To put a bin next to the toilet.

This makes me irrationally angry: My job involves going to people's houses. Normally I will be with them between a and 4 hours, so occasionally I will have to use their toilet.
Today I'm on my period and have quite heavy flow. I was on a longer job (3hrs) and bled through my tampon. I discovered that there was no von in the bathroom. Just to be clear. I try to avoid having to change my tampon in client's houses by changing in public loos, McDonald's or Starbucks and carry scented plastic bags with me tobwrap the offender in when I have to do it at someone's house.
So, anyway, i was in the very awkward position of having a soaked tampon and no way of getting rid of it. I was in charge of a very young child - so no way of nipping out to the bins or a pub (to use the loo) and ended up stemming the flow with toilet paper and going back to working with their dc for another hour.
I will not flush a tampon down the loo because I don't want to block the clients toilet.

So, aibu to ask you all to provide a bin for female visitors?

Exactly ducky, how i got into all this "bloody" bollocks in the first place is telling. I need to get a damn life! Grin

duckyneedsaclean · 06/04/2016 23:58

I quote "You can simply flush or throw all Tampax Tampon away."

itsbetterthanabox · 07/04/2016 00:00

It's completely ridiculous that people are telling the op she shouldn't bin it.
If these people hire people to work for them then they have accept that women have periods. Wrap the Tampon in tissue then bag it in your nappy sack and put it in the kitchen bin. No one goes through the kitchen bin. They won't be touching anything! It'll go out with normal waste.
But yes everyone should have a bathroom bin.

LeaLeander · 07/04/2016 00:00

Yeah because what does Tampax care? Ask the people who operate public sewage and water systems. Ask the people who monitor the pollution in rivers and oceans. They'll tell a different take about bathroom waste and what is/is not flushable.

That anyone would be so thick is nearly unimaginable.

RudeElf · 07/04/2016 00:01

You can simply flush or throw all Tampax Tampon away.

Yeah, you can. Doesnt mean they wont block your pipes and create a lovely shit soup in your garden.

Primaryteach87 · 07/04/2016 00:03

Re: flushing- It would cause our pies to get blocked and we'd need to get the chap with rods out. This happened when a lodger flushed a tampon despite being asked not to. I actually think this would be way more embarrassed (men hoiking it out of the blocked drains!!) than putting it in a bin.

Primaryteach87 · 07/04/2016 00:04

Pipes, not pies!

someonestolemynick · 07/04/2016 00:04

For anyone who thinks it's ok to flush away a tampon, please read it this link:

fusion.net/story/108523/no-you-cant-flush-tampons/

Sorry, don't know how to make it clicky

Tampax are flushable.
So are babywipes.
So are microbeads.
So are nappies if you give them a poke with the loo brush.

Doesn't mean that flushing them is a good thing, just means you can get them down a drain.

Vintage45 · 07/04/2016 00:05

My friends brother works in the sewers and has found a diamond ring or two, he moans about the size of the rats now and again but he's never moaned about a tampax or two Grin

notamummy10 · 07/04/2016 00:06

Only the Tampax with the cardboard packaging can be flushed! But I wouldn't recommend flushing them down the toilet anyway.

I've never come across a bathroom without a little bin in it; so YANBU. Also I don't understand why people have suggested putting the used tampon in your bag (obviously wrapped up and placed into a scented bag), would you want to walk around with a bloody tampon in your bag?

duckyneedsaclean · 07/04/2016 00:09

A Tampon will not swell to a large enough size to block a drain. A nappy, a pad, congealed fat, baby wipes could block a drain. A Tampon, not so much.

Just to clarify, I was quoting from the tampax website earlier.

Vintage45 · 07/04/2016 00:10

What are microbeads, heard of all the rest though. As usual someone has to be totally over the top, will now dream of poking a damn nappy down there Grin

someonestolemynick · 07/04/2016 00:11

And another link mentioning tampax, flushing them is really not a great thing to do:

And with regards the op, I'd definitely flush it rather than stuff some tissue in my drawers.

RudeElf · 07/04/2016 00:11

Do you only use one during your period?

Pipbin · 07/04/2016 00:13

One tampon won't block a drain, but a build up of them will.
Even if they don't block the drain then they still shouldn't be in the sewage system as they either fuck things up further down or they end up on the beaches.

Vintage45 · 07/04/2016 00:13

I do tend to use them when I have a cold Rude or is that not acceptable? Im joking of course in case people start telling me how dangerous that is!

duckyneedsaclean · 07/04/2016 00:14

No dear. But there's generally a few hours between changes, and the other one is long gone.

Pipbin · 07/04/2016 00:15

What are microbeads
Microbeads are tiny plastic beads that you get in some scrubs and washes. They are extremely harmful to marine life and are now illegal in some countries.

someonestolemynick · 07/04/2016 00:16

Ducky, i googled flushing tampons and tampa. Even on their website that day that flushing frequently "may cause blockage in a septic tank".

I'd rather have tissues in my drawers, than contribute to tampon blogs that some poor soul will have to fix. Much easier for someone ( in 99% of the cases me) take a bin bag with my tampon in outside.

OP posts:
Pipbin · 07/04/2016 00:17

the other one is long gone.
It's not gone that far.

RudeElf · 07/04/2016 00:18

Long gone from your line of vision. You have no idea how far it has gotten on its journey. Maybe its caught up with a few mates from the neighbours houses and theyre loitering at one of the junctions.

Typical "out of sight, out of mind" attitude. If its not a problem to you its not a problem Hmm

someonestolemynick · 07/04/2016 00:21

Rudeelf, Grin totally agree with your last post.
