would even visit again in maybe 10 years or so.
