Sorry, I know this should be added to FB shite but I couldn't find a recent thread.

Scrolling down FB I came across these very helpful 'period boxes'. You can even subscribe and get them sent to your work Confused.

Now AIBU or is there actually a market for this?

Blokes don't need to know the ins & outs (as it were)
They just need to bring chocolate. And then leave...

hollinhurst84 · 04/04/2016 01:10

I saw the vibrating tampon on Twitter for April fools Grin

Hamiltoes · 04/04/2016 01:13

I just went on the site because I was thinking surely they haven't created a vibrating tampon Shock and then realised what day it was posted. Get caught out every blooming year

cakedup · 04/04/2016 01:21

ffs Blush

hollinhurst84 · 04/04/2016 02:23

I just like the beauty bits. And my local supermarket doesn't stock lillets with applicators Angry and I can't use tampax due to the lengthways expansion thing they do

I'm pretty sure they're not designed as a replacement for shopping, like you're not supposed to leave the house during your period Grin they're not for me but no big deal- I can't believe people have such strong feelings about it really.

MrsJayy · 04/04/2016 08:48

Im not misunderstanding on purpose its a treat once a month its just so meh. I was looking at what other subscription boxes there was 1 called toastie in the postie Grin

TeaOnEverest · 04/04/2016 09:15

OMG you can get stick on heatpads? Tell me more. I need to know! Like, before next week?

I have horrendous periods, so that box just looks full of flimsy rubbish. I'd bleed through the lot in minutes

Unfortunately I have a seige mentality when it comes to my period. Because otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to leave the house

Lots of strong drugs, postpartum pads, hot water bottle x 2...

MrsJayy · 04/04/2016 09:19

The heat pads are called thermacare its a wrap around thing you get 2 in a box q

TeaOnEverest · 04/04/2016 09:24

Thank you so much! Another weapon in the arsenal of trying to live normally whilst flooding and puking every month..

MrsJayy · 04/04/2016 09:29

Its such a delight eh.i went to the chemist for the other ones i normally get but The woman serving said those were better £5.99 though so a bit pricier

SoupDragon · 04/04/2016 10:04

I'm not convinced anything to do with periods can be considered a "treat"!

MrsJayy · 04/04/2016 10:10

Nope me either

onecrazycook · 04/04/2016 12:08

I promise you now, if my other half brought me home a period box I'd need some help moving the patio slabs soon after so that I could hide the body

birdbrain21 · 04/04/2016 12:17

Hmm I'm a bit embarrassed to say I quite like the idea Blush they need a bit of tweaking as I have heavy periods and get through a lot of big pads but although I'm perfectly capable of going to buy it myself I'm a proper moody git when I'm on my period and I love getting parcels so it would actually cheer me up a bit to receive it and would stop me having to dash out at an inconvenient time to buy pads. It does need a lot of tweaking of what is in it. Also my mum was $#@* at the whole teenage bit I only knew about periods because a teacher gave us all a chat in year 6 so would have loved something like this when I first started as my dad didn't know what to get and my mum just wouldnt discuss it Confused

TheFlyingFauxPas · 04/04/2016 13:43

I suppose it's a nice gimmick - similar to Graze, wine per month etc. No way I'd buy. I'd be bound to miss the postman and have to trudge down to the bloody sorting office which if timed wrong will only ENRAGE me more!! Besides. I'd want a wacking great rump steak in mine Grin

Fabellini · 06/04/2016 17:42

I signed up for one of these boxes for dps teenage daughter. It's not that one though. You can choose the products, and the quantity, and there are no extras like chocolate, or beauty products.
Dps daughter lives with him, they stay quite rurally, and the box is delivered every second month. She was so glad as it means she doesn't need to asked her dad to get stuff for her, (she gets very embarrassed about things like that, although dp wouldn't turn a hair), it's delivered in a plain, flat box that fits through the letter box, so it doesn't matter if there's no one in, and she shouldn't be caught short if her still slightly unreliable period arrives when she isn't expecting it.
I can totally get why posters here are a bit Hmm about it, but I also totally get why in some cases they can be very useful - if done well.

CrieffBobsledTeam · 29/04/2016 10:33

I read this thread the other week when it was new and sort of agreed with the OP but I'm coming back now to say why I've changed my mind.
DD started periods recently and quite quickly worked through the sample stuff she got a few years ago. We talked about what she wanted to get next and settled on Natracare (she thought reusables would be too tricky at school but she was concerned about the landfill/decomposing aspect of most disposable pads so it seemed like a good compromise). They don't sell them round here so I had to order them online and, having bought the first lot, I happened upon an advert for Sanitary Owl where the cost per pad is about 10p less than I paid so well worth it, even with the addition of a little chocolate bar for a treat it's still cheaper. It's set up to come every 4 weeks (although I can adjust that if nec) so she won't have to remember to stock up and I won't have to hassle her to find out what she needs.

I can see it's not for everyone but I think for young girls who can feel a bit awkward around the whole thing it can be ideal. As Fabellini says they come in a plain box so siblings, dads or anyone they don't want to see won't know what it is (DH is very chilled about it all but DD still prefers only to discuss it with me).

CrieffBobsledTeam · 29/04/2016 10:42

Oh btw you can also add most of the things people have mentioned on here - heat packs, ibuprofen, mooncup and reusable pads (Ecofemme). They have knickers too but they're expensive as they're those backup ones for people concerned their protection might let them down.
